    This was also a preservation technique. Fruits were cooked, placed in a jar, the boiling syrup was poured over them, lid went on, the jar was placed top down and let cool, then you had delicious fruit for the winter.

      Yes, I remember jars of preserved fruit. I've used figs and it works well and the figs preserve for years.

    Just tried some apples in syrup this evening from the refrigerator after following your method a few days ago. I was completely bowled over by this! So refreshing and flavorful!

    I'd have reduced that syrup a little more for a stronger taste. Or use it for another dessert. Yum!

    And don't throw out that syrup. Use it to sweeten hot or cold tea, or use it in mixed drinks!

      If you have the time, you can reduce it down a fair bit before pouring it over the pears.

    You used 1/2 liter to let pears soak, and 1/2 liter of water to dissolve sugar?

  • @noname-el3pr

    FAILURE: My attempt at poached pears failed: THEY MUST BE RIPE before cooking: HEAT DOES NOT RIPEN PEARS. Long stewing does not soften them, it just loosens the fibers and leaves them grainy. I used the poached unripe pears in a puree instead for a smoothie.

    On a side note. I have tried signing up for the news letter several times. It keeps telling me I need to use a valid email address. I get 10 to 20 emails a day not counting spam. It is valid. Tried using all upper case and lower case letter. ?

    in video: 500ml water + 200 gr sugar. In recipe: 1 liter water + 500 gr sugar. so confused

    • @aidanclarke6106
      @aidanclarke6106 4 роки тому

      It doesn't really matter. Start with 200 gr for 500 ml, taste it and add more sugar if you like

    • @Kahlimdor
      @Kahlimdor 4 роки тому +1

      It is roughly half the amount of the water. Don't get to caught up in the recipe, what's more important is the method. Then you can try your own syrup, perhaps you like it more sweet or less, so don't be too attach to the recipe.
