It's the music busines. For whatever reason, this great band did not get good promotion. Unfortunately, it matters. Leslie Dowdall's voice is beyond rare.
Saw In Tua Nua at Ibrox Stadium way back in June 86. Along with the Waterboys, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, Hipsway and Simple Minds. A truly magical day
Love this group. So underrated. I stumbled accross them by accident. I bought a joblot of cassette tapes and the album 'The long acre' was in there. Played it and absolutely loved it straight away.
Leslie Dowdall...what an amazing voice. What an amazing group assisting her, I listened to and shared "The Long Acre" CD with many a friend. Thank you for your music.
Wonderful song from an underappreciated album! I saw them in Chicago in the fall of 1988 with a crowd that the band said, at that time, was the biggest they had ever played in front of.
One of my all time favourite songs. Some day someone will re-release it and it will get massive acclaim. Should have been a bigger hit at the time. My all time top Irish song.
i did a cover of it in the 90s in the recording studio - it was before i had internet so i got a lot of the lyrics wrong - it wasn't one of my better efforts, my producer made it less hard driving and more laidback which i don't really like - my vocal was pretty good because i was guileless back then
I bought this record when it came out and helped it to number 69!! I heard Peter Powell play it on his Saturday morning show and have loved it ever since. What a DJ! What a record!!
I hear this and I go back in time. I have so many good memories from around the time this song was released. If I could do it all again, I would and I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for bringing back some really happy memories for me :)
I remember playing "The Long Acre" for the first time way back when after seeing the band on some late night TV show - played the album for weeks, endlessly. A few years I met a girl who knew who I was talking about when I mentioned the band - that was a first. "Don't Fear Me Now" remains my favourite song of theirs but this runs it a close second. Thanks for posting this - greatly appreciated.
Many thanks to you, Paul. I’ve loved this song since it came out (1988?) but never knew there was a video. Dang, they were gorgeous as well as talented. Shoulda been huge!
Oh wow... this takes me back. With all the techno and synthi-pop kicking around in '88 it was a breath of fresh air to have this diamond in my collection.
You don't need fancy computers, pyrotechnic effects and 'cheesy manufactured' wannabe celebs to make a hit record like this should have been. But most of the world disagrees. I am so grateful for finding this vid and superb recording of an 80's subversive classic. I absolutely agree this would be a hit now, but it should have been them as well. Great Song!!!!!
I've listened to this song everyday walking to work since 1989. I don't have many songs on my MP3 player. This is one of the best. P.S. Leslie Dowdall is so beautiful.
Milton Keynes bowl 1986 - brilliant concert and remember them performing, I was right at the front by the barrier, they were brilliant. Never understood why they didn't become huge.
I saw this band in 1988 at the old 9:30 Club in Washington DC. Got free tix and got backstage thanks to working at a good college record store. The band was great and very friendly. I always thought they should have been more popular. Luka Bloom opened up and he was great as well -- just a mic and a guitar.
Saw them at the Town and Country in Kensington (London) on 25 July 1988, opening for Crowded House. I remember she was so excited to be singing to the crowd. It was a great evening. For some reason a girl in the crowd asked me later during the Crowded House set if I was in the band In Tua Nua. It was Crowded House's last gig before flying off to Japan to continue the tour.
I saw them play with Luka Bloom at the 9:30 Club in DC back in 1988. That was one of the best shows I've ever seen! I really thought they would achieve much greater recognition than they have. In every record store I would look for their new work but never found any, and even the store record geeks had never heard of In Tua Nua. Of course, this was a long time before the advent of the web, so I couldn't find anything about them at all. But I never forgot them, and am so glad to have had that once-in-a-lifetime concert experience.
@whisky110 I remember it well, really hot summer that year and that night was thunder and lightning in Dublin and listening to this gig being broadcast on RTÉ radío 1.
Thanks for posting this ! There was an earlier posting without the video that disappeared from YT. Excellent quality audio and video too, technical kudos.
Wonderful song (and album)! First heard it in Boston (on WFNX-FM) in August '88 ... and then saw the band live in Chicago a few months later. Thanks for sharing!
It's a brilliant song from a brilliant band. If this song had been released even a few years later (during the 90s), I feel In Tua Nua would be a band on everyone's lips. Definitely ahead of their time. Now, if only someone would post the lyrics as there are a few lines I don't quite understand.
25 years ago today (6/6/86) In Tua Nua were the best band playing at Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow. Who else was there, oh yes, The Waterboys, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions and Simple Minds. No mean feat in the 'No Mean City' !
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I love this song sooooooo much!! I cannot believe I'm watching this now!! What a tune!! Thanks so much for posting, wherever you found this video from, you deserve a medal.
I have to say this is one of the greatest songs I have ever listened to. Why they never reached the fame they deserved kills me. They have all the right stuff so to speak. so incredible.. will be buying on iTunes and I am going to hound the shit out of the Voice producers to reintroduce this song. It deserves to be out there on top.
I found “The Long Acre” in among some old cassette tapes I had and I thought I’d look In Tua Nua up and found this song. I forgot how amazingly great it was and the video makes it even better. What a voice Leslie Dowdell has!
My wife introduced me to the band when we were talking about music she liked. She saw In Tua Nua in Dublin a few times with her sister. This song is fantastic, but even better as you can get two albums on iTunes (and the 2012 remaster). They are definitely a great band, not as recognised as they should be but to those of us who know them, hours of listening pleasure. Cool video : )
How the name of God am I only hearing this now and it released in the 80s? God knows I've heard plenty other stuff from Ireland far less worthy of this released.
Ah leslie wow.i remember this song well always thought it should have been massive great singer and talented musicians i really thought they had the whole package
My cousin is a good friend of Leslie's - the families were close for years. I remember being dumbstruck when I met Leslie (and her brother and Dad) at the cousin's one Christmas morning in the early 90s!
Love, love LOVE this band. "Innocent and the Honest Ones" kept me from going insane when I was growing up in a backwoods, heavily religiously-fundamental area of central california. Does anyone happen to have the lyrics to that song??? I'm dying to post the song and lyrics on FB, I know tons of people who've been damaged by religion who would embrace that song and it's message of spirituality.
@musicman89503 Never did see any groups perform there, we went there to hear & dance to the music that was being played at that time on WLIR in Garden City, L.I. N.Y.
@pcetra030965 I miss Club Malibu / The Loop. So many awesome bands that played there. I believe Club Malibu was U2's first stop on their first Untited States tour in 1980. Toadies in Connecticut was next. Joan Jett, Blondie, Apb...I could go on..... I also have this cd. "The Longacre"

