    Great video. Showing the internals of a real one would help us know what to look for.

    Thanks for the info! I have an original KMS-105 but with damage grille.
    Do you think that one of a fake one fits on the original one?
    I’m planing to buy a fake one just for to get the grille (way cheaper than a original grille)
    Thanks in advance!

      Yes - they could - the threads are a little more delicate on the Neumann - but for the price, it would be worth trying I think.

      You do not have to spent lot of money for the grille A copy made in China is being sold for $65/- on E Bay.

    A side by side comparison with an authentic KMS105 via sound test & measurement might be a bit more meaningful. Comparing fakes is a puzzling approach.

      Totally agree - but a serious high ticket price and still quite uncommon Neumann handheld vs all the cheapo copies would only prove what we know. I figured the important thing was that there are horrible and sort of OK copies, but none that could be easily confused with a real one - unlike say, 58's.

      Indeed is does - as not every 0,0002 second break in narration was edited out, the narration was not digitally "forced marched" to a breathtaking trot, we were not arbitrarily cut from one webcam to another just because an "ahm" or "..err" was edited out and the "producer" thought change of the camera angle was needed, were were not cut to an image / POV showing the side of the presenter's head, while the presenter was talking to a wrong camera, there were not "seams" of omitted bits shown on-camera with the result of the presenter's head and body momentarily jumping to another position like the person had been jolted with an electric shock - and so on --- So indeed, it DID look like it had been recorded in the 1990's - when video shooting was still mostly done by professionals and not teenagers having a webcam & hyped up attitude and appearance gotten from guzzling down umpteen Red Bulls prior to and during shooting and editing, and having no deeper understanding of audio and video production, human visual and audial neuropsychology and a myriad of other rather relevant issues. Woe begone are the good old days! 😝
      What I would criticise in this video is neither the video shooting or editing style, nor the presenter, but the fact that buying counterfeit sh1t is not a terribly good move. 🤦‍♂

    Great fun. Thanks for the demonstration. Only the first example is usable - the other two are not. I would use them as donor bodies for my own mic build projects, installing a different capsule and circuit board for around $20US /16 Quid UK. I really appreciate the photos of the internal circuit boards. That says a lot. I find it interesting the first model does not appear to have an FET on the circuit board, so I presume the FET is built into its capsule. The other model with the red circuit board appears to have an FET, so it may have an FET-less capsule. USUALLY, but of course not always, capsules with an FET inside are not as good as those without one, relying on an FET on the circuit board - so I am intrigued by the fact the firs tone sounds OK, while the second two are pretty bad. Surely the first one is the best one of the lot. Thanks for the demo. TT

      sadly, it will sound like any of the other cheap condenser mics - probably usable, but if you want warm, detailed and silky results, it won't do the trick - the originals are lovely - I've used them many times, but my hire stock won't feature them. Not cost effective.

      Why on Earth would you support counterfeiters? If you can't afford a genuine KSM 105, you can get great hand held condenser mics from reputable manufacturers such as sE electronics, Audio-Technica or Shure, for the same price you'd pay for these fakes, or even cheaper.

    Some of my gear was stolen last week, and among them was my KMS105. I found a brand new one for a good price, and oh surprise, when I arrived at the gig I was playing, I insert it in my usual mixer channel where the robbed KMS was plugged, and with the same settings, I got a lot of Larsen and à continue low frequency sound. I couldn’t work and I took a spare Shure mic to do the gig. When I got home I did a research and found out that there were fake KMS 105 out there, something I didn’t know, and the video was explaining how to spot the differences. My copy ticked all the boxes , it was clearly a fake ! And this showed directly as soon as plugged it in the mixer ! I’ll returned it back tomorrow and will order a new one and not one « at a good price » 😊

      The snag now is that this happens quite often - a festival last year had Beta 58s, at soundcheck they sounded a bit 'thin' - we swapped them for our rather tatty Beta 58s and there was an instant difference. The hire company had bought lots - all dodgy ones!

    I seriously wish the clone makers would just use their own name on them. Many of the "clone" mics perform OK for the money. I've bought clone mics as UNBRANDED and have been happy with them. In the US, many of the counterfeit mics are blocked by customs. I've not tried to buy "high end" mics from china, but many of the VERY affordable mics I've bought from overseas have performed respectfully for the price.

    • @eastanglianradio
      @eastanglianradio  2 роки тому

      I TOTALLY AGREE! Many are perfectly good mics on their own standing. I suppose somebody works out how many they will sell with one brand vs another.

    • @MrArtVein
      @MrArtVein Рік тому

      Same. If you got the money it's worth looking into you can just tell the engineers what specs you want and slap your name your mic

    Are there any fake KMS104 or are all the fakes KMS105?

    • @pauljohnson4590
      @pauljohnson4590 Рік тому

      I have never seen any KMS104 microphones from Chinese suppliers - it seems a genuine only model.I've also looked on the usual supplier sites and double checked - I can see plenty of the average and awful 105 model - mostly silver but a few black versions, but no 104 models at all.
