Sherpa actually recommends NOT using any silicone. Applying silicone the way you guys did actually worsens the seal. The whole point of their rubber foot spacers is that it creates a flat, molded seal between the rack and the roof line when the bolts are tightened down. By putting silicone around the holes you're creating another layer between between the roof line and the rubber. The silicone will flatten out as it's compressed and over time with temperature changes it will harden and create dead space and a void between the rubber and roof line. Making it even prone to water intrusion. I would suggest removing the roof rack, get rid of the silicone and reinstall the rack per Sherpa's instructions.
Okay thanks that’s good to know! Il probably try and take it off, luckily I didnt use much. I was going off a buddies suggestion but I guess I should have double checked!
@@LoganKingMedia No problem, I can see why your friend recommended silicone. Most other racks say to use silicone because they use aluminum barrel spacers as the foot. Sherpa specifically designed a rubber foot pad so that the user does not have to apply silicone. For reasons mentioned above, silicone isn't appropriate to seal the roof rack as it hardens over time and degrades. If you want to apply silicone you can put a small dab into the bolt holes but I would not apply any where the rubber footpad sits.
How's your Sherpa rack holding up ? Any rust or bolts coming loose? Thinking about swapping my JW out for one. My powder coat is failing after less than a year. Never seen snow. Been in a dry Texas heat the whole time.
I don't know what it is about ur rig bro, and I've seen a few cool470's out there lifted with overland goodies and what not but yours is in a class of its own, cause let's face it if you don't have the right lift and tire combo on a GS they can look a bit goofy, good job nice rack
Just getting into this and am so confused by the roof weight ratings. My 2009 GX470 says the roof limit is 130lbs. A Rhino Rack itself is like 60lbs, nevermind an awning, storage and/or roof top tent.
Thanks that’s awesome! I have the wire tucked beside the windshield under the molding, if you put a little bit of butyl in the molding before shoving the wire in it sticks in there really well.
Thanks! It's just to prevent water from getting down the bolt holes. It is just something I learned from friends along the way and they suggested it. If you haven't had any leaks yet you are probably fine but also it wouldn't be too hard to add some to each mounting location one at a time.
@@LoganKingMedia I just installed mine, their design is such do you don’t need to use silicone with the rubber feet. Other racks like SSO require silicone
Thanks! I worked for an energy company but now I just started my own company called Blackhouse Cinema (@blackhousecinema) on IG if you want to check it out!
@@LoganKingMedia right on. Local all the way. I’m getting some custom front/ rear bumpers and skids done on my taco by danger customs here in Calgary. Was about to order from C4 but seen his work online and decided to stay local. 💪
@@LoganKingMedia I had it done on my LX-470 and it’s incredible! Gonna do my ‘81 landcruiser this coming spring/summer when weather warms up a bit more.
Everytime I see your lexus it pushes me to get mine built up. Love the build man, rack suites your build 👍
Thanks man and that's awesome, keep it going!
That's an awesome garage set up. I love how organized it is .
Thank you!
Still patiently waiting for mine to arrive. Supposed to be within a week or so!
I absolutely love the way yours looks! I have an 08 all stock same color and really want a similar setup. Awesome job!
Thank you!
Perfect timing. Waiting for mine to come in!
Awesome!
Came here for the Lexus, couldn’t stop looking at the Subaru.

Nice install. Looks great !
Thanks!

Hello
Which is more desirable the GX470, or the GX 460?
Watching from Sweden, but drive a Citroën Grand Picasso. I would love to have one of these beasts.
Thanks for watching!!
I was Milwaukee tool representative for years and have collect lots of tools but not the impact ratchet.
I'm hooked on Milwaukee products now haha
@@LoganKingMedia they’re great products! I’ve been using them since 2016!
450th Like bro : )
Keep it Up!!
Why sherpa over Prinsu? How is the wind noise on highway speeds?
Nice,What size your rims and tires?
Tires are 315/70r17 wheels are 17x9 -38 offset
@@LoganKingMedia thanks for your response, one more thing what lift you have and inches?
Wait, are ugga duggas metric or imperial?
Metric duh
Metricccc
Dude I love your bumper. I have an 07 4Runner that I’m looking to upgrade. Do you know of a bumper comparable to yours that would fit my rig? Thanks!
Thanks! I don't think they make one yet for yours but it is from red-dog-fabrication.myshopify.com/
What's the final result at night when it's lit up?

130 lbs while driving with the stock rack. I believe the spec on the roof is 700lbs
Is that the half height or full height?
where is that spot where you had your car under a bridge ??
Great video! Question: can you still use the sunroof? Thanks
Thanks! Yup you can still use it
Enjoyed the video. How do you get power to the light bar on the new roof rack?

Looks really good brother.
Dang I didn’t use silicone with my rack. Curious if it’s necessary. Think so? Did the install instructions say to?

@@LoganKingMedia plan on it now. 🙏 solid idea! Love the Sherpa crew...
pro típ use butyl tape instead of silicone much better coverage and way less messy if you ever go back to stock or remove rack for any reason
I just found out that due to the rubber spacers they use you do not need to use silicon!

Who cringed and thought the Subaru canards would hit something when he backed out? lol!
Light bar looks 38”?
Yes correct!
1 ugga dugga or 2?
3!!
Looks good. 👍
Did you get that bar from cali raised?
Thanks! Lightbar is from Speed Demon Lights here in Canada. It's 18,000 lumens I believe.
