I have a few implants, there are upsides. I have successfully paid off my dentist's condo in Cabo San Lucas and am working on his daughters junior year at Stanford.
I had to have an old root canaled tooth pulled a couple of months ago. I’m somewhere in between cadaver bone, the Lowe’s parking lot screw being implanted and broke. It’s expensive and definitely takes a minute to get it all done if you’re on a budget.
I've worked for an oral surgeon for several years. We perform many implant procedures. It's a lengthy time commitment, but I think you'll be happy with the end results. I hope your oral surgeon, and staff have extensive training, and experience. Please get referrals from previous patients.
@@CaseyRoman I'm certain it seems overwhelming, there are a lot of moving pieces in this process. You are so young, dentures have their own issues, and you can never go back 😕
Well, those ARE the "fun" kind of implants if they'll let you eat the stuff you want to eat! Hey ... good luck to you ... and Karl. May you live in harmony together.
My bone is too narrow to accommodate the thingie that the screw is screwed into, so they put a bunch of cadaver bone chips into the hole where my tooth's root had been. It was supposed to bind with my bone and become solid bone. Well, my body rejected it! ... By shoving every single chip out through my gum, one at a time. It took six months, and when I went back to the doc, he couldn't believe that every single chip was gone. So, he put in a Maryland bridge. It's worked out OK. Hope your procedures go better than mine!
...grieving DDS let the anchor tooth decay. Despite my calling attn to it..... several thousand dollars later, I wish I'd gone for the implant in the first place
Casey, I had all the amalgam fillings removed from my teeth and my clenching and grinding stopped. They filled them back in and it matches my teeth. My sister needs them too, like 6 or 8! My childhood friend needs an entire set! Ouch!! Wishing you good luck with yours.❤
I learned something today. I thought implants were copies of your teeth or made of some artificial material. I had two root canals and crowns done and am pretty sure next time I will opt for dentures. If only for the comedy and shock value of "popping" them out to freak out people (meaning grandkids, I'm 57) like my grandfather. LOL btw, your clickbait title lured me in.... LOL wishing you the best whichever you choose.
It's worked for me as well. Just like Jessima stated, it's life changing! It's not inexpensive, but it is far less expensive than more root canals, crowns and implants in the future. @@CaseyRoman
I would try this just to get the jaw muscles to relax a little bit, and see if the pain lessens. Maybe you could go longer than 3 months between treatments?
ACL - my friend had his ACL replaced from a cadaver. Heart Valve - my dad got to choose between a pig valve or artificial. We are cars now. Can get spare parts from the junkyard!
NC too. I had 10k worth of dental work done by a dentist who lost his license a few months later. He even LIED about that!! It was all back teeth work and I swear I am done with this even though my front teeth are fine. It's all just a great big crumbling mess around a huge cap the size of two teeth. Thanks for letting us know your journey. I makes me feel better!! But still scared to see another dentist, shits embaressing!
I've had 2 non-sexy implants and bonded ... with a generous person. I didn't do the temporaries (My 'give-a-shitter' doesn't work anymore). However, on behalf of 'your people, you might want to go the temp rout...😊
Casey, use your own bone .... just a core drill out of your hip bone. Really doesn't hurt as your under a general. Part of my hip is in my neck to replace a disk. But I wouldn't let your dentist do the drilling there. I knew it wasn't the other kind O implants, but you might get a lot more views. Hope your having a good week minus the dentist.
Not too sure who to feel sorry for, leaning towards the dead guy. You know we love you stay safe hope you don't get a case of evil eye out of ALL this.
Casey, seriously look into Botox (Not the cosmetic application, but for TMJ!) I used to clench my teeth like crazy and have a mouth full of root canals, implants and crowns to show for it. Xeomin (Basically a generic Botox) is the only thing that helped, and I tried everything else. It took two applications to get total relief, and I now go about a year and half before the muscles build back up and I need to have it done again.
@@CaseyRoman For me at least, it's been effective for more than 3 months. I went 6 months between my first two treatments, now I just go when I notice my jaw becoming tense again which has been about a year to year and half on average. The dentist I was going to was awesome and charged $500 per treatment, but he recently moved out West and bought a cattle ranch, so I need to find a new one. 😕 Try it, I honestly don't think you'll regret doing so.
You also need to consider the reduced costs you'll incur if your clenching is reduced or eliminated. The life expectancy of your existing teeth and dental work (Including those expensive bone grafts and implants) will be greatly reduced if you continue to clench. @@CaseyRoman
Fun fact...a group wanted to study correlations between root canals and brain tumors. So they got a list contacted people got records and found something like 90 some percent of people who died of brain tumors, had a root canal below the tumor...they were stunned. I should have saved it
My wife had implants in the front. Whiteville Dentist wanted $6k. Thought that was too much so we went to Leland . Leland Dentist said $9k, so we said thanks but we can get it done for 6. He said wait a minute and came back with a 6k price...Wife liked Whiteville Dentist so we went back. She got it done and a $4.5k bill???
Wear a mouthguard at night to limit the grinding, that does wonders for your teeth, my dentist told me this about 10 years ago and he said it is very important and more people need to do it, just my two Cents take it for what it’s worth 🤓👊
I have one of each, had no problem with either. I wish I had the implants done first and not wasted time with all the problems of root canals. My implants are more than 10 years old and never had a problem.
Just get dentures and do it at a dental school. Total cost is about the price of a root canal and crown and they look good and you can eat anything like with regular teeth.
I can't tell if you meant this to be funny, but it is. I have an implant, and the problem it solved was well worth the money & time. I'm fortunate to have a terrific dentist. Yours seems to have a sense of humor, and that's a good thing. I hope this works well for you. As far as cadaver bone - that person did it to help anyone, and it turns out to be you. Try to accept it in that "spirit." Oh, I also finally caved to have a night-guard for the grinding. I hated the cost, but it's helped me sleep better & it's the only more effective birth control I've ever experienced was my bucked teeth & my braces to correct them.
As someone who has just had two failed root canals and now has to get two implants at the amazing low low cost of 9000.00... feel ya, gal. I'm enjoying my new cadaver bone and telling everyone my mouth is haunted as well. Her name is Susan.
My mom’s a dentist. Wanna know something interesting? Xenografts use bone taken from an animal source, typically a cow or a pig, In cases where there is insufficient bone available for an autograft. So… instead of Carl, be thankful you don’t have bovine or swine building up your jawbone lol
Yeah. NO. Being in the old fart age group, some folks have problems with donor bone. Meth mouth is not a bad look, some places. I got a 'flipper' for my one tooth I lost due to bone erosion. It's fine.
I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that I’m now $40k into my implants/root canals and I have 2 more to go at $12k. I could of bought a brand new Jeep or something. It’s very expensive but I want to eat steak and not old enough for false teeth but it’s been a 5 year journey thanks to covid.
@@CaseyRoman I struggled with going ahead with it because of the cost but in the end I didn’t see any alternative options. You’re young enough that false teeth is far out of the question. I have 3 root canals/crowns myself. I feel for you. I get it, it sucks because it’s so costly and it’s actually quite a long process. Bone grafts and waiting for the implant screw to fuse, etc. etc… chin up Casey, it’s part of your life story/journey. (Hugs)
