I’m a full time instacart worker and I used to work for Uber and Lyft until it was soo dead at the airport that I needed to find an alternative job like instacart. Thank god I took that chance cuz it changed my life . I paid all my bills and invested a lot
Fantastic!!
I quit my job at the post office and it was the best thing I ever did . Being your own boss and making insane amounts of money makes me happy
What about medical insurance?
Wow. The post office has good benefits. Unless you are a sub carrier, which i was doing, then i guess it would be ok to quit. Which i did, too
@@bmanley2005 if you luck out and get hired fulltime it's great from what I'm told but you are going to have a hell of a time attempting that if your say over 25 cause its seniority based and very easy to draw short straw and be waiting a very long time to get anywhere. It's why I dipped during the interview myself.
That was a dumb move you could’ve just done this as side gig loll
@@kimmyymmik wow that was like 2 years ago
I make average $1500 a week and average 25 to 30 hours a week I do this full-time and I am very disciplined actually I get up at 5 AM every single day because the earlier you get out the better batches you get I would never go back to a normal job I love being self-employed are used to make $1200 a month being a manager somewhere in a small town and then I moved to Washington and it is completely changed my life my car is paid off it gets amazing gas mileage it’s got low mileageAnd I’m able to save a ton of money
That great! I see no reason to change directions if it’s working well for you.
Danielle Mitchell careful cause you can be deactivated
Thank you steph!! You’re videos helped me when I first started with insta. Point pickup has worked really good for me too
Great Video, Steph. 👌 Thanks for the info.
I am in college and got fired from my job as a host.. Instead of looking for a new job I doubled down on gig work because at my old job I was getting paid $14/hr and they would only giving me 2 shifts a week resulting in my paycheck being like $150 every two weeks. It was insulting and now I am trying to become my own boss and be able to have discipline and create my own schedule and stick with it since one day I want to be an entrepreneur. I have $1,000 in credit card debt and starting this week I am going to make it a goal to earn $60 a day, which in my area isn't too hard.. I think only 5 batches at the most. I am going to pay off my debt then use the money to build a business and use the skills I have learned in gig work and being my own boss. Wish me luck!
Became full time gig worker In January after I graduated from college my husband works at a regular job so insurance is covered I’m pulling between 25 and $30 an hourI also live in a college town now
At least you're one of those people who know what to do with your time. Stay safe👌
Hi Kaylee! Are you still doing gig work full time? Just curious!
@@tifflynch4016 yes but I also do couponing and I try to have a balance
@@KayleeSavesMoney Good for you. You go girl!
Spectacular video! Spot on!
I live in centennial. Glad I found your channel
I made over $35,000 working for instacart since April when the pandemic started . I’m good
That’s impressive!
Do what makes you happy. 🔥
NICE JOB!
$35,000?? Nice but Instacart won’t last. They have so many problems.
Girl I Signed up with Kaver, I’m in tucson,Az so I just added Zones near the city 2 hrs away each way like pueblo Co.. to denver. Thank you for your videos.
Oh cool! That’s a good amount of distance to cover!
new subscriber here. keep up the amazing videos my friend. i drive for uber pt.
I subscribed tonight. I am not working. I almost thought about being a lyft driver
Great points Steph!!!
Why thank you! Are you full time gig work or planning to be?
No, thankfully I have a full time job. We can go to work somedays or work from home. I did Uber and Lyft full time a couple of years back. I absolutely loved it, but with all this going on, (in my opinion) I couldn't see myself doing this again. I realize that some people simply do not have a choice in the matter and must drive or do gig work to make ends meet. I have lots of respect for you and them. Keep working at it!!
If you are burned out with the corporate world - Drama, gossip, narcissistic bosses, bullies, negative energy etc. etc. AND if you like Driving... I think it’s a great move. Definitely outside the box, but who says the rat race is the best way to go.
The primary thing threatening a gig career is technology - self driving cars but Yet we still need humans to delivery services - fast food, groceries etc.
