Hey! I am Maria, and here you will find my ramblings about movies, TV shows, fandoms, and an everlasting vampire obsession.
I am a fangirl, I have been in fandoms longer than some of you have been alive, and I love sharing my passions with everyone who would listen (and with those who wouldn't). My older videos attest to my slight obsession with Buffy the Vampire Slayer (it wasn't slight) and I don't want to delete them, but now I'm dedicated to youtubing for real (I hope).

Why we heart vampires - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Clips of BtVS (movie and TV show) and James Marsters interview (plus Nicholas Brendon!) from "Why we heart vampires" NBC special.
for sure throught it would end with him saying "I want you to meet the Vampire Armand. My BFF."
6 minutes in and getting flashbacks to being 9 years old at a new school and one girl took me aside because I was becoming close with her bestie and she was mad cause that was HER best friends and I needed to back off so actually this makes perfect sense if you change the setting to an elementary school playground
I have watched a full version with Russian dubs and i haven't known that we have an officially censored version. It is ridiculous 😂😂
I also didn't know! Stumbled upon it once while clicking around on Kinopoisk and was like "wait...." 😅
@@iabcesuu 🏴☠️? I had some people tell me that some unofficial dubs also had censored scenes...
@@mariamaynot Hmm, I don't thought of that, since show with unofficial dubs has stayed with a homosexual message. What may they cut? For why? After I watched the original version and I didn't notice new scenes for me. Maybe I wasn't paying attention.
they honestly should just pulled the show from Russia
I guess it's not that simple when there are contracts/money involved...
Another set of baffling choices! You didn't mention this in the video, but at the funeral, before Grace says that "white daddy" line, Louis says he adopted Claudia, in this version, is that just cut out? How does Louis explain Claudia? And do they leave in the part where she says it smells awful and she's just generally being rude about a dead woman? 😅
@@dialiaga yes, everything I don't mention is left as-is. So Louis says that he adopted Claudia yes. It helps that in the original they're Daddy Lou and Uncle Les - it's translated the same way. And the comment about the smell is still there
Now I know why men go to some forest. They say it's for hunting and fishing...
it's just something they do. for no reason at all!
I have a strange confusing feeling that this version looks more like the original book 😅 Ann Rice didn't say many things too. And again, poor censores. They have to deal not only with Lestat and Louis, but with Sam and Jacob as well 😂❤
ahah she definitely didn't 😅I remember reading iwtv and thinking "aren't they supposed to be in love or sumthin?"
@mariamaynot of course they aren't, they're just best friends!
To answer your coffin vs. casket question, Lestat sleeps in a coffin, and Louis and Claudia sleep in caskets. Coffins are shaped to generally follow a human form (wider at the head/shoulders and narrower along the legs), while caskets are just rectangular. Caskets also usually have hand-holds to make carrying/transport easier, while coffins do not. The translations of these two episodes seem even more haphazard than the first two. The choices they've made make Louis and Lestat's "friendship" sound utterly ridiculous, to the point that it's almost making the missing queer subtext stand out *more* by virtue of having to be chopped out so thoroughly. And the scene edits! Wow. Claudia just standing there for a split second? Random pauses to mention the weather? Just wow. Just out of curiosity, in the Russian credits for each episode, do they list the translators? If so, are they the same people across episodes, or do different people work on each? I'm curious if it's just one/a couple inconsistent translators doing a bad job, or different ones every episode so that you end up with the whole story kind of cobbled together from more or less harsh translations. Also, leaving the caress in was a *choice*, and it made me chuckle. Gotta keep all the awful queer words out, but oops, that intimate touch slid right on by. Thanks for continuing to discuss and share these translations with us! I remain utterly baffled by their choices on all levels.
thank you for the explanation! I tried to find some info on the translators, but couldn't - there's nothing in the credits or on the website 🤔
@@mariamaynot My pleasure. I actually looked up the difference between coffins/caskets a little bit ago specifically because of IWTV. 😂 Thanks for looking anyway!
i’m shocked the hand stroking the shoulder was left in
@@rockyowls exactly! And it would've been such an easy cut...
I really enjoy how you seem to know most of the dialog of every one of the original episodes by heart, very relatable 😅
@@hannahmicha6267 I know most of them, yes! But I'm also looking at the transcript to make sure 😅
Most dialogues make no sense after their editing. What a mess.
