    The dangly things we used to call "idiot strings" that mothers would attach to mittens so the grade schoolers wouldn't lose their mittens. Up north, where the huskies go, we have these mitts called choppers. They're buckskin with wool liners. If it's really cold we put polypropylene glove liners under the wool so when you have to pull the mitts off you don't have bare skin which can freeze in minutes. In the 1950's you could get bomber gunners gloves that were mitts that had a trigger finger. They were pile lined and really warm but I haven's seen them for many years. I wonder how those gloves would be in 30 below weather?

      Those choppes sound neat! Are (were) they comparable to the bomber gunner gloves in warmth? I think in order to test out -30 I'll need to head quite a bit further north :)

      @@robertsbushcraft I don't think the gunner gloves were as warm as the choppers. They were a gauntlet kind of like the OR gloves you have so any kind of liner would be pretty much impossible. The trigger finger of the gunner glove would have been the cold spot in the glove but what was nice about them is you could pull your finger and thumb out and have them in the mitt area and warm them up. The choppers I buy on the large side so I can get lots of layers and they aren't a gauntlet type of mitt. You can get gauntlet type mitts for snowmobiling up here but they're really expensive. Love the channel. Keep up the good work.

    Are those black glove liners sold separately? Thank you for posting this video. this is a great review and gives me a better idea of the glove!

      You can find the liners on Ebay from time to time, conditions vary.

    They are pretty lightweight in a pack too. If my memory is correct my size large Firebrand gloves weigh 12oz/pr. I should have bought x-large size though. My fingertips get cold running the snowblower at 0F degrees as my fingertips are right at the tip of the liners.

    • @robertsbushcraft
      @robertsbushcraft  2 роки тому +1

      When it comes to gloves and mittens I'll never look at LARGE again. That size is always too small for me. We put a pair of the LARGE Outdoor Research Mittens on eBay recently, the thumb was just too short for my hand. So, XL is for me. I do wonder if a larger size would help with your fingertips?

    • @WisconsinEric
      @WisconsinEric 2 роки тому +1

      @@robertsbushcraft I have no doubt the XL size will be warmer. That is why I mentioned I should have bought the XL size. The tree guy I used to work for said I was buying work gloves to small too. I like a tight fit so I would buy large size, but I would always wear the fingertips out very fast on work gloves.

    I have the OR Kodiak (EWDG) gloves and liners they are awesome gloves. I also have the OR MGS TF mitts which are the same as the Firebrand except they are the trigger finger model, I use the 8415-00-160-0769 heavy wool/nylon liners extremely warm set-up.
