I left the charismatic church in 2017 and I cannot even bring myself to go to any church again. I don’t trust any of the leaders anywhere. I spent a couple of years healing, and took a deep dive into the history and the teachers, and where everything was coming from. I still have faith in God, but I am a deep truth seeker at heart. I can’t handle the institutionalization of people.

Hey folks I have been OUT OF CHURCH for 15 yrs. or so.
6 churches shunned and in essence ejected me.
But this was because God used me like a scalpel just by being friends and being a TRUTH SPEAKER…I did not realize
that what I spoke truth about cut deeply to the heart of people’s lies and sins.
This is totally unintended nor was I aware myself.
      BUT I LEARNED.
I love Jesus and His body and the Trinity as that is MY TRUE LIFE.
But my family history IS THIS CRAPPY BUNCH OF LIES.
We are all suffering whether we KNOW IT OR NOT!!!
Bless you. I hope you find a
port love and fellowship in this storm of lies and arrogance.

This interview was so necessary. I’d not heard of the Roy’s Report before the Bickle story was published last Fall. My knee jerk reaction at that time was that the same group that is funding Christianity Today was behind this story. Why else would a Jane Doe come forward to tell a 25 year old story about a leader of an international prayer movement-during a time of political upheaval? I have to admit that before this interview I did believe the stories coming out of the Roy’s Report were true. But I thought the point behind them was to ultimately bring down the church. Hearing Julie’s heart lets us know that her hope is to bring these things to light as a saving grace. Maybe this way we may be given opportunity to ‘flip the tables of the money changers’ and wake up the church before it’s too late.

Great Interview! Julie Roys is a hero for the work she has done. She is incredibly brave. I have really appreciated the quality of investigative journalism her team puts out. I really like the "cross-pollination" that takes place when individuals from one stream of Christianity (Charismatic/Pentecostal) take time to listen to and learn from people from other streams (traditional Evangelicals). I was surprised when someone from the Charismatic/Pentecostal stream (on a different video than yours today) mentioned Julie Roys and had never heard of Moody Bible Institute (Ms. Roys used to work for Moody). In like fashion, I was surprised when close family members who are prayerful Chrisitians had never heard of IHOP or 24/7 houses of prayer. It's so nice to see people discussing and learning from one another. I think the Christian world needs more of this. (There are some generational differences here and I like that, too.)

Oh absolutely, a victim can have a hundred reasons not to come forward. Not only is it the shame, the dragging through the mud. Abuse creates mental and physical illnesses. You have to have a great amount of strength to come forward. Not to mention the threat of loosing carriers, family and friends if they come forward. Many live in survival mode because their daily performance depends heavily on it. Many are living in the poverty cycle without the finances or any type of support as a result of the abuse. This is not spoken about or comprehended very much in these spaces. I think people have the idea that victims somehow have the support and resources. The reality is 80 percent of us don't. You aren't looking at middle to upper class citizens here. You are looking at those in the gutter, on welfare, etc. I don't think the church is ready to embrace this class of individuals.

I’m not a Christian anymore but when I was my church followed a lot of IHOP’s teachings and Misty was such an inspiration for our worship. My pastor and worship leader were and still are good people but there’s a lot in the church that caused me to no longer believe. Even 10 years after leaving, IHOP and Misty held a special place in my heart. Her music still touches me even if I don’t believe the message. To see what’s going on now makes me very sad to see bc I know the impact it is most likely having on true believers who are good people. I’m glad there are people who are standing up for the victims. It’s not a liberal or conservative thing and to make it that causes the church’s witness to be tainted. I know stating that im no longer Christian may cause people to want to preach at me or pray for me. I would prefer if you didn’t. However, I just wanted to let you know that as a non believer I feel saddened for those who still believe and are having to deal with this scandal.