I understand - if your not making enough doing a gig b/c of the area you live then it just isn’t viable as a work option. But if your in a major city with a big population there is a lot of demand. You can make good money. There are other pros too like freedom, schedule, flexibility, variety in your routine, less stress. It just depends where your at I your journey. If you don’t mind not having co-workers and not having a 9-5 schedule there’s a lot of upside.
Hi Steph I've been a subbie for a couple of weeks and your channel motivated me to register to work with Cornershop that is the first delivery service we have here in Quebec/Canada. We do not have Instacart or Shypt here. With respect to doing gig work full time I would say its the same principle of having ONLY ONE stream of income... its very risky .... even if its having a 9 to 5 and only relying on that its risky.... look what Corona did where people were laid off and businesses closed or went bankrupt.... I've been doing Cornershop full time for about 2 weeks now and I can say that full or part time the money is not bad at all, because here in Quebec a lot of corporate jobs don't pay a lot of money. My personal goal its to have 2-3 streams of income. I do freelance in social media management and administrative support and Cornershop will be something that I will definitely keep part time when my business takes off and I have other income. Thanks for so much great content Steph !!!
You’re very right. I was mainly focused on gig work being unstable but any job can be. Hooray for multiple income streams! Good luck with your business endeavors. 😊
@@StephOnThePedal Yess girlbosses doing it !!! Lets get that money !!!
Ha, I've been watching your videos since you started about a year ago but haven't dipped my toe in yet. I've been looking at early retirement and doing gig work part time for a few years to supplement my income. Luckily, my job has been stable through all this. I've been in the same business for 31 years but can't see doing it for another 5-10.
Thanks for sticking with me! It means a lot! I feel like gig work would be perfect for your specific circumstance. Make sure you try a few out before going all in. Good luck!
I'm working full time 9-5 (still have my day job) and doing instacart/cornershop from 5-9. The pandemic has stunned my photography business so I had to resort gig work to cover that loss income.
In Norfolk, VA., Lyft keeps me busy now as compared to before the virus. Bonuses are edging down but you can gross $150 in five hours with ride streaks every other hour. Wouldn't want to be in Cali with the uncertainty, but it could happen anywhere!
Yah, I feel really bad for California. That would be very stressful. ... but $30 an hour is great!
I know so many people swapping to rideshare full time. It just seems like one of the better options for right now during this whole virus situation. Making $200-250 per day isn't bad. Obviously, subtract gas and maintenance, but still will definitely get you by for the most part.
I think I’m going to keep rideshare/delivery gigs as a side hustle. I feel like I have less control over demand in the side gigs, but demand for my labor from my full-time gig is relatively stable. Of course, neither are guaranteed!
I keep my side gig to make extra money. My full-time job is good. However, If my side gig had the same benefits as my full-time job, I would keep it. 🔥 As long as it has job security.
Steph, what an excellent video. I would never leave my job for gig work. Nothing is set in stone in corporate america, BUT, health benefits alone is a deal breaker for many people. Gig work is fantastic for savings and had i known this a few years ago my lide would be so much different, but its never late to starts, right?
That’s right! Pad that savings if you can! 😊
thanks for info on klover. I will defintely look into it. Is this tax write off? thanks again
I have a full-time job with a school and I just started gig work in the summer to basically get out of the house after my son had got me into it when he started doing instacart so thought I'd give it a go as well but I don't see me leaving my job at the school since I get benefits.I would definitely keep doing gig work on weekends and holidays to supplement my income and earn extra money and weekends I definitely wouldn't quit my job to do gig work full time. Anyways kover seems like a great afforadable resource. I'm gonna try it
You sound like a smart woman! Do you and your son do it together or do you work separately?
That's a great idea but we live in different cities because he's was going to school in another city. 😂
Good Insight. I've been debating this for quite some time now. Still caught between both worlds but loving supplementing with Gig work right now.
Probably gonna give Kover a shot, seems like a low risk pretty good deal! !
Indeed!
I LOVE GIG WORK!
