A lesson can be learned from Philippians 4:14-19 in regards to James 2:14-26. The apostle Paul stated that the Philippian church was the ONLY church that sent him aid more than once when he was in need. A question naturally arises regarding the other churches that neglected the apostle Paul when he was in need. The question is: Did the fact that the other churches who neglected the apostle Paul mean that they were unsaved? NO, but it indicates that they were saved people who were either LAZY, SELFISH, SCARED, OR UNCONCERNED in not helping Paul out where they did not put their faith into ACTION. The other churches SHOULD have helped Paul out, but they did not. Again, their failure to help Paul did not mean they were unsaved. Paul commends the Philippians in that they put their faith into ACTION where Paul's needs were met. Paul assures them that their ACTION in helping him out is pleasing to God and that one day when the Philippian church is in need that God will meet their needs. The Philippian church put James 2:14-26 and 1 John 3:17-18 into practice. The issue was not salvation, but SERVICE in putting their faith into ACTION to PROFIT those in need - James 2:14-17, 1 John 3:17-18.
James 2 is teaching that as Christians we should not be MISSING IN ACTION or be spiritually stagnant/spiritually atrophied. Actions speak louder than mere words. Many Christians talk the talk, but don't walk the walk.
