I've done enough brakes like this on BMWS, and the best tip i found for pulling those springs into position is use a shoe lace passed through the hook. This gives you something to hold on and makes the job 10 times easier, trust me!
@@allothernamesbutthis Used it on full drum brakes with much stronger springs. It does make it easier, even if it does mean wearing a glove to stop the laces cutting into your fingers.
I have modified flat head screwdriver for those brake springs. Cheap af. It's just old 4-5mm wide flat screwdriver where I grinded little grooves on. One in middle of the tip and one in side. So that spring stays in that groove when I push or pull spring on.
There is a trick to do this kind of spring (7:05) easily with screwdriver - you put screwdriver thru the hook of the spring and rest its end on the pole/hole where the spring hook needs to go, the rest is to pull the spring using screwdriver as lever. When you extend it enough the spring will just slide on the screwdriver to the point where screwdriver tip is located most of the time hooking itself perfectly. It's easier the longer screwdriver you have and saves a lot of time and swearing :D
@@MotiveVideo don't need to think about it. I adjust around 600 to 1000 hand brakes a year. The scuff is an indication of how far the shoe has to travel to grab. It's an indicator to let you know it's close. The difference is whether you have a heavy scuff or a light scuff. The correct technic is to jack the car up, and spin the wheel and adjust the handbrake. If the adjustment is to tight with scuff, you will notice the wheel will obviously grab when you free spin it, causing it to slow and or stop in its revolutions. What you need to do is adjust it to the point where it literally is JUST scuffing, and won't affect the wheel rotation by hand, and you cannot feel it binding, or see it slow the wheel, depending on your axle drive type. Vehicles are even adjusted this way from factory. If you have an adjustment where there is no scuff, you have no immediate idea of how correct your adjustment is, let alone whether the handbrake will work correctly in the event you need it to in an emergency situation.
For the Murican viewers, absolutely no aussie calls it an ebrake here. Its not the 1920s anymore, our brakes work these days, it's a handbrake or parking brake if you were from he 60s

CardoGTR has a great channel too! Nice collab.
Cardo got drawn to the zinc plate parts like a bee to honey.
Hahaha you know it
2:00 I feel personally attacked, from when I spent 20 mins trying to bash out the stud, only to realise the new shoe had one.
Ricardo.... I did not expect to see you on here today! 🔥You killed it brother!
I would love more collabs like these! Definitely the laughs I needed today!!

will try that if i have to strip mine again, these ones look so much stronger than flimsy e46 dust shield mounting.

@@Sf_Mason good tip though 🙂 can't remember if I used pliers or screwdriver to get them in the holes.
I've been waiting for you two to collab. Looked like a fun day haha.
Brake spring pliers are a godsend when changing the shoes.
Oh man CardoGTR is a celebrity now lol great job. You didn’t look nervous at all. Haha
He's much better than the usual guy!!!
It's only a little safety tug.
Being an american myself it was still jarring opening the episode with a American speaking and not a Australia 🤣
This GTR is going to be amazing .
Was a great idea to leave the bloopers in 👍👍✌

Whaaaaaat I didn't expect this!! Cardo's great
Easy on the ears! 🤙👍
Did I miss the bit where you're meant grease the shoe contact points, or is this some kind of extreme weight saving measure?
Loved the bloopers 😆
Cardo in da house!
Those bloopers 🤣 “take the end of your handbrake cable, give a tug.... or have a friend......😅😅” educational to say the least lmao
Awesome vid on the basics
F yeah Cardo man!!! Sick to see you guys doing a collab video! 🤙🤙🤙
I should have seen the bloopers coming with the hard park jokes! :P
love the bloopers!
Love a good set of drum brakes. I’ve got them on all corners of my car!
You need a handbrake for the front?

Its for the Handbrake only
@@felipegacitua4451 Yes I learned that in this vid. I wonder if that was gtr only, or if the gts came with it too.

Is that the original brake dust shield?
haha this outakes are so funny :D

I just realised i got the wrong wheel bearings for my s14 since the previus owner installed r33 rear breaks
Adjustment is incorrect. You want to adjust it so that the shoe is JUST scuffing the inside of the brake drum area.
Think about what you just said for a moment. Why would you want it constantly scuffing and dragging on the disc