I’ve been a Christian for 60 years this year. Sadly, I can look back now at so many instances where this kind of scandal has been present. The whole; ‘Touch not God’s anointed’ line has been very familiar to me, because of my upbringing in a Word of Faith church, but I have long since learned how totally at odds with the scriptural meaning behind that phrase as it is found in scripture. The first time it shows up in scripture is in David’s Psalm 105:15 (which is recorded in 1 Chronicles 16:22) and it’s instructive to read this, in context, very carefully:-
Psalms 105:7-16 - New International Version (1984) (US)
    7. He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. 8. He remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded, for a thousand generations, 9. the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac. 10. He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant: 11. "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit." 12. When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it, 13. they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. 14. He allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings: 15. "Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm." 16. He called down famine on the land and destroyed all their supplies of food;
Something not so well understood about the incident with Balaam is that at the time, God was not happy with His people, but when Balaam tried to curse the Israelites, God would not allow him to do that. David’s words here in v.14 refer to this. God may well have something against His chosen people, but HE will deal with it and His attitude is the same as any parent; They are MY children and I will deal with their disobedience, NOT you. You don’t have the right to address this.
David referred to this principle when his men urged him to take advantage of Saul in the cave, in 1 Samuel 24, when he said that he wouldn’t raise his hand against the Lord’s anointed. The same principle as we find in his recounting the history of Israel, when God would not allow people to curse His people. Saul had angered God to the point where God had said He would give the kingdom to David, but David knew that he had to trust the Lord to deal with Saul and not take matters into his own hands.
HOWEVER! David didn’t keep silent about Saul’s sins. He didn’t do Saul any physical harm, but he did call Saul out publicly, revealing his sinful behaviour to all who were nearby, so those who quote this as some kind of proof that we must not SAY anything against the Lord’s anointed are totally wrong. Speaking against sinful behaviour is perfectly acceptable. As long as this is not a false accusation. Whether or not this is the case, MUST be evaluated by weighing the evidence we have to hand against the scriptures.
This is a hard subject to deal with and doing so in a scriptural way is not ever easy. We look at the teaching of Jesus in Matthew 18 about how to deal with a person who sins against another and we leap to make that the overriding rule on how to deal with ALL sinful behaviour in the Church. This is not valid, because it’s clear from th etext that apart from God, only two people know about the sin being mentioned; the one sinned against and the one who caused the offence. Jesus’s words tell us that we should try to preserve the secrecy by just the one going to the other first. It’s only after the offender rejects this approach that the victim is told to take a witness, and so on. However, there are instances where even this process is not appropriate. For example, what do we do when an adult who is not a parent of the child, sins against a child? Would it be appropriate for a child to be forced to confront this adult in a one on one situation? I don’t believe so, because I understand from scripture that a child is under the protection of their parents, and that in such cases, the parents must be the ones who confront the offending adult. How do we then deal with situations where a man who’s been using his (supposed) authority to exercise control over another person to the point where they have become sexual victims? I don’t for a second believe that the LORD requires that the tenets of Matthew 18 be used to muzzle victims of this horrible sort of abuse.
One more thing to be aware of; Jesus said that we would know false prophets by their fruits and it’s clear that anyone claiming to be a prophet (or even just a Christian) who behaves in such a way as to exercise control over someone else, to the point where they are abusing them, is NOT a brither in Christ and certainly NOT a Prophet of God. Paul told the Corinthians to cast the young man out of the church. I don’t see any biblical reason why church leaders should be treated any differently. DO we seek to resotire them to a right relationship with the LORD? ABSOLUTELY! Do we restore them to a position in ministry? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

The part about we like narcissistic leaders cause we want to be part of something big.. right on. Exactly along the lines of what I’ve been thinking. Even the maga church scene, we want to be represented by a “pretty and put together” ministry. We’re so shallow 😔 but we’re learning. I think church looks like home churches in the next 10 to 20 years

We were part of an international ministry and one of our fellow missionaries was found to have been abusing young children. The leadership of the ministry sent a Christian psychologist to help the staff deal with the fallout. We had him over for dinner and the question I asked him was: I understand that Christians can fall into sin. But how is it that a Christian can scheme and plan and manipulate to be able to 'have his way' with vulnerable victims? His answer surprised me. He told us that in his experience these are not Christians. Instead they are people who seek out professions where they have access.

one reason i think people are drawn toward the narc personality is we like to be entertained. and narcissists are often talented entertaining charismatic in the personality meaning of it. we are entertained in every part of our lives. screens every where. and i think part of it is the narcissist will gladly take over and let everyone sit back and let them be in charge. the audience isn't responsible to lead or think or question anything. narcissists also seem very capable of being in charge, even if they're faking it. very complex.

