John is such a humble guy. He really did do it all back then. Great interview, I hope you have a part 2. Thanks for bringing light to all the wonderful celebrities from my younger days. Love your channel.
Oh thank you so much Kevin, that means a lot😀I am for sure having him back, so much more to talk about. It is truly amazing how humble John is. Thanks again for your support.
I enjoyed this interview very much, I have been watching John Davidson since I was a child. I not only saw the Happiest Millionaire but I have the album. It's signed by Lesley Ann Warren. I hope someday to get his too. I think he was very popular, not only was he a extremely talented actor and a wonderful singer he was one of the handsomest men I had ever seen.
So glad to hear Sherri, John is a great guy. He was so underrated as an actor, he had so many talents. Very cool about having the album signed as well.😀
Oh wow.. somehow just now seeing this interview.... John Davidson was and is a superstar! So talented and was in so many different shows thru the ages. It will be just as much fun to continue in future interview with john also! I have watched John host the pyramid gameas well as was guest on Carpenters special! Such as gracious positive guy!
WOW!!! Terrific seeing Mr. Davidson and hearing his story. My mom loved watching him. She thought he was it! So his perception of himself isn't quite what the public thought. lol. She enjoyed watching all of his shows. She just passed away this past October and I'm sure she would have loved to see this as well. I hope he gets to feeling better very soon so he can come back for more fun.
John looks amazing, thank you for sharing this wonderful interview, and thank you for giving your guests a chance to talk and finish all their wonderful stories.
Appreciate that so much Dave! Thank you for your support as well. There are definitely some fun interviews coming in the New Year! Have always loved Canada as well.
Saw John Davidson at The Palm Springs Follies (theatre closed now 😕). During half time, I was outside and turned to my left and John was standing about 8 feet from me, looking at me with that big smile. I said hi and he said hi, he caught me off gaurd and I think I said something stupid 🤣. But he was so nice and he still looked so good and could sing really well.
Really enjoyed this, John! Davidson was known as an extremely polished performer with a big toothy smile, a great voice and a boatload of charisma. I thought it was really terrific that he stripped a lot of that away and got very human and real and self-reflective about who he was then and who he is today. And very brave of him to put out there that he's an atheist! I do hope that you're able to get him back for a Part 2 - yes, there is a ton more you can ask him. And, if you do get John for a Part 2, another artist from the '70s who had a very similar public persona, and she did a few similar things as John did, was Toni Tennille, and would be interesting if you could ask him about working with her - I think they were on some specials together and he was on her talk show, etc. And, that leads me to suggest that you interview Toni herself someday - she just came out of retirement last month to do a multi-week run starring in "Hello, Dolly" in Arizona, and has SO much interesting history in her career - The Beach Boys' only Beach Girl, backing vocals on Pink Floyd's The Wall, the SOLE female backing vocalist on Elton John's "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" and more - but, also, having had her own talk show and having done so many guest spots and other hosting herself, she no doubt has tons and tons of stories to tell about others in the industry such as Bob Hope, George Burns, Ella Fitzgerald, Glen Campbell and more. Thanks again, John - keep up the great work - and Happy New Year!
Thank you so much on many levels. John was really an open book and I felt like we got each other. I appreciate your Toni Tennille suggestion and loved hearing about her background. I will do what I can to get her. Always appreciate suggestions for guests. Have a great holiday and appreciate your support! John
Another EXCELLENT interview! I relate so much as someone who grew up with TONS of TV. Yes, Mr. Davidson was a constant fixture. I love his honesty, and he's right about positivity being contagious. He really knows himself, he's modest yet a totally charming human being. I also was shy, and he's so right about "playing a role" in any job. ❤️
This was absolutely fantastic! I saw John on TYV so many times during my youth, I wondered what happened to him. Thank you for bringing this to us, and I look forward to the next installment with John. He definitely is a multi-talented individual and I always enjoyed him on TV-Keep up the good work!
Hi, John! Hope you're having a great holiday season. I really enjoyed this interview and am eagerly anticipating part 2. Having spent 18 years living just down the road from John Davidson's alma mater, Denison University, I've always been interested in its celebrity alums. Besides John Davidson, Denison can boast of Michael Eisner, Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner, Hal Holbrook, and John Schuck. I hope the second part of your interview touches upon "The Girl with Something Extra," a short-lived early '70s sitcom John did with Sally Field. It was a cute little show I vaguely remember watching in its original run and then catching up with again on the GetTV channel a few years ago. Happy New Year!
Hi Kevin! Impressive alumni group from Denison, just incredible! I will definitely be asking him about that show with Sally Field. Happy New Year to you!🎉
Growing up, I thought John Davidson and Lesley Ann Warren were the prettiest people I ever saw in The Happiest Millionare. I was in love with them and would spend my $$$ to go see them over & over on screen. John, you are an engaging interviewer. So likeable. I loved your conversation w/ Tina Cole and your delight in her.
John Davidson was so clean cut, handsome and charming, he really stood out. Over time as I grew older I lost interest as his show business persona was somewhat artificial. This was his niche and as he belonged. He wasn't designed to speak deeply or be Marlon Brando. But I didn't want to see him as a game or talk show host where for me he lost his mystique. It is so satisfying to see John lift the mask a bit on himself now where he says surprising things like, "I am an atheist." That's bold. I am over him but Angier Duke from The Happiest Millionare will always have a place in my heart. John didn't bow out before commenting on the crackerjack interviewer you are.
Thanks Gary and believe me it meant a lot to have John Davidson tell me that. He is very honest and was well aware of his own skill set. I respect that.
He was trying to think of Rosie O'Donnell as the talk show host who brought back the format. I think asking abour Mike Douglas & The John Davidson Show wasa bit of a sore spot. He ended the interview right after that saying he was losing his voice but was doing fine. Westinghouse fired Mike Douglas after something like 20 years because they thought he was too old & wanted to get someone to replace him who appealed to a younger audience. They brought in John Davidson & changed the name of the show from the Mike Douglas Show to The John Davidson Show. It was a big deal & was all over the press especially in the Philadelphia region where the Mike Douglas Show had braodcasted from. John tried hard but was skewered by the critics. He couldn't replace Mike Douglas & ratibgs & viewership plummeted. You could tell John was nervous & under pressure. He stuttered & stammered a bit & could have asked better questions of his guests. The show only lasted 2 years & was cancelled. I think he got divorced right after that too si not a good time in his life during that period. John always looked youthful & I remember him singing in the audience from a showtroom in Las Vegas & walking across the top of back of the booths with people sitting in them to get frim one side of the room to the other. You had to be athletic to do that & stay on key. Will have to check out Club Sandwich. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for all the information. As far as the interview though, John had not been well prior and had already postponed our interview but wanted to do it even though he wasn’t 100%. So although a sensitive topic John was not going to make through a full interview with the way he was feeling.

John Davidson has always been a favorite. I miss seeing him on a regular basis. You were right he was everywhere. 👏
It’s hard not to think of that time period and not see John Davidson!

Thanks Gary, much appreciated. I always liked John Davidson, he always looked like he was having fun to me.
Yes, he really did! But John was quick to correct you, saying something like, "No, I was not having fun." HA! You never know.@@ThatsClassicTV
