Which forced induction legend would you drive home? 👇
No question for me, the F40. I can admire what the Bentley and Porsche brought to the table in their day, but the F40 is the only one of the 3 that still has performance that is within modern expectations.
@@iamtherealzombie Me, too. I love the 911, but the F40 was truly in a league of its own.
Oh the F40, hands down. I once had the honor and privilege of being ballast in one of a pair that raced at Mosport International Speedway, here in Canada. I was working as paddock security back in the late 80s and the crew asked for two of us to stay in the tent with the cars overnight. Me and another of the security staff (Dave), raised our hands and sat in the dark tent with those two beasts all night long. As thanks, the drivers took us for a lap of the track. No passenger seats... I am telling you... it was TERRIFYING!! But so wonderful at the same time. They are living, breathing animals who just want to be let free on the tarmac.
Obviously the Bentley!
Your channel is my favorite motoracing channel hands down. I love the fact that you are knowledgeable about the vehicles but you can also whip every one of them. 😊 you the man Ben. And always a class act. I don't get why you haven't got a series on Netflix. You would be better then top gear and all of Clarkson's nonsense and racism. You were the real talent on that show.
Everyone should drive a vintage like that Bentley at least once
They absolutely should. Nothing else like it
😮😅😊
What a beast!! Steering wheel looks like it might part ways at any stage though!! Brave man Mr Collins!!
we're all desperately trying! Trust Me!
I will gladly volunteer if someone is nice enough to lend me one, for an hour…or three! I have to agree, the driving experience is much better when you can smell what you are wrestling with!
I think more cars should have a wobbly steering wheel like in that blower Bentley! There would be nothing quite like a twine lined wobbly steering wheel to remind you of your own mortality every time you steered through a roundabout on your way to Tescos.
The Stig in an F40. What a combo!
I really enjoyed that car!
Love these videos! It’s impressive how you went from being the Stig and not having to talk behind the wheel at all to doing videos like this where you’re driving relatively hard and presenting like you’ve been doing it for 20 years, keep it up!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing Ben, ya know. I put you up there with Chris Harris for me as my favourite motorist journalist online. You are absolutely fantastic just speaking unscripted and driving the car and describing everything to make it feel like we're there. I can't believe how talented you are as a presenter as well as a driver.
For a racing driver, he talks real good!
What I wouldn't give to see a channel with Ben, Chris, and Randy Pobst reviewing cars and driving/racing them on road and track.
The F40 is pure perfection!
Yes it is!!
I love that 911 Turbo not only started the "turbo" trend, but the trend of Paint Turbo in giant letters on the side or back of the vehicle.
My old dad was a toolmaker/engineer/WW2 veteran/motorcycle racer. He said as kids him & his mates when they first saw supercharged cars they were absolutely amazed at the performance. It was a game changer.
The F40 was my dream car, I even had a toy of it, such an amazing artwork and an iconic car, it's not only a part of Ferrari's heritage but also the whole industry's heritage
Agreed!
Ive still got the toy. lol am I a hoarder ?
@@bourbonslurpeenah mate.
Why get rid of it?
Bloody Hell! That steering wheel on the Bentley could move around, in and out, and sideways in equal measure!! Amazing that anyone lived to tell their driving tale in that thing!
Made of chewing gum 🤣
Fantastic to see a car like the Bentley as a daily driver. What a testament to the quality of the build.
the flex on that Bentley's steering wheel!
You are doing a great job presenting these days. Engaging while still able to use "polar inetria" engineering nerds like me appreciate.
Haha I aim to please.
Superb, thoroughly enjoyed that! Great to have the take of a proper driver on these iconic motors.
Glad you enjoyed it.
It's amazing how timeless the F40 proportions and lines are.
The oily-looking Union Jack on the side of the Bentley was the icing on the cake...I don't know but it really made me smile 😁👍
Oh my god, those Fuchs wheels on the 911 are immaculate, the finish is freakin perfect! 🤤👌
The quality of production on your videos Ben remind me of dare I say it, old school Topgear . Your presenting has come on leaps and bounds
lol, what a living legend, Ben. Stig, and now you've got your own show. Keep it up man! Thoroughly enjoy your content. Do you ride motorcycles at all?
Love to see Mr. Collins back out here driving.
Amazing. The videos keep getting Better and they were Very good to start with
Glad you're enjoying so far!
That blower is beautiful and such a wobbly steering wheel. .
What a trio! Fantastic video 🙌
Three iconic cars.
Man, that Bentley looks just about perfect.
It just keeps getting better and better! Excellent presentation! Keep it up!
Just found your channel was a huge Stig fan. Glad to see you making content.
it was a treat seeing that old bently at Goodwood revival! how many miles has that car driven now, got to be close to half a million now.