I am absolutely invested in this! Thank you for sharing. Can you also tell us the runtime for all these?
of course! 1st episode is 56 minutes, 2nd is 43 min
I was waiting for this video lol. I can't bring myself to watch this version, but your videos are really funny
@@kh-victoria thank you! Glad my suffering wasn't in vain 😅
I am so intensely curious about what they did with the blood drinking scene at the beginning of episode 5. And wait, what even is the next episode about if they're just friends? Is Lestat mad that Louis has a second friend? Do men apparently have to drive out into the bayou to talk?
Male friendships in Russia are apparently just a really taboo thing that can only happen in private, for no specific or defined reason shhhh don't think about it.
@@katherineelmore9919 we'll soon find out! 👀
I'm going to have to add "library of confusion" to my rotation of colloquialisms after watching this review! lol Another great review!
@@gramercyplace3 thank you! ❤️
Did they keep the scene where Louis drinks from Damek lmao?
@@tombboy1436 they did!!
They can cut scenes and change the dialogue but they can absolutely not take away sam reid's perpetual heart eyes <3
@@123SimsFan and Jacob's too! In the theater scene it was so obvious
Лестат может носить на руках исключительно Луи 😤
"They were roommates!" I'm fascinated by how the translation is trying to walk this particular tightrope. Some of the choices they've made with this episode are baffling, and unlike the first episode, feel more like they're trying to figure out how to keep just on the "right" (terrible) side of illegal. And boy, what they do cut really messes up this so-called friendship. Louis is in the depths of despair about losing his family, and Lestat's all, "Yeah, well, you kind of suck anyway. ...Wanna go to the opera?" Thank you for continuing this series! I am fully expecting the translation to get even messier and more complicated when Claudia is added to the mix.
@@FortressofTrees ngl looking forward to their explanation of the adoption of Claudia 😬
Louis is so lucky his buddy pal Lestat is there to push him to have fun since without him he would be eternally on his grind set as society expects of him
My brain hurts 😵💫😭 Why did they even bother at this point?
I keep wondering!
This is very sad, but also fascinating to see what they decided to cut it to change, I hope you do more videos about this version
You know, this is a good lesson for all of those U.S. book banners who want to keep LGBTQIA+ books off of library shelves. This is where that sort of movement will lead us. This is why we need to stop that movement in its tracks.
Now I'm interested in what they've done with the season 2. What happened between Armand and Lestat? Lestat was just a good actor, I suppose. And Daniel probably was excited because Armand and Louis both met Lestat, of course. And Santiago asking if Louis and Armand are friends. And what happened with Amadeo's story?.. And Madeleine's past? Does it even exist in this version?.. And the most important question for me - the 5 episode, the 'rest' scene. Was it too intimate or just enough?.. So many questions. I'm russian too, but I think I'm not strong enough to watch this by myself 🥲
@@owlsnotes020 I'll be strong for all of us 💪
When I first watched this show, I watched the first season in its original version. For certain reasons I had no access to the second season in English so I had to watch in in Russian. You've no idea how confused I was until I realized that it was heavily edited 😂 I was like "wtf my dude, you have all those gorgeous men and you're not gonna make them snog? Well that's ridiculous!"
an understandable and valid reaction 😁
I watched the whole first season not knowing Louis and Lestat were together😂 Then I watched the whole season again. And it makes a huge difference.
@@kseniashe2898 you're lucky, you had the experience of watching it for the first time twice 😅
The funny thing is, there IS an uncensored Russian dub out there. Don't know who made it or where it was distributed, but I caught a couple dubbed episodes of season 2 on okru. Also, I'd love more videos on this censored version. I’m dying to know how they worked around such crucial elements and how absolutely ridiculous it gets. Its incredibly sad that this censorship exists but I know it can't fool anyone, and their attempts are hilarious
@@tombboy1436 yes, there is! But it's not an official dubbing 🏴☠️
Now I'm curious to know how they're going to tell the whole series without mentioning or showing Louis and Lestat's love. How are they going to do it? if it's the main plot!
You should definitely keep reviewing these
Lol. There is a censored version of iwtv. I have seen s1 and s2 two times, both in english with subtitles on russian. I have no idea how you can make gay show not gay. Ну или надо перевод Гоблина было бы подключать и вообще все переозвучивать.
I knew about the censored version, and I accidentally watched a couple of episodes of the second season like that, or rather, I saw normal episodes, and then when I was rewatching it I came across versions where pieces of episodes were missing (and I remembered that they were there). I was so so so confused. I see why it's not banned, it's just not popular enough. I just don't see the point to do a voiceover and subs for Kinopoisk, Ivy, etc.
