I don’t think the 85/15s get enough credit for their single coil sounds. It was the first thing that REALLY struck me about my semihollow ce24. I own more strats and teles than I know what to do with so I’m very familiar with their sound/feel. The first time I threw the bridge into single coil on the ce, I was shocked...the stupid thing sounds like a tele. Same thing with the neck. The single coil neck does that nice, flutey, vocal strat neck sound....especially with a tube screamer out front. I’ve always loved my 2002 custom 24 and it’s still my number one. I know it more intimately than I know most people and I LOVE the rotary positions. But this is one area the ce-24 semi has it beat. The 85/15s are incredible impressionists. 335, strat, tele, thinline, PRS split, humbucking rock, jazz, country...it’s all in there.

Just purchased this guitar after playing only a Peavey Wolfgang Standard since 1998. I went with the PRS because it was so different than my Wolfgang and it has a warmth that the Wolfgang just can't achieve. That being said, the neck is wider, has a finish and the pickups are less hot...but that's why I got the PRS. So versatile with the Coil Tap switches. And yes I bought the green. The selling point for me were the videos with Paul and his team showing me the process how the SEs were made and how each guitar was setup in Maryland. I'm a hack player and my only fan is my cat in the bedroom, but I've found that the Custom 24 has a lot of value at $929 and I'm very happy with my purchase.

I splashed out on one of these in April this year (2023). A lot of money for an electric guitar and I'm sure there's no shortage of guitarists out there who would argue that it's too much. There can be no argument, however, about the build quality and finish of these incredible instruments which, quite frankly, makes my jaw drop. Out of the box with no post purchase setup, it is simply effortless to play up and down the fretboard and hardly ever needs re-tuning, even after heavy use of the whammy bar.
The one concern I had was regarding the pickups. Initially, they were far too hot and tone-wise, not that great. It seemed impossible to get a clean sound out of the guitar even with adjusting the volume. I began to think I'd made a huge mistake. That was, until I made a simple height adjustment and altered the tonal balance of the pickups. What a massive difference that made and what a massive relief. It now not only looks and feels beautiful but it has the tone(s) to match. Quite a special experience to pick up and play.

I am wondering if this video has some audio adjustments made to it. I've got a 2020 Core 24-08 and my single coils do not sound as full as this demo. They are VERY thin. If I were to use the guitar with a single coil mode, I would have to rebalance my entire rig to suit that otherwise, I'll just be out of the mix entirely sounding weak and thin, low volume.

As far as I can tell the main difference is that the neck pickup is reversed on the 35th anniversary. On my 35th anniversary the screws (live part of the humbucker) are on the inside furthest from the neck. Here the neck humbucker has them on the outside closest to the neck.

Yeah, it was released last year and it was called the “35th Anniversary Custom 24”. Since the anniversary year (2020) is over, I guess they had to change the name of the model to this “Custom 24-08”. The only difference I can see is that this guitar has the Signature Script logo on the face of the headstock, while last year’s model had the PS Bird. Also, the trussrod cover is different.

Not much, the tone in the bridge’s resonance might vary ever so slightly due to the change in construction, mass, and materials used in the Floyd, but overall it would be virtually unnoticeable, it will primarily be changing the playability only. My ten cents though? Unless you’re gonna be crashing on that trem 24/7 just stick with Paul’s Gen 3 Trem, it’s more than solid and works like a charm, not to mention the crystal warmth it resonates with each note.

Superb range of tones here, but I’m not sure of the multiple switches. The late 80s was full of guitars with switches here and switches there.. but whenever that’s appeared, it’s inevitably been replaced by something more ergonomic and elegant.
It would take a lot to get me away from the 5 way blade in my Cu24. 5 positions is plenty to me - I’m not sure there was a problem seeking a solution here.
Time will tell.. and regardless of the apparent over-engineering, this is a stunning guitar.

The only thing I can't get on PRS guitars is the pickup selector location. It's just located in the least convinent location and really isn't that ergonomic. That's what really holds me back from buying a PRS even though I'm in love with every other features of the guitars. Such an amazing instrument, yet this thing is a deal breaker for me

I'm not sure about the sound, IMO there are so many cheaper guitars that sound as good, but what PRS core model appeal is how it looks, it is exceptionally beautiful, that's why people are buying

The PRS 6 points are extremely smooth. What more do you want with it being a 2 point? Just curious, never owned anything with a 2 point.

It’s not a vintage geared guitar. Sure, the direction of the core Custom 24 has evolved over the years from the fire breathing, hotter ceramic pickups from the 90’s & early 00’s, but most rock / alt players that would be considering similar price points, and style of guitar from boutique guitar manufacturers would be seeking a ‘thinner’ profile neck.
There will be exceptions, but you one presumes they researched the market before deciding on final design. Have custom 24’s always been a thinner profile anyway?