These type of videos are the example of loving what you do in your life…Congratulations Ben awesome content!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Another great video from Ben 😊
Glad you enjoyed!
Just discovered this channel. What a treat to hear such in depth analysis on so many of my favorite cars.
Fantastic job Ben. Thank-you!
Thank you - which was your favourite ..?
@@BenCollinsDrives
So far, the RC90CK video is a standout for me since I’ve always been fascinated by those Group C monsters.
Would love to see you review one of the Holy Trinity hypercars. If you could get all 3 for a track test that would probably get a lot of attention.
I absolutely love that Bentley love it . But it pains me to say it, that Porsche looks like a snotty little ragermuffin compared to the F40...F40, a complete hyper go cart in the corners but feels so alive...a legend❤
Hi Ben. Three amazing cars. I love the Bentley Blower. I well remember the intoxicating whine of the VXR Bathurst on Top Gear. As Richard Hammond memorably said of the namesake track, a place for fighting where races occasionally broke out!
The VXR8 / Monaro was awesome - yeah the high pitch was something else
Oddly, I'm drawn to the Bentley more than the other two, not that I'd turn up my nose at the other two.
There is SOMETHING about that Bentley...
Hi Stig....Ben!! Tolis from Greece!
Congratulations for your great videos and great driving! If I could only have one car in the imaginary garage it would be the F40 !!!!
Some people say.... (Stig mode) that the F40 has more horses than the Ferrari says. I will say this. In 1992 I went with the Ferrari Club of Italy to the Ferrari factory ,where we also visited the production line of the F40. So there it had about 5-6 engines, which had just come off the dynamometer (Ferrari dynamometers them all as you know) and had the cards with the power e.c. that everyone took out! I remember it like it was yesterday!
So all the engines produced around 476 horses, except for one that produced what Ferrari says 478 horses. Little difference, but I was impressed! So it doesn't make more horses than what Ferrari says!
Thats great content, subbed
I love how wobbly the steering wheel in the Bentley is.
Yeah it's left/right and back/forwards 😂
I was waiting for it to come off the whole time.
Great video Ben the Bentley steering wheel looks like it's about to snap at anytime 🎉🎉
Now that im watching playback it does look that way …
Absolutely Mega.
Hope my driving skills approach 1/4 of Collins' some day.
And presents as well as he drives!
Cheers (:
I had hoped to one day own an F40. I might miss that mark but my love for it will be undeterred . Another mega video Ben !
I actually like the 930 the best, I yearned to have a red one all through my teenage years. Not sure about the decals on that one but its lovely to see one.
All three of those are sensational cars though, thanks for the video Ben.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Flat plane crank V8, these and TVR Cerbera sound similarly amazing
That was wonderful.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
This channel has become my number one for car content.
You've found your 2nd calling Ben. The books not bad either.
Glad to hear!
My friend Howard at Kent Paints had an all black 4 speed 930 turbo, I thought it was the fastest thing after my '72, 2.4 911T... Delightful.
The supercharger on that Bentley sounds particularly hilarious, like you're getting a long dental cleaning.
Ben...beautiful...great content...keep it coming...comment...drop the Top Gear references old and gone....
Great video, thanks and keep them coming.
To me the Bentley, the only car you can actually use and enjoy - I am going to be the odd one here, I do like the F40, but I'd have a 288 GTO everyday over it.
Great channel Ben!
Much appreciated!
Ben what a beautiful video man take us Americans to another place somewhere happy in our vicious times here in the states thank you for this amazing content
Interesting trio of automotive history.
Very interesting indeed!
Looks like the Bentley has Dual Axis Steering.
Not a bad day at the office eh Ben? Haha. Great video as always, really enjoying the content
I've had worse days...
Other 18 year olds such as myself don't see the joy or point of older cars such as the 930 and F40.. but I absolutely adore them, every game that has one I have probably had one at some point, beautiful works of art that will never be recreated, it's a shame that everything is becoming electric so you won't hear the roar of a NA or turbocharged car much longer. It's a shame but that's what the world wants to call "The future", I've got posters of old cars such as the F40, 930, Beetle, VW bus, 05 Ford gt and more.. I'd love to own one eventually
The electric craze will fade. Already car manufacturers and governments all over are seeing that EVs can't hope to replace ICE at this point in time. In 50 years who knows? But for now, ICE is here to stay.
Nice and educational.
Glad you think so!
That Bentley 😍
Something special isnt it.
Yes Ben I expect you would like to drive the blower Bentley down French back roads.. a little bit of Anlgeterre intimidation comes to mind...yeah definitely been hanging out with Clarkson too long. 😂😂😂😂
F40 in black....😎
The steering wheel in the Bentley, is that the biggest steering wheel fitted to any car?