@@kh-victoria I replied earlier - it's part of the AMC bundle, so maybe they're contractually obligated to release all of its shows? It warrants an investigation
Yes, I'm so interested in how the episodes get edited. It's sad but being an editor there would be an interesting job to attempt to make shows make sense without the full context. Thanks for posting this!
@@JamieReed-n3p it definitely is a challenging job! Thank you for watching!
Mais pfvr ❤
Cutting the "come to me" scenes is crazy work. A lot of what they cut seems superfluous for what they have to do.
You kinda have to laugh imagining the censors reaction when they heard they were assigned this show. 😂 and then you cry, because holy crap what is even going on- I guess that “Come to me” was just a little too smexy 🤷🏻♀️
@@Anthchaoart censors getting this job: 🚬 🚬 🚬
I'm so curious on how they plan on continuing with the story because as more and more vital elements get cut out the story and character choices are only going to become increasingly incomprehensible
I heard your hearts dancing? 😅

You deserve so many more views, found you through the IWTV video and then saw this on your page. Old guard took me by surprise when I saw it, and I fell in love with it. Though I didn't know there was a sequel and will now watch the interview, you linked. Thank you! :)
@@yoknom thank you! ❤️ Hopefully we get the sequel next year 🤞
The atrociously bad quality of the dub is almost worse than all the censorship. How could one guy with clothespin on his nose in the 80s do a better job than these morons? Did someone tell them that reverb is good one day and they never stopped using it since? WTF
Would love to see more!
@11:37 this is hilarious. Terrible, but from some standpoint a very clever way to erase all things gay.
This is utterly fascinating (and deeply sad). I guess it didn't even occur to me that IWTV would be airing in Russia, because it's just *so* queer. Thank you for sharing this breakdown of the hackjob they've done on the pilot with international viewers. I hope you keep going and talk us through the other episodes too (as long as it's safe for you to do so)! Also, I'm wondering if you know what the average non-LGBTQ+ Russian viewer thinks of these kinds of edits to media? Are most people aware? Do they just shrug and go with it? Or is this an indicator of the disconnect between government censorship and people's lived experiences?
@@FortressofTrees thank you, I will continue (hoping they won't notice me breaking laws if I'm doing it in English lol) As for the audience - I think general audience isn't aware of it. They just keep watching the way they're used to doing it and don't really care about the edits unless they're pointed out. But ppl in Russia were generally okay with LGBT stuff (of course some baseline homophobia has always been there, but not to the extent of this panicked "ban everything" reaction ), but the state's fear mongering propaganda is working, and a lot more people nowadays are opposed to "the west's influence" when they haven't been before
oh i am SO curious to see how the hell theyre gonna navigate the whole "i heard your hearts dancing" and bayou scene in episode 3
Right? Think they'll probably just cut the bayou out, but overall I'm just super curious to know how they even make the plot work without the gay. I mean how do Louis' motivations then even make sense?
You are a surprise and a delight! A couple years after the Soviet Union fell during Reagan, I watched a news story about the burgeoning Russian porn industry. It was so wild, I couldn't have imagined this current puritanism. Wow. They massacred our show, but hey, I'm glad this diamond-in-the-rough is getting international exposure in any form. Thank you!
i'm so interested to see how they handle the rest of the story! especially what they make of claudia!
this is a minor nitpick compared to the whole censorship thing, but i kinda hate that Daniel and Louis are using the formal You with each other. do they go informal in later episoded?
@@cl3538 I haven't seen later episodes yet, but I will keep an eye (ear) on it
I can't wait to see what will happen in season 2 when those soldiers see Louis and Claudia and "say Black Ukrainians?"
@@925lexi I didn't even think of that! They'll probably change the country 🙈
i saw someone on twitter say their friend watched this version and kept saying the show would be much better if they were romantic… the friend was so confused and told her they were, they kissed multiple times… turns out she was watching this version 😭
@@eliseivanica literally a conversation I had with my brother who watched this version 😭 he also read the books so he was like "I remember it was a lot gayer" 😬
Maria, you truly are a god's strongest soldier. As a (unfortunately) russian I'd never have the guts to watch this abomination. I saw 1 (one) screenshot of 2x07 scene where they changed "this is a story of love" to "this is a story of friendship" and that was enough for me. What they did to my favourite show in this damn country is a story of butchery (see what I did there?). Keep up the great work and thanks for taking one for the team <3
thank you! I'm already afraid of what comes next 😅
If it's kinda expected with queer content, but them censoring heterosexual sex in Euphoria was a surprise for me. Most of the scenes with Kat were cut, like it was S2 already, lol 🙃
