I'm really diggin your channel. It's refreshing to see someone putting out this material without the clickbait and patreon and young youtube star junk. Your videos are very thorough and explanatory. I have a 1982 GL1100 Standard that my dad bought new and brought home when I was 7. I got it when my dad died in 1997. I still ride it and it's a beauty but I can see the flaws up close. Its due for a frame off restoration like your doing. Love to see those 1000 Goldwings. These are amazing machines that are more like a real motorcycle than the modern bikes with all the tupperware. Don't get me wrong. I have a 2022 Goldwing Tour with 15,000 miles. They are mile pounding machines but don't have that real motorcycle feel like these '70's and 80's machines. Anyway, I'm gonna get you some likes and comments so you'll keep on feeding us some more of this good restoration content and maybe get to monitize for your extra trouble filming as you go.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. The more likes and subscribes the better! Cool to hear you're still riding the '82 Wing :-)

After polishing, i use a paste wax the seal the pores and preserve the finish.

That's a great idea. Thanks for the tip!

Nice contrast between the fork legs. In regards to your bench grinder, a bigger wattage item will give you better results, and faster too as you need to get heat into the alloy for it to polish properly, just my 2 bob's worth. Enjoying your content, and looking forward to future uploads.

I'd really like a floor mounted dedicated polisher rather than the bench grinder to be honest so I don't have to keep swapping from the wire wheel/grinding disc/mops etc. Maybe I'll add one to my Christmas list!

Hi just found your video & really enjoying them. I have a 1978 GL1000 that hasnt moved for 14years (i know my shame). Im looking at getting it back up & running. The chrome mudguards, fork tubes & handle bars are now badly pitted, would it be possible to rechrome them? Also could you recommend somewhere for parts? Thanks in advance 👍

Hi and thanks for the comments! Yes of course they can be re-chromed, although it's an expensive job these days I'm afraid. The forks would need to be reground and then hard-chromed by a specialist. Might be cheaper to look for decent 2nd hand ones? It's difficult to suggest places to buy spares without knowing where in the world you are. In the UK I use David Silver Spares for Honda parts. I think they are in the US too. Ebay often has lots of parts for Goldwings. Also, try the various Facebook Goldwing groups, there's a lot of them! Goldwingdocs.com is a great resource for information on all things Goldwing related. Check out www.randakks.com/ as well, especially for carb kits. Good luck with getting yours back on the road!

I hope you realise all us other Gold Wing GL1000 owners will now be gingerly checking out the fork legs on our own bikes thinking they most likely need refurbishing!

Pure Acetone will remove the Factory Lacquer.