Can't be far off 👀
You're a natural presenter ben
Thanks!
I have been fortunate to drive '76 Turbos in the late Eighties. Snap oversteer if wet and if you were too aggressive on the throttle.
And the Brakes were awful
Discs the size of Boot Polish lids.
The Brakes didnt improve until the cross drilled floating discs from '79
But the shape of the original '76 Turbo Carrera I think is the best.
Looks great.
If you actually had to drive it around a lot, I'd say the Porsche. For a one-time experience, or to own, the F40 hands down, but that Bently sure looked like a load of fun to own if you can fix it yourself.
Do i remember correctly, that you raced a Bentley at Goodwood Revival?
I visited for the first time this year (im from denmark) - and what an experience.
The Bentleys looked very slow compare to the 911s that had just been on track, but definitely impressive for the period
22hr old video, 1k likes & zero dislikes - says it all, really! Awesome content as always.
You should check out AbCar Oldtimers from Poland. They make Bentleys brand new today. Amazing job, as Beltley intended almost century ago.
Really wonderful to see an old Bentley driven the way it should be on track.
It loved it!
Best motoring in Japan, did a review on this and it had 520 brake horsepower
What's the compound of the Bentley's tires? Especially compared to the original tires?
The F40 really reminds me of my old 924 Carrera GTS, sold it in 1989 for .....I dare not say
Remember about 8 of us travelling back from the skatepark one night. Word had got around that an f40 was in a showroom in Cardiff. That was it. A 15 min diversion off the m4 to then have all of us open mouthed staring at this thing through the window.. God knows what the security guard thought of us, but I don't know of any other car to have that effect on a group of mates like that.
This is Top Gear: Ben Collins version
That Bentley was epic!...but why so much positive camber on the front wheels?...I read it is supposed to help stability on uneven surfaces...is that why?
Ok so here we have a Ferrari F40 driven by the Stig him self( could possibly add value to the car)
That Bentley looks like it's the size as a truck. looks fun
It's definitely a challenge to drive. But once you're rolling, so much fun.
Ettore Bugatti liked to call these Bentleys the world's fastest lorry. Must have been a bit envious of their performance.
They all looked awesome. The Bentley looked fantastic to drive, though it has to be the Porsche for me.
Good choice!
Amazing Cars for the Location , Near Bicester ?
That Bentley is so quintessentially British.
But I've currently got an Alfa Romeo Mito turbo , no lag whatsoevr , She just sits her ass down and takes off . Not hugely powerful at 155 hp , but for a man at 70 it's just fine
When the “holy trinity “ will be invited into this spectacular show?😅
Anyway, my respects and love for all the creators and participants of this ✊🏻🫡👍🏻
nice💯💪
Thanks 🔥
523P is the final sequence used in the name of character Kryten of the series Red Dwarf.
I wonder if this is a clue to the owner?
How did driving the Bentley compare to the Aston Martin 1.5 litre? Similar era, but very different approaches. I would love to hear your thoughts.
Another great episode. You are a natural.
Thank you Ben.
"The King of Cool"...
Regards
Tony
Thanks again!
I believe porsche were the first to use nickel silicone carbide or nikasil for short in 1967 on there race cars.
That Bentley looks fantastic to drive, ive driven karts slower than that.
It's AWESOME.
Funny how 2 different car aficionados have opposite opinions of the F40. Harry Metcalfe thinks they're rubbish. I think Harry might be more along my way of thinking... certainly when you factor in the cost of them😮
Wasn’t the F40 the last one Enzo was involved with developing?
Waking up late 80s turbos is a risk. All v8s walked 2 lengths on the street against my 87 Buick gn, but when the turbo spools it looks like they jammed the brakes.
Which one would you choose Ben?
10:54
I had no idea that Chandler was such a good driver.
The steering wheel on that Bentley looked a bit loose!
Sorry, but spoked wire wheels are not artillery wheels, which had spokes which were mitred into the hub and were often made of wood.
Videos that make me sad I’m not wealthy 😢😂!
When I was young in primary school, a very rich family dropped their sons at school in a Blower Bentley. At the time I had no idea what it was, just thought it was a cool old car. Only now do I realise how insanely expensive and cool it is. That family also had a giallo 246 Dino, a DB5 Aston, a Bristol 403 and a very original Mazda Capella.
Seriously cool car for the school run.
@@BenCollinsDrivesIt was an eccentric choice of car for the school run for sure. Even more so for an Australian (who wasn't born in the UK) still wore tweed and spoke with a British accent. 🤣
Brian Johnson drives his to the shops regularly
He does!
I had a Bentley Blower on my curtains as a child
I'd choose the Bentley every day of the week.
If I had a choice it would be the Bentley
