Regarding a fit model at the earlier prototype stages. For this purpose I LOVE to use a 3d modelling software called Clo3d. It is amazing because you can customize your mannequn or even make a real 3d body scan of a person and uplode it. Another great possibility is changing the postures and even seing the so called stress map and strain map, those are fitting instruments that show you (also in a changed pose) by indicating with colors, how tight your garment is. And of course you can change the fabric properties for the simulation, which not only showing you different optic qualities, but count physical properties, and of course if you change the grain direction you see how the drape changes as a consequence.

I also use CLO and it definitely has some benefits to initial fitting especially if you are not familiar with your sizing or are trying to figure out your sizing for the first time. However, it has limitations in that it can't perfectly replicate fabric and fitting conditions. In addition, it is quite expensive for new brands especially because it isn't able to provide completely accurate fitting. My recommendation is always to invest in a fit form that represents your base size because it can be used over and over again to create consistent fit. From that, then you can fit on a model during the final phases to confirm the function and feel of the garment on a real person. 3D is an amazing tool to have and use but unfortunately it is not to the point yet where it can completely replace in person (and on person/form) fitting. Overall, I would say that 3D design tools, like CLO, best use is to reduce the number of samples required to get to the finalized garment.

@@POINTSofMEASURE I agree that Clo has some limits, but they improve constantly which is great! In terms of being expensive, probably I never found a service that make your fit form for a reasonable price. Any hints how to have it covered? What you should pay attention to, how to find a good service, maybe you can even recommend one? All information is welcome! And thanks so much again for your job!

Hi Nadia, I always recommend Alvanon for custom forms. They are great and super accurate!

I am looking for a style number generator.

JP Fennel Moses I don’t have a generator that I use. If you find one please let me know! I typically follow the coding of: brand initials, number, gender indicator. So for the first style in a women’s category for a brand named New Brand it would be: NB0001W