Every hard to save money with gig work. The gas, and wear and tear is really tough. Stressful gig work: Instacart and Shipt. Easiest: Food Delivery by far.
Kover sounds cool I might check it out
lol!
I would say its possible to do rideshare full time on a short term basis(say in between looking for a actual fulltime job) but ultimately at some point you will end up at a financial net loss that makes ultimately come out worse then you did when you start.
Lighting looks great in this video. Backing yourself into a corner never looked so good.
Hahah... wow! Thank you I think.
There is burn out too. If you only do gig work on the weekends and then quit your main job to do gig work full time you can burn out quick. I did rideshare heavily for a week and realized I couldn't do it full time.
I think it’s important to keep in mind that these things can help on a resume IF your job search takes you to service industries. Uber driver with 1000trips and a 4.99 rating.. I mean that shows a lot about your willingness to set yourself aside for customer service..
That’s a good point. However, I do think it depends on the customer service job you’re looking for. The competition for a bartending job, at a well established bar in Denver, is intense. Employers can be very snobby when looking at where you worked previously. I personally feel like listing Uber, even with my high rating, would have really hurt me in my search.
I love your videos. Thank you for posting this one in particular. I quit my full time job to spend some more time at home with my family as it was needed for the time being. I picked up doing instacart and shipt on the side to earn a little income while still allowing me the flexibility I needed.. however... I would NEVER consider doing gig work full time. The income is waayy too variable...and the amount of gas and miles is not worth it to me. I’d say it’s good to get you by for the meantime if you need it. But I agree with you 💯... it’s not a guaranteed job.
Also, the batches sometimes are not worth it to me. Batches that are over 60 items and it only pays $8??? And it maybe the only batches available for you to grab.. And it’s not guaranteed the customer will tip. Really ask yourself.. is it worth it chasing $8 batches to make a full time living? $8 is less than minimum wage in most areas. Just my thoughts... 😊
Thank you! I know a lot of people can make it work, but that is a really bad batch. I don’t think I’ve seen anything that low. Where are you?
I’m in Florida. I see these types of batches a lot for Shipt... especially after they changed the pay scale. I seen a lot of people make it work as well... I think I’m just bad at it lol
If you doing gig work you will need to include your daily car payment, gas, insurance and of course wear and tear. Deduct these figures and then you arrive at your net daily income. Divide the net by the amount of hours worked,
i enjoy doing gig work. i multi-app though. nothing is ever guaranteed and sadly most of these companies way overhired and now they still have too many people working even though demand is down considerably. For me i am married, so my husband has the insurance with his traditional job. my job helps pay for upkeep on my car, stuff and bills for the kids and dogs, and then some occasional fun and savings. i am not sure how someone would count on this for sole income for surviving. there are just too many variables. you can get deactivated at any time for things taht may or may not be your fault. demand. pay going down? I love doing it but am thankful that i dont have to be sole breadwinner to try to survive on this.
I think gas, oil changes, car repairs, and taxes are the only variable costs you can calculate or deduct - into arriving at your true hourly wage with gig jobs because those are the only real costs it takes to do gig work (Revenue - Cost = Profit)If you work a 9-5 salaried position, do you take car payment, insurance, into consideration. Those are fixed costs you have anyway no matter the job. We just look at those expenses as part of our overall monthly budget. It gets hairy too because you can deduct mileage, car maintenance, oil changes, and other car expenses at tax time, so is it really accurate to drive down your gross hourly average when in reality those costs provide a decent kick back at tax time. I like to just focus on what did I make today divided by hours worked (Gross). I realize $32/hr isn’t really my average. In reality it is less. Same thing with a corporate job - $50k salary breaks down to 24/hr but that’s gross not net. Plus you are capped at $24/hr. I don’t like having a ceiling or sitting inside at a computer all day - that’s boring!
No Health Insurance is the biggest downside to gig work though. Car Depreciation is another but if you drive a compact car or mid size sedan with good mpg, the trade off is worth it. If you drive something luxury, an SUV, or high end yeah it’s probably not worth it to you b/c you will drive it into the ground That’s just a given.
