The greatest generation knew who to depend on during a world wide crisis. May we find the same source of strength.

If America was like it is today in 1941, we'd never have had a chance at victory.

What a joy to hear Gracie Fields voice again and what could be more wonderful than to hear her sing The Lord's Prayer. Her amazing voice always gives me 'goose bumps'. I remember the years of WW11 very well and how she sang for our brave young men ane women. If we lived to be a hundred, we can never thank our Service men and women enough for their sacrifice, or Gracie Fields for all she meant to us and them during those years. LEST WE FORGET!

Absolutely gorgeous in the extreme! The way the servicemen and women instinctively stand up when it begins then bow their heads in reverence at the "Amen" is overwhelming! I believe our servicemen and women would do the same today, but sadly our society at large would probably be mostly offended. It shows what we've lost in the last 70 years!

Its very sad indeed I'm 85 so was only a child during the war, but remember the reverence with which people treated such occasions as armistice day etc. When the clock struck 11 o'clock you could have heard a pin drop, men removed their hats, people stopped their cars and stood at the side of the road, there was nothing more moving than hearing the crowd sing O God our help in ages past- now most of the crowd wouldn't know the words which I think is a great loss. It seems to me that we've spent the last 50 years trying to erase our own culture whilst happily allowing others to spread theirs. I'm sad to say I think you're right, today a lot of people would probably be offended by such expressions of faith etc.

Edward thank you! God bless you. I wish more people your age was using social media. We need you all! You are a valuable commodity that many of us love! I would love to know more about what happened in history in Britain and USA and all over! But I am afraid the real history are being rewritten and not for the good.
I miss seeing people stand up and give reverence to anything! I am 50 and I can remember we used to stand and say a pledge to our Country’s flag in grade school and we would even pray. And now days they are so disrespectful to anyone and there is nothing people will stand up for and show revenge to. It is so sad.

@@edward6960 That's exactly when it started, just over 50 years ago in the mid-60's that all the young began turning against their heritage. Many in the
Baby Boom generation abandoned the faiths in which they'd been raised, Protestant, Catholic and Jewish, began shacking up instead of marrying and having children out of wedlock. And we wonder at the chaos and bedlam of today.

@@edithpruitt5058 I went through Carlsbad Cavern in 1954 with my parents, then again in 1959 with a high school group from my church. When we reached that magnificent formation called The Rock of Ages deep within the caverns, the guides had the lights lowered, the men removed their hats and we all sang that beautiful hymn in unison just like we did in church. We were all strangers, but all had the same things in common. That custom was discontinued in the 60's.
