  • Para Wetland is Nelson Marlborough's signature wetland, and one that has received considerable financial backing from the Game Bird Habitat Trust, alongside other funding avenues. The 122 hectare wetland between Tuamarina and Koromiko is the largest natural wetland in the region. Para Wetland is important because the region had lost 97 per cent of its original lowland freshwater wetlands over the past century as land was drained for farming.
Fish & Game have been restoring this wetland over the past few decades, and were recently entered into the Cawthron Marlborough Environment Awards. Check out this video featuring Marlborough Fish & Game Field Officer, Vaughan Lynn.