I am a full time instacart shopper. I retire from the Richmond City Sheriff's office on Sep. 1 of last year I have been doing instacart for about 9 1/2 months. My income average was about $450.00 a week in Richmond, VA and about $250. 00 a week in Salisbury North Carolina. The number of batches and tips went down in my current area. I would say that gig work will only supplement your income and not be a sole source due to the inflix of work avaialble. You will have to work mutiple gigs in order to keep making money now. Just my experience.
I feel like gig work could be a great option for retirement. That’s a drastic difference in pay between the locations. The market you’re in really makes a difference! Thanks for sharing your experience. Hopefully things turn around in your area.
@@StephOnThePedal Thanks I feel that the bigger city that have stores like publix, wegmans will generate more tips. If I venture out to Concord, or Charlotte, my pay would defintely increase. Good luck with your photography business 👍👍
I think you’re right about the bigger cities. Thank you!
Made 400 a week with grubhub but then a year after singing only made 100 to 200 a week so I got my cdl now drive a school bus cause I love driving
I believe gig work is only for starting and funding a different business venture.
It can pay your bills.
Neverrr im actually goin back to work a regular job because of low demand
kover sounds good but will they deliver when you need any of their services? no ratings or stories anywhere?
They actually have great reviews!

I reached out to Kover to find out how long a claim would take. This is their response: “We’ve had success processing at max 2 business day AFTER the claim has been approved!”
Kover is a new company. That’s likely why you haven’t heard stories about them. Honestly, I was skeptical at first too, because I had never heard of them. So I totally get it. I had to do my own digging to feel comfortable with them.
I only work nights.. 10pm-6am(regular job). I recently signed up for Doordash and something called Waitr and this will be my first time trying anything like this. I'm only going to try it on my days off at first. Gonna be interesting.
Nice! I hope it treats you well. I’ve actually never heard of Waitr. I would guess that the more well known apps will be more consistent, but it doesn’t hurt to try them out. Good luck!
@@StephOnThePedal Waitr was started in Lake Charles, LA. It's not everywhere yet. Mostly southeast and I'm in south Alabama.
Ahh I gotcha!
I started insta cart in July and only tried it a couple of times. Wasn’t getting good batches at all. Only made $90 for the 2 days. I live in NJ, a busy area too. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’ve watched all your videos. Your tips worked for me but the batches I get are so low and far away. Maybe it’s my area.
Oh boy. Maybe you should try going for a drive into a different area one day. If I drive 30 minutes from my location it gets much better. It could be worth a shot.
I should. It’s trial and error. It’s frustrating at times. I can see how it can be worth it too so I just have to keep trying. Your videos helped so much. Thank you 🙏 for all the advice.
You’re welcome! Hopefully you can find your groove. Best of luck!
Any information you can give me to help me and others . Thank goodness 😅
How old do i need to be to drive for lyft?
how much does the youtube make?
If everybody wants to do it, the market might get flooded. Work might get scarce, and the driver apps won't really care. 🤔. Referral bonuses $.
This is something that I have been thinking about. I have been doing Shipt for 7 months. I avg $1850 per week and work 45-48 hours a week. My wife carries our health insurance. I finished my Masters degree, I have no interest In Wearing a tie for half the money!!
Hey, if it works it works! A spouse with health insurance is wonderful! Do what makes you happy. Have you signed up with IC too?
Steph On The Pedal no I haven’t. This gig thing was and is all new to me. IC isn’t as big here. I think it’s because this is Target’s home turf. Any given hour there is a couple hundred orders open in my metro. My zone can have 10+ max pay promos in an hour. It’s incredibly busy, so the thought of a second gig hasn’t crossed my mind yet.
UBER: Spend what little money you earn on gas and auto repairs while driving your car to an early grave.
i quit my retail job recently due to not feeling safe during covid. customers didn't respect the whole "personal space" thing and the business i worked for wasn't taking it seriously. i am now doing instacart. i just don't really want to start a new job until covid is more under control so who knows how long that will be. i love it right now, i'm so independent. but i also can't see myself doing this when i'm 40-50 years old. (i'm 26 right now...) i'm nervous about updating my resume. /: that's my only concern. do employers really look down on you if "instacart/gig work" is on your resume?
