Many thanks for posting this one ! I have to replace my Defender TD5 alternator, and I was a bit put off doing the job as I can not even see it! Now I see that when all the plastic covers are removed you can actually see it, even if you need to grovel around to get at it, the seals on the pipes are supposed to be changed as well I read, but I think a pressure washing will be the first thing to do, thanks also for the clever camera angles, using a camera was the only way to read the chassis number on my Range Rover without stripping half the engine bay out! My power wire nut sheared off when removing the alternator too. I now use a cheap plug in voltmeter to tell me if the alternator is working when mine failed on a trip out. I suspect it was my fault, because two weeks earlier I had the drivers door check strap welded up and I did not disconnect the battery first. Whoops!

Take out battery box. Gives you all the room you need. Easy job then.
