Massively educative being able to hear him call tactics. Thanks for miking him up and sharing ! I've watched this a half dozen times already.
Two screens allows to see the crew job, perfect!
A master class on Yacht racing, Thanks guys !!!
Another outstanding video. Thanks for mic'ing Terry. Fascinating to hear him doing his thing.
Thank you for posting, I learned a lot.
totally awesome video, amazing everything was decided at the start and after that almost a follow the leader.
As you'd want it to be.
One of my he best sailboat racing videos I have seen in a very long time. This should be done more often.
Amazing how fast they move those sails around, never wet.
OMG I could watch this for hours. Amazing video and love the everything about racing

Nice to see how the jib car can be adjusted from the rail upwind.
I *love* the ridiculus jib sheeting angle. Is there even a gap left in there? Good god. Awesome vid. More please.
Little Star Exactly my thoughts...perhaps a foot or less. Must be how it is these days.
I used to "race" on cruising boats--jib sheet block was on the toerail LOL. amazing whats done now.
Terry is awesome
awesome
Dog barks would be the R-rated moments of the discussion
Pretty sure they are secret information, rather than swearing. Listen 32:36 "and straight... bark bark bark" i bet it was beating angle.
a dolphins squeak to cover the secret or profane might have been more appropriate for the images
Jeff Spearin Thanks for that!
I believe dog bark sound is the warning tone for overload on the runners, measured by a load cell built into the clevis pin at the base of the headstay. In the past, overloading the hull has caused these boats to break in half.
also at 40:40
Rekeeling the boat stem to stern academic will make the boat sail more upright and faster. Mast and ahead of the mast frees up the mainsail to work in the forward direction.
I think that's when he's giving somebody the business. Would be instructional to hear what he's not happy with.
What are the two numbers called like….5 and 3…..6 and 5…..5 and 4????
Is there a cross reference sheet for the lingo...lol? Bow Down ? Bow Up ? Different meanings depending upwind/downwind, left/right of mark? Also "a little hike"..Thanks very much.
Wait... is that the runner load alarm?
What are the times Terry is asking for?
Barking, load sensor?
is Terry's dog onboard?
great upload! thanks for sharing.
Sea doggo.
whos dog is that Barking ???
What are the 2 numbers being called out by the navigator?
I think it is time to reach the laylines. If he said "four six," I'm interpreting that to mean they would hit the layline if they continue for four minutes, or the opposite layline in 6 minutes if they tack/gybe
Great video. Very nice insight into the mind of the tactician. Who is the driver “Bora”?
look up quantum team on the web.
@Glenn Watson Fun fact: Bora is named after a wind in Turkey. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bora_(wind)
5:10 "gave up too much"
? He was directing, how is it the other guy's fault?
Did we win?
YAY, Italy won :D
Excuse my ignorance, but what are the numbers they call out to each other for? ..."6 & 4" or "4 & 4" for example :)
Probably time to lay-line on both tacks.
@@gkelly941 Yes... I messaged Hutch and that is what he told me.
Richard Finlayson boat lengths to something. The start, a marker, another boat, wind, etc.
I am new to this. He says "no lower" about a million times. What does it mean??
Mersaul4 To the helmsman: do not fall anymore away from the wind...i.e. good heading just there
On a downwind leg, the maxim is "sail low, go slow." He is coaching the helmsman to sail a higher angle to the wind, which makes the sails 'feel' more wind and makes the boat go faster. On many boats, the spinnaker trimmer provides this input.
Upwind, he is cautioning the helmsman to keep the boat sailing as close as possible to the wind, probably to maintain their position with the boat on their port quarter.
G Kelly disagree, up in the lulls, down in the puffs.
True, but only downwind. Upwind the goal is to maintain optimum VMG by sailing as high as possible without slowing the boat, as stated at 1:15.
Go ahead, go on tell me again,” big hike here boys”, like anyone moved from the last time you said it. Lol
What class? Where?

In the video description "Race 8 52 Super Series 2017 Miami Royal Cup"
I think TP 52 in Chicago.
what boats are these
These are TP52 class sailboats
Where's the dog?
Team secrets and/or cursing.
When he's calling for "times" what's that mean?
i would have to say they are the distances to the leeward gate laylines
I wondered this myself. Times to laylines makes sense. I wonder if they are allowed to "ping" these on GPS before the start of the race?
What do you mean by "ping"? Laylines move all the time, Don't they?
SailingAddict I mean ping the marks so that the computer/tactician can calculate the lay lines.
SailingAddict without a chart plotter program of some sort to calculate distance/time to lay-line it is difficult to even guesstimate until you are just a few boat lengths away.
Why the dog barks?
Team secrets and/or cursing.
Sam Tobio saw you and thought you had a wok.
This is some cool insight but would be better if it had audio from the others so you get a better understanding of what is going on.
the dog is a tone on the tablet computers they are using.
times I would think is about sailing minutes on one tack versus the other
Nigel W I'm pretty sure the barks were added in editing to bleep-out the bad words sailors use!
Whats that dog barking??!
Great video and great to listen in on the decisions. But they don't realise that hiking like that makes zero difference to making the boat flatter.