Gig work has surely saved a lot of people during the pandemic. I’m so glad it’s working out for you! I’m sure it depends on the employer. Look at it this way, a lot of people were misplaced in the work force due to Covid. I would expect employers to be more forgiving of a blip on your resume during this time period. Maybe it would be a good idea to make a note of it on your resume when you go to update it. You could also sugar coat it. Call it freelance work.
What I would personally do is call it freelance work and then describe it with a few bullet points such as personal shopper. That actually sounds fancy. Lol
@@StephOnThePedal great idea! i should definitely talk it up a bit. i'll probably research good ideas when the time comes. i think this pandemic has changed the work force a lot. so who knows, maybe employers won't think much into it!
I just signed up with kover....if I litterally waited one hour I could have to used your link :/
Oh, no worries! I hope it works out well for you. :)
I’m still making good money for instacart. I used to make $2800 a week back then , now just $2000 a week. I’m investing into crypto and hoping my investments 1000x in the next 5 years and retiring off instacarts money
omg wrud
I died.

@@StephOnThePedal Well I'm glad you're okay. Don't you go dyin on me!
Rideshare
You’re full time rideshare?
I was full time in Austin for 2 years. Uber and Lyft were constantly flooding the market. So good money became bad money. And yes don't put Uber lyft on your resume
That’s a bummer! Do you drive at all anymore or did you totally walk away from it?
Drive for recreation. That's it. So 30 bucks a day is good.
Eesh. You should try a different gig!
I’m a social worker but “working from home” currently so I just do gig work all day basically when I get bored 🤷♀️ it’s really just to have extra income and pay off debt. If I really worked my ass off I could make quite a bit but no benefits is what really puts the brakes on that thought for me. I have about 6 different apps but they aren’t as stable as when the a pandemic first started. Plus it’s 116 in AZ right now - I was thinking today if it was winter here I would LOVE it, right now it’s not a lot of fun in this heat!
The heat is killer! I’m crying over 90 degree days. 116 is unfortunate!
Damm u look stunning today
I’m finding that Fetch sucks. Using my Instacart reciepts and I might earn one $50 gift card a year? Am I missing something?
I mean, it won’t get you rich. Do you try to scan receipts with high point items? Also, get people to sign up under you when they have extra referral incentives.
Steph On The Pedal oh ya, the bonus items is where it’s at. I retract my previous statement. About 6 weeks for my first $50 card. Thanks!
Yes you did! Oh hello🖕have a wonderful day
What cracked me up the other day I come across a video (not yours) that titled something like "make over $100 a day in rideshare". I thought to myself ok $100 is not squat! Takeout $-15to20 for gas, food or drinks when your out -$10, taxes about $-15, which equals $60-$65 for the day. Can't live off that. Didn't get the point of that vid.
You definitely have to consider expenses when doing this work! ... but $100 is great if you’re only working a couple of hours. I’m certainly guilty of not breaking down expenses or even talking about them in every video, but I hope that most people are doing the math on their own.
Isn't ride share a gig job? Why do you refer to them as two separate things?
Lol... I don’t know. I would consider rideshare a gig too, but I feel like some people classify it separately. Maybe I’m wrong on that.
@@StephOnThePedal I wasn't saying you were wrong. I was just confused. It was still great information!
Maybe I’m confused too. Lol
"What are your future plans?" Depends on if you're married.
Hahah!
@@StephOnThePedal you got me doing postmates hoping i meet someone that works for a living.
I dont think anyone should plan on doing gig work for more than 5 yrs. Most of the reason I say this is because none of these apps are earning enough money for them to have a long future.
I totally agree.
@@StephOnThePedal i appreciate your responding.
POV: you're checking to see if Steph is posting 10 days in a row like she promised last week
Shhh.... lol
