At 18 I became a PCT, I liked working in the hospital but I didn't like "nursing work". So I kept studying.
Now I am one year away from being an MD and I truly appreciate all the hard work the PCT and RN do.

You’d be an amazing nurse! I’m a senior in nursing school and nurses who truly care for others are so needed! I know you said it isn’t for you but on behalf of RNs everywhere, you’re work as a PCT was SO appreciated(:

This was super interesting! It sounds like a tough job, but you approached it with compassion and care. I really respect your attitude toward patients ❤

My first job was a CNA too :p I did have my license, it was 3 weeks right after high school. I did home healthcare first during school 10-16 hours a week. After graduation I worked full time at a nursing home for 1 year 3 months, then got to the hospital for 1 year 3 months. During my time at the nursing home I got my EMT license which is 3 months. With a EMT license in Florida you can work as a MA. So I then luckily found a job as a MA in pediatrics. Worked there for 2.5 years until I finally got accepted to PA school. And I will finally be graduating PA school in August :p.
At the nursing home I worked 7-3 shift. At the hospital I worked nights. I was on the Ortho/Neuro floor.
Oh and through our certification we had to take a state exam. Both hands on exam as well as written.

I'm sure your patients were sooooo thankful for all your love and care. Last year I broke my pelvis and was in the hospital for a week and lets just say it was a horrible experience, not just from the worst pain of my life but also because most of the nurses and aids didn't listen to me, explain anything, or help me the way that I needed to be helped. I complained to some of my doctors and the head of nursing and that really went no where, like so much unacceptable and dangerous stuff happened it's honestly ridiculous. I understand I live in a small town and my hospital really never kept patients with broken pelvis' but I expected them to be so much more professional and trained than they were. And yes, it was somewhat award to have people helping you on the toilet, bathing you, etc. but when you physically can't do those things you just go with the flow.

Good for you for standing up for yourself!! That would be so unsafe for you and the patient and would’ve ultimately been your responsibility. Some people can be bullied into doing skills they’re not qualified to do and get into lots of trouble!

9:10 I’ve never agreed to anything MORE! Definitely working as a PCT at a hospital opened my eyes to how much nurses do, props to them. Also, cheers to being the youngest PCT, (I also started at 19) it’s intimidating but oh so fun! Yes definitely agree on day shift not working together, honestly I think it’s because they have so much to get done, but I enjoyed night shift crew so much!

You sound like you've worked super hard, and the perspective and compassion you learnt in this role will definitely benefit you in the rest of your career even if it's not in health.

I work as a Life Enrichment Director in an Assisted Living Facility, so of course I’m with Nursing Assistants all day and it’s a hard, demanding, important, crucial job. Kudos to you for doing that and having such a positive outlook about it! Your good energy is always so evident in your videos and it’s so refreshing! Also, love your earrings! So cute!

My mom is a "float" night nurse. (She works on whatever floor needed) Here the CNAs do this work, and I know that it is a big help to nurses. Especially for nurses like my mom, who doesn't know where she is working until an hour before her shift, what you did is so necessary.

I did an internship program through my high school and got PCT certified and for a couple hours during the school days, I would go shadow a PCT at my local hospital. I was never in charge of patients, I purely just watched and learned, but my goodness, it was so eye opening! Props to you, being a PCT is serious work!

when I was a patient at the hospital and I woke up from coma, I was disoriented and I thought it was the same day when I was admitted to the hospital (even though I woke up 1 month later). I was trying to get up and go look for my husband, a mean nurse came and asked me "where are u going?" and I could not talk (I was on a ventilator). I was trying to write letters in air ;) She was like "umhm I don't understand you". Then 5 minutes later she returns with her PCT who was a male, they make fun of me, laugh at me and she injected me with sedative and I slept for 24 hours... woke up had an angel nurse a true angel!

Hey girl! I'm new to your channel and I'm kinda binge watching your videos! I think it's so awesome that you were a PCT. I'm in Florida working at the hospital and we are actually called PCA's( Patient Care Assistant) and we do about the same work as well! Also, I work on one of the hardest floors in the hospital too! (Med/surg floor) We were actually able to do straight caths, but not foleys. It's definitely a hard job and I've been doing it for 4 years now! It's crazy and I always dread coming to work, but it definitely has it's moments when you just love it! I really enjoy your videos and can relate to you in a way. I did go to college after high school, but wound up dropping out for personal reasons. I'm 26 years old and just started back for dental hygiene and it's tough going back to school and living in an apartment when everyone is younger than you. I feel old lol Student apartment cause PCA salary isn't great and 1 bed apartments aren't cheap here! But keep at the videos! I get happy when I see you've uploaded a new one!

Hi- thanks for sharing. A few months ago I started my UA-cam channel. I’m 23 and want to share more about me. I feel comfortable enough sharing some of my struggles about my mental health. Just my parents aren’t suggesting that. Their main concern was I’m currently job searching. Employers will look at your doing media. UA-cam is the only one public vs private. And just my parents don’t want me sharing with the world about myself. Even on Instagram or Facebook, which are private my dad will say to me I wouldn’t suggest sharing about your struggles.

Are PCT's still on the job during the coronavirus pandemic?
Essential healthcare workers are so important during this pandemic... To care for those who do have the virus as well as researchers looking for a vaccine. I'd imagine the process of PCT's is quite different for tending to those who do have the coronavirus

I live in Mississippi and our local small hospitals are the worst. The drs, nurses and pcts are so bad, if we get a new pact, or nurse and they are nice and caring they never stay at our hospital. I know the hospital in Columbus I think it's called Baptist it's super good and so is ST Dominic's in Jackson but umc was not so great.
