Tasmania, hills, mounrains, snow and ice that can kill you over night if you don't know what you're doing. Massive natural wild forests also that are of the oldest in the world. It's kinda a mix of the most dangerous parts of California, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, Upstate New York, and Alaska all in one depending on what time of year it is... and now with climate change there's likely to be wild fires, or you might die of heat stress in the middle of nowhere, lost in some of the biggest national parks in the world.
And deapite its small size the population of Tasmania today is only 500thousand total so the population density is really low and if you get lost in the wild there the chances without a locator beacon that you will ever be found alive again are practically zero.
Netflix has a documentary called "Unlocked: A Jail Experiment" where prisoners have doors unlocked 24/7 for 6 weeks. Would be a great series to do a reaction too!

Crazy story, another great video larry, as an Australian I can attest to the terrain here, it's not easy. I've learnt that every flag in the world is covered in a little blood, there has been conflict in the history of every country.
If your interested in prison escapes, look into Captain Moondyne from western Australia, one of the few repeat escapees of freo prison.

“Every flag in the world is covered in a little blood.” I like that quote a lot, it’s so very true no matter how much anyone wants to think their history is free of the “bad stuff” like war and basically conquering (wiping them out, either completely or until they surrender/meet their demands etc) weaker groups of inhabitants.
A photo of some Native Americans flipping the bird to a landscape in the US saying something like “F this country it’s all stolen land” went viral recently. Obviously most of the comments were silly arguing, but some were really good discussion that was informative. Talking about what you just said…even a ton (vast majority, I’d say all of the ones that were around a long time and powerful in terms of resources but I don’t know enough to say ALL) of the tribes who were first in the US wiped out other tribes in super savage manners.
All land was once without any human beings on it, and the first humans who arrived and settled there were basically never the ones who ended up being there for good…and usually there were numerous different groups that had power over that land throughout history.
@@BOnYTB exactly, it's the reason why I've never liked the term indigenous, there is no place on earth that the humans truly owns, there is no land that the humans only evolved or if you are religious then we were created and placed on the land. This earth was never ours and we shouldn't ever claim it is, we live on it, not own it.

Larry the snake that is mentioned at @28:58 to bit one of the escapees is a Tiger Snake native to the Australia including the Australian state of Tasmina and the coastal islands of southern Australia. The venom is very toxic and also this snake species is an endangered species.
There is one point in the video where it is muted but I thought my headphones turned Bluetooth on and coming from there but it's just the video.
We thought we took it out.

This one really confused me as they weren't out at sea or away from food for that long. t was only like 30 days. That was some crazy stuff.

I have only read one set of memoirs by a former prisoner that name all of the names and spill all of the details, and those were the memoirs of Mark Brandon Read, or Chopper to the publicity circuit. Chopper also had at least twenty less IQ points than you, Larry, and even after being let out of prison and settling into a quiet life, he had far less impulse control. One television appearance he had, he was left in the green room on his own, drank everything in the bar fridge, and walked onto the stage utterly blootered. He read out one poem he wrote. "Ziggy was a drug fixer, he got laid to rest in a pink cement mixer", then Chopper started laughing and saying "bastard kept trying to climb back out". The host called it damned good television and said "fukk them if they cannot take a joke", about the producers.
Watching from a distance, Asstralian not-commercial television was once so much better than the commercial channels. Conservatism kills everything it touches.

Hi Jacob, that was us. The scheduling was clitching. Every time we tried to schedule for members it would reschedule the post for midnight. It was crazy.
A couple of interesting facts about penal transportation:
-Part of the reason Australia became a penal colony was due to the American Revolution. When the 13 colonies became independent the Brits had to look elsewhere to send their prisoners.
-The usual transportation sentence was 7 years and you can go back to the UK. A good number of prisoners sent to Australia stayed and some became respected members of society there.
These early days of Australia were extremely harsh, no place for sissies.
The remote areas of Tasmania are not really part of the "outback" as such, still not a great place to find yourself unprepared.
