  • Grenade Bars are delicious and have rapidly become the most popular protein bar in the UK. They are slowly taking over the world so congratulations to the guy who came up with them. I eat one every Friday as a treat but I know some people believe they are sin/guilt free or may even build muscle or help you to lose fat. So what is the truth? In this video I compare the Grenade Oreo flavour (Da bestest one!) with the humble Mars Bar and question if it is really that much better than choosing a simple chocolate bar... #gym #muscle #grenade #proteinbar

    My current favourite are the Barebells ones, better taste and macros than most others. Great for protein on the go. Per 55G bar 204 kcal, Fat/Sat 8.8/3.6, Carbs/Sugar 16/1.5, Fibre 2.9, Protein 20 and no palm oil.
    Along the same lines I am loving the Ehrmann protein desserts, Lemon, Strawberry and Chocolate Mouse and set ones too like Vanilla and Caramel flavours. Again really good macros and feel like a proper dessert (I have a very sweet tooth and these satisfy my cravings).

    To be honest on a keto diet the grenade bars has helped alot and have not raised my insulin levels or taken me out of ketosis so im sure the polyols are not digested by the body. This does justify the price tag in my eyes.

    Thanks for the info fella.
    I'm not trying to be a smart arse but just an Fyi on the point about Oils , Rapeseed oil contains the least saturated fat of all oils - and that’s good, as current advice confirms a diet high in saturated fat is linked to poorer heart health. It has less monounsaturated fat than olive oil, but a bigger proportion of polyunsaturated fat, which helps to lower LDL cholesterol. it also has higher Vitamin E content than Olive Oil and also higher in antioxidants.
    That being said my Wife is Greek and we exclusively use extra virgin Olive Oil, however my old Mum has always Swared by Rapeseed Oil and its health benefits over vegetable oil and Sunflower oil.
    She uses Rapeseed for Cooking and Olive oil for dressing.
    Oh... Rapeseed is healthier for your vehicle and its emissions too in Bio-ethanol & Bio-Diesel vs regular fossil fuels, So healthy for your Motor too LOL
    Cheers for the informative video .👍

    I don't think carbohydrates are the same. Per 100gram Plantain has 32g carbohydrate fibre 2gram, banna 23g carbohydrate 3gram fibre, maize 18.7 carbohydrate 2g fibre, sweet corn 13.6 carbohydrate 1.6g fibre. On the surface maize and plantains have much more carbohydrate and you would think would make you fatter. Difference is maize and plantains are full of resistant starch and much lower in simple sugars, the resistant starch is broken down in your intestines, vs the simple sugars are broken down prior. There is some maize in that bar. Still, I would rather go for less processed food.

    • @thatgearguy
      @thatgearguy  Рік тому +1

      That is true but there is no whole maize in that bar. The processed maize has none of the benefits and is just used by food companies because it is cheap.

      @@thatgearguy processing can increase resistant starch, like toast has more resistant starch than bread. Not sure why they use the maize, maybe a cheap filler. You would think at the price they wouldn't skimp out on quality ingredients, but I realise it doesn't always work like that

      @@thatgearguy lol. Under further examination a lot of the carbohydrate is polyols. I am unsure if they are good or bad. I use an olive leaf extract that has glycerine in it, which is a polyol, which I really would rather not use. Apparently olive oil with some leaf in it, is more nutritious and has a longer shelf life, but I can't find any. I guess some would say these bars are good because of the polyols and some would say they are bad, because of the polyols

    I eat them to help me stay of sugar as I usually gorge every day on something like five candy bars which is going to kill me.
    I can eat up to four grenade bars a day and although that's too much carbs for my weight loss gains, my primary objective is to avoid refined sugar.
    I can handled under 10g of sugar a day and even eating four Grenade bars a day should give me no more than 6g of sugar if they are being truthful on the label. Of course, the secondary sugar/glucose I will get from all the carbs wont' be good but the main point is avoid direct, refined sugar.
    Of course, they are also not economically sustainable to eat four a day at £2.50 each.

    • @thatgearguy
      @thatgearguy  3 місяці тому +1

      Just recruit some willpower. 4 a day is frankly ridiculous.

    • @NR-rv8rz
      @NR-rv8rz 3 місяці тому

      @@thatgearguy Let's examine your idiotic reply shall we?
      When I eat four a day I don't get any ill effects from the sugar that was negatively impacting me when I ate sweets.
      That's my only objective.
      So, eating four a day achieves my objective.
      But somehow you want to tell me I should have your objective and your method?
      How bout no.
      Also, only morons say things like 'just have more will power'.
      It shows they have zero understanding of what will power is and think a person can just decide to flip a switch and bingo, more will power.
      Also, these morons love to equate the mechanics of how much will power a person does or doesn't have with some kind of moral evaluation. Again, showing their utter ignorance of how the human machine works physically, mentally, wilfully and even spiritually.
      A person may have great will power in many areas of life and not so much in some particular area. Here's a great example, you may be good at not eating four Grenade bars a day but you have zero self control when it comes to restraining your desire to insult your viewers and people who take time to comment on your videos. I mean, to be fair, that's both a lack of will power 'and' an actual moral failure on your part so I do get that it's a one-two punch of a challenge for you to be civil.
      But yeah, swings and roundabouts, I happen to eat 6g of sugar and 80 carbs a day over four Grenade bars Oooooooooh, I'm such a glutton. And you are prone to childish outbursts. We all have our failings don't we?

    You say the carbs give the same negative effect in each bar because mars is sugar and grenade is 'processed carbs' but if you look most of the carbs in a grenade bar are from polyols, maltitol to be precise, which has just over half the glycemic index of sugar so surely there will be some difference especially when referring to the blood sugar spike?

    • @thatgearguy
      @thatgearguy  11 місяців тому

      You would get less of a spike but polyols bring a host of their own issues. There is no such thing as a free lunch..

      Polyols are considered to elicit low glycaemic and insulinemic responses due to the incomplete absorption into the blood stream from the small intestine. They are also associated with lipogenesis inhibition as well as lower insulin production.

Other than a medical reason it really comes down to calories per day. I am eating 5 healthy meals per day to net around 3000 calories and maintain 90 kilos. How many meals do you consume? Do you have days you dont eat?
