    Fantastic. Not only an exceptionally helpful guide to an awesome sound, but I loved the structure of this tutorial, starting with examples of the sound in context and then the sound on its own before you ever get to twisting a knob. And then you spend so much time talking about the why’s as well as the what’s. All patch design tutorials should be like this. More please! Love my Rev2 . . . but will love it even more with your help.

    If you don’t have reverb unit then it’s possible to get reverb by copying layer A to layer B setting Effect to reverb at 100% mix adjusting the time and tone to your liking. Then set it to stack.

    Great stuff, I know it has been a while, but really this is one of the best reese patches out there. Thing is, this patch sounds awesome because your attention to the details, and knowledge of how to exploit Rev2's modulation power. I have Rev2 and I myself enjoy tweaking this patch - just one quick notice - audio mod comes from oscillator one. So it is basically filter cutoff modulation with audio rate from the oscillator 1. Extremely useful for all kinds of overtones. All in all, awesome patch - I haven't seen much from you recently, hope you are well and banging on with music. Cheers.

Most other vids like this they just start pressing buttons and turning knobs very quickly and it is too hard to follow. Please make more Rev2/keystep vids like this. I did have one question: your outboard reverb sounds great, but can't you program a comparable reverb effect directly off the Rev2 effects? Or do you not like the Rev2 reverb and it's capability? Cheers. Subscribing to you now!

    • @AbeldeBeerMusic
      @AbeldeBeerMusic  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the kind words, happy this was helpful! Regarding the reverb: the Rev2’s reverb is alright, and would have been fine for this bass patch, which will typically not be played solo. It’s just that the Rev2 can only do 1 effect (per layer) at a time, and the distortion is an essential effect for this patch.

    Very inspiring! I went with the Prologue 16 when all the analog polys started coming out but the modulation capabilities are way too limited to get a patch like this. In fact Id have a hard time replicating this on any of my analog monosynths (of which I have too many). I didn't really consider the rev 2 because I didnt enjoy the Prophet 08 much from a sound perspective but watching your process makes me think I made the wrong decision.

      MrFreakydnb : I remember being *so* impressed with the sound of the Prologue when ot came out. But when I compared the features with alternatives like the Rev2, I quickly lost interest in the Prologue. The modulation options on this synth are massive. This is a great step-by-step tutorial. Can you make one about syncing the Rev2 sequencer with the Arturia keystep? And for tbis video here, can you tell me why you would want to assign LFO3 to LFO1. What does that mean, exactly? Why not jusy keep LFO3 on LFO3? And by sssigning LFO3 dest to LFO1, then is not LFO1 overwritten? Can you please make more tutorials just like this? It is extremely enlightening. Many thanks.

    • @AbeldeBeerMusic
      @AbeldeBeerMusic  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! What is it you're looking for in terms of syncing the Rev2 and Keystep - just the tempo, or also the transport (start & stop)? If you explain your problem maybe I can help you. I don't think it's such an interesting topic for a tutorial TBH. Regarding your LFO question: I'm assuming you're talking about what I explain at 33:51? (please listen to my explanation again) To explain what I'm doing there: I'm using LFO3 (triangle shape) to modulate the filter cutoff, which results in a constant movement. If I had to visualise the peaks of that LFO, it would look like this: "!---!---!---!---". However, I'm looking for a less 'static' type of movement, something like this: "!----!-!!-!---". So to achieve this, I'm using LFO1 to modulate the *frequency* (speed) of LFO3. Try it yourself on an init patch, and it will become immediately clear what I mean. I will make more tutorials, starting next month. :)

      @@AbeldeBeerMusic Can I run this straight into the iMac or does it sound better through the audio interface? And thanks for the response - just got mine today!

      J T : I’d recommend using an audio interface. Have fun, it’s a very cool machine!

      status update: i deleted it trying to figure out how to save it...however i figured out how to save it, but only over presets. is there a separate bank I can store synths I make on my own without overwriting the presets?

      @AbeldeBeerMusic  4 роки тому +1

      Rhino Palace : Yeah I forgot to mention the saving part. Don’t worry about overwriting existing presets: the 4 banks of user presets are an exact copy of the factory presets (which you can not overwrite).

    Hi Abel, is there a way to save a self-made patch without having to overwrite one of the factory patches? Are there any hidden "empty slots" available in the Prophet Rev 2? Thanks!

    • @J-MLindeMusic
      @J-MLindeMusic 4 роки тому +3

      In my version (with keyboard) you have four factory banks (can't overwrite those) and four duplicates that act as user banks (can be overwritten). Hope that helps!

    More 'raw' than ob6?

    • @AbeldeBeerMusic
      @AbeldeBeerMusic  4 роки тому

      morion : If you’re comparing just the oscillators, I would say the OB-6 sounds more ‘raw’. Then again, I’ve never played the OB-6, so I don’t know what can be done with effects etc.