Julie is such a blessing to the body of Christ. Thank you for all you do. I do church at home teaching my wife and daughters b/c I refuse to subject my family to the nonsense in the American church. After leaving my first church, because of cult like tendencies, I looked for a solid church for 15 years and finally just gave up. Too much false doctrine and cultish tendencies in every church I tried. The church is supposed to be nameless and faceless as far as the leaders are concerned. Our face and name does not matter. There is only one name, His name, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I very much appreciated Julies talk with you. It is easy to see the thr level of concern she has been bringing to her reporting. The world we are living in has been ravged by sin and phony life. Many times people act as if everything is okay. The genuine truth is we need Jesus love and thr holy spirit presence and guidance not just every minute but every second to get us all thru this earthly exsistance.
We are told Truth shall set us free because it is biblical. A lot of the corruption of thr world is being exposed. The good thing is Jesus is bringing drastic changes to the world never seen before.
I love your reporters viewpoint it is truly one of a servant mentality.

@@otherworld11 Well, I'm from a mainline denomination, so I didn't grow up in the evangelical tradition. Forgiveness of sin (assuming it's authentic) does not assure someone of a position in church leadership, fame, fortune ,or power. I went to church the other day. I said the formal prayers we use for forgiveness of sin. I meant the words I said. The forgiveness I sought deals with my salvation; it does not in isolation qualify me for a job , or a leadership position in my church. I'm not mechanically inclined, so I'm not suited for a job as a mechanic. I don't apply for jobs that require those skills. I'm speaking in general terms not about any specific person or case when I say forgiveness of sin doesn't assure anyone in leadership positions that they will or won't keep their jobs. My faith doesn't assure me of a job. I personally think the speakers are really talking about a culture of entitlement. (whether they intended to do that or not)

The Church is not supposed to be a vehicle for defending or opposing partisan ideologies. (or gaining political power) People of faith have always participated in politics as citizens of countries. A country is not a church.

Thanks for this much needed conversation. I am completely sympathetic for all of the victims. I pray that The Lord heals them, their lives, and their families. On the other side, I wonder how many in the congregations seriously pray for their pastors as opposed to setting them on pedestals as superheroes who need no help? Why do people gravitate towards these kind of leaders? I believe that many of us have lived vicariously and find our identity through them. Jesus calls all believers, sons, kings and priests. The five-fold ministry was meant to be temporary with the ultimate goal of us knowing The Lord even as we are known. The devil knows that if he smites the shepherds he will be able to scatter the sheep. Do we also heed Paul's admonition to those of us who are spiritual to restore those taken in a fall in a spirit of meekness, considering ourselves? Lastly, where are checks and balances way beforehand protocols for counseling. Informing the congregations of those protocols and hiring pastors with the stipulation of accountability reporting on a regular basis. I'm compassionate and truly sympathetic towards all victims without exception. I also wonder if Jesus loves the abuser and if there is help, redemption for them as well? from a former, recovered, healed victim of childhood molestation.

Paul Washer has an excellent segment on the modern church where he compares the church to a simple, pure, elegant bride of a good king. And while the king is gone, he asks His people to protect his bride. Then the people decide in order to bring in more support, they will “dress up” the bride to make her more attractive to everyone. And she ends up attracting the world because she appeals to their carnal desires. And basically, when the king comes back, he’s going to be more angry at the people who perverted his bride than those who always rejected her.

Bless you precious young couple. Im sitting here watching this praying with tears to God to protect your family from any attacks that can come to those who dare to stand up and cry out for justice.
Im going thru exposing a so called pastors controlling and raging abuses over senior women he has housed in a resident "discipling" program. He has gone off the deep end, confronted by his own board comprised of 2 other "pastors" who exposed him and told him to step down, he refused. Donor churches lead pastors confronted this man too, privately, but have failed to speak out publicly or report him to authorities, leaving that for just one woman whose a certified advocate and then myself reporting to Adult Protective Services. No male leadershio is stepping up to protect these women and this mans wife who lived under his severe control and rages for 4 years. He is a true Covert Narcissist...everything revolves around him and for him.
They have reported him for misappropriation of funds, but wont report him for his verbal abuse and use of control to keep these women compliant to this mans orders they have to be in his church every Sunday, even when sick. He forced 3 women last Sunday to get into church, one was sick, the other was having a migraine and he told her a migraine shouldnt keep you from being in church. He told the others they didnt have reason to not be there...all to listen to him teaching his heretical Preterist theology.
He is reprehensible telling all he is right they are wrong and he owns everything and can basicly do what he wants unhindered.
Im in tears over all this injustice from him and lack of TRUE Godly leaders. Im doing what I can to advocate for them
