There are days that I want someone like Spike..who comes to my workplace and convice me to leave and have a better life because I deserve/need/worth it. 😔
I know that "serve" and "service" are used interchangeably these days so that younger folks may not know the difference, but Spike and I are old enough to remember that humans could give or offer service, but the only time one human "serviced" another was when sex was involved, not necessarily for money.
It's very thought provoking how they chose to to omit all the places where Buffy softens towards Spike or admits to wanting him like in this scene where the whole wistful "yeah" scene was edited out or in "As you Were" where we see a much softer approach on Buffy's breaking up with Spike. Not sure I agree with their choices as I kinda ended up hating Buffy a little due to their editing and directing. In the dailies, we see Sarah Michelle Gellar breaking up with Spike in a much gentler fashion.
I totally agree with you. At the end of Buffy, I ended up hating her for all she did to Spike. Not that I am excusing him. He hurt her as well but on the episodes they were together in season six, these small parts were she does treat him like a man and shows some caring, it made all the difference. They shouldn't have been edited.
Came here to comment exactly what you said! In the dailies, Buffy is so gentle toward Spike... both physically and emotionally. I prefer that. It's such a shame that they edited out all the softer moments between them. Sad. I watch that scene in "As you were" a hundred times and wish every single time that they had kept the part where she almost touches Spike's cheek as she is breaking up with him. That was EVERYTHING!!!!! :(
This was in the script too. Not sure why they edited it out. I guess they wanted to revisit Spike being evil with "Seeing Red." Create a catalyst for his big change in S7. But there were moments when Spike is clearly reaching out for Buffy, quite sincerely, and she slaps him away. She tells him she doesn't love him, even though certain scenes contradict it. She does admit to wanting him a few episodes later, when they break up. And she does admit having feelings for him, but its all so cold & manipulative until season seven.
I completely agree, the first thing i thought when i saw that i was like "that wasn't in the scene" and yet that simple yeah has a profound effect on this scene. I have yet to see this softer approach to her break up with Spike. But it does make me question what else they have cut between them that really should have been kept in.

I always hated that they low balled buffy with a lame job. There are so many entry level jobs that would have been less depressing. She could have taken an apprenticeship even. She has skills, maybe a personal trainer. Makes me think she should have pushed Dawn at the end of the Gloria Mesa, let faith take the rains and got a life. Ps Dawn sucks!
Did you watch season 6? The season was supposed to be about the realities of life,growing up and Buffy's depression and hopeless situation.The mundane and low paid job at the fast food outlet was intentional to fit with the hopelessness she felt and the despair and sad tone that dominated the season which caused her to act out. Buffy was supposed to be in a very bad place mentally and the physical setting of her minimum wage job reflected this despair and futility. She no longer felt like she belonged anywhere on earth,Spike even said here she didn't belong there, she belonged more with him now as he was not part of life and the real world-he represented the dead and the unnatural and she too was also like this. Her grim workplace was also intentional to reflect her sense of having lost a sense of belonging and purpose which again came back to her depression. Had she worked in a law firm, it wouldn't have had the same effect or emphasized the writer's intent or the intent for the grim tone that which dominated the entire season. Basically she was supposed to be at rock bottom and the metaphorical big bad she fought in this season was depression and the hard realities of life that people find themselves in like bad jobs etc-that was the whole point.
@@MrYeab0iiii She actually had no qualifications to become a guidance counselor. I worked in education as a supply teacher for years; there was no WAY Buffy could have got that job in real life. Schools are very strict about qualifications and background checks. But police don't have to have University degrees for entrance level positions or apprenticeships. Considering that Buffy had a year of university, good high school graduation grades, and her Slayer skills, I think she could have easily got a paid internship with the police in Sunnydale. They were a pretty pathetic bunch who must have been desperate for new blood. (Pun decidedly intended 😆)

They couldn’t have made her work as some kind of intern in law enforcement?! The writers were overpaid on this one.