All I wanted was for this to be the biggest band in the history of the world and for Leslie Dowdall to be the queen of everything.
She is the Queen of everything!
It's the music busines. For whatever reason, this great band did not get good promotion. Unfortunately, it matters. Leslie Dowdall's voice is beyond rare.

Weren't we spoiled with great music back then and didn't appreciate it . What a great country that produced great music.
God, this band was so underrated. What a great song. If it was released today it would create a huge buzz. Ahead of their time, for sure.
It would create another wave of New-Wave!
So true
Love this group. So underrated. I stumbled accross them by accident. I bought a joblot of cassette tapes and the album 'The long acre' was in there. Played it and absolutely loved it straight away.
Leslie Dowdall...what an amazing voice. What an amazing group assisting her, I listened to and shared "The Long Acre" CD with many a friend. Thank you for your music.
One of my most borrowed, and rarely returned, cassettes!
Brilliant! Takes me right back to the '80s when I was living in Dublin. So many memories of people and places associated with this song and this band.
Wonderful song from an underappreciated album! I saw them in Chicago in the fall of 1988 with a crowd that the band said, at that time, was the biggest they had ever played in front of.
Great music. Saw them at Ibrox in June 1986 with Simple Minds, The Cult and The Waterboys and Hipsway......Awesome, memorable concert.
In Tua Nua should have been as big as U2, Leslie has a beautiful voice what a talent
+Bernadette Hynes - Cafferkey why disdnt it happen?
Absolutely
Saw them in the show grounds in Ennis. Meat loaf played the same day, hard to believe now looking back. Great band.
the blades were another great irish band
To my mind they WERE big, it's just that most were to thick to see it. Glorious stuff.
You speak the truth
Love the Runestones in the background...
Oh boy do I love this song. Ireland had a lot of good bands and this lot were one of them
One of my all time favourite songs. Some day someone will re-release it and it will get massive acclaim. Should have been a bigger hit at the time. My all time top Irish song.

I wore this tape out listening to it on my Walkman in college. :)
i wore it out on a Walkman too the whole album!! :)
Absolutely brilliant one of Ireland's best bands still get shivers when I hear this song
She has a killer voice
The poorest richest../ famous Rock Band of the 80's ... !! loved them, we (Irl.) were better than we ever thought we were...
Some people just don’t see greatness even when it’s right in front of them
Remember them in Baymount Sligo New Years Eve in the 80s
My favourite song of theirs. Love it.
Many thanks to you, Paul. I’ve loved this song since it came out (1988?) but never knew there was a video. Dang, they were gorgeous as well as talented. Shoulda been huge!

32 years...that is a long time
Milton Keynes bowl 1986 - brilliant concert and remember them performing, I was right at the front by the barrier, they were brilliant. Never understood why they didn't become huge.
Same syndrome as Cactus World News and so many bands of this era.
Omg what a great time that was simple minds and the waterboys !!
Saw then at the Irish Centre Birmingham. Superb live.
I saw this band in 1988 at the old 9:30 Club in Washington DC. Got free tix and got backstage thanks to working at a good college record store. The band was great and very friendly. I always thought they should have been more popular.

Good
Awesome! I'll keep an eye on your tour tour dates. I'd love to come see you.
