Oops, my apologies - I have just realised I used a picture of Louis XIV instead of Louis XVI!! 😭 Please note, it should have been a picture of Louis XVI who looks like this --> www.biography.com/royalty/louis-xvi
You'll be happy to know that here in India we learn a lot about the French revolution and nationalism in Europe in history in our 9th and 10th grades 😃 and the questions that you asked are exactly the ones that we get in our examinations 😁 Love your French lessons ma'am ! Bonne journée!
@@XXPiggyzXX652544 the slaves in Haiti saw how the French advocated for liberty, equality and fraternity so they declared freedom and killed their French overlords and asked for independence from the brutal colonialism.
2:00 The 1789 revolution didn't permanently end the French monarchy, it came back multiple times with Louis XVIII, and didn't end until after Louis Phillippe in 1848.
He didn't ended it, but it way changed it at least.. .the Restoration wasn't as absolute as before the revolution... louis XVIII, Charles X and the less absolute is Louis Philippe, this last has nothing in common with the previous ones.
@@jpc7118most French kings weren't absolutist tho. The absolutism that we associate with the so called "Ancien regime" was started by louis 13 and completely established by louis 14.
I honestly did not know the history of “Le quatorze juillet”, and now that I’m informed I am so glad that this revolution has taken place. Thanks for the info mlle Alexa 💙🤍❤️
Beleive it or not, I wrote all of these little anecdotes AFTER seeing des questions mais avant hearing our Chère professeur explain the lessons: (just happy that I remembered so much from school) ... :D I learnt from my favourite histroire professuer, Miss Diana + , that Louis XIV built it, Louis XV enjoyed it, and Louis XVI paid for it referencing the Château de Versailles. "Let 'em eat cake" ... (she didn't say it)? I have also been a fanatic of Frédéric Bastiat (1850) who wrote one the greatest pamphlets of all time IMHO "The Law". He loved la liberté, and in that century, he said that the US was quite the model (minus the plunder against the slaves, of course). I picked French to learn because I wanted to read this pamphlet in its original French and of course the works of Mersenne ! I am a former United States Coastguardsman, and our branch of the military started in 1790. Also, few know that the now archaic "Thee, Thou, Thy, & Thine" were our "familiar" forms of address, but because of the egalitarian movements, everyone called everyone "You" and all of the "formal" forms of address in the English-speaking world after that. Thanks to France for shewing that it could be done! July seemed to be a bad month for monarchs - ironic that July is named after none other than Julius Caesar - a monarch, per se ... Do we or do we not harm more of our brothers than even the most deathly plague? :( I wish more children learnt these horrors in order that they never repeat them ... hm ... where have I heard _THAT_ before? In México, we also have a "desfile militar" on our 16 sept celebraciones. Cohetes (fireworks) are also in the mix ... although, I have never attended a "ball", we do have a "Noche mexicana" to celebrate, and wee attend the "grito" on the 15th at 11 pm (23 heures). Quelle belle chanteuse, ma professeur ! Salut de mexique avec l'amour ! PS - When I was a music teacher in Arizona, I taught my music classes the anthems of the US, Spain, Canada, Mexico, and mais oui, FRANCE!!! There eyes were quite opened to studying the history after that, and I think we had some really informed kiddos!!! Adieu !
I just finished this topic in my syllabus .... We Indians in 9th grade have a lesson called the french Revolution and learnt about it ... I was pissed of Louis 16 and Robespierre 😭😭 but I was inspired because of olympe de gouges , she's so freaking good .. ✨ thx tho 😂😘.. the whole question session was like a revision 😂😂 .. merci beaucoup Madame
I learned a lot about French Revolution history when I was in secondary school in China, which was 30 years ago. I was surprised by myself that I could still answer these questions correctly after all these years, IN FRANCH!!! I have been studying French for just under a year, I like your teaching style, simple short and crystal clear.
How do they teach it in China? In America it very much feels like ' oh and we inspired a bunch of people like France to have their own revolution later !' Like a kind of aside.
About 1790 2:26, there has also had an event on the 14 th of July this year. This was about a celebration that gathered every body at the time (including royalists and revolutionaries). This was an other reason why the 14th of July was chosen. This is also why most history teachers hate the English name of this day.
You are the best French teacher ever! I always either learn something new ....as of today or I revise my knowledge. This was a very useful lesson especially because I could also follow the words to the French National Anthem. Merci encore!
1) What is celebrated on July 14? The Capture of the Bastille (1789) AND the Feast of Confederation (1790) 2) Delacroix’s painting represents the second French revolution in 1830 The red jacket is for the English. In France it’s blue.
Thanks you for this video, it was fun! I got to practice French and learn about Le Quatorze juillet. And thank you for singing and translating the French national anthem 🎶
Yea so that was enlightening. Anthems from days of old are sometimes the most ridiculous phrases. Now I learnt of Bastille day. And that when you sing to me, I am not as excited as I felt you would affect me by your serenade Alexa. But you are still very beautiful.. Hohoho!
Thanks Alexa, for these additional Information about Bastille day. I will be watching the military parade and fireworks in Champs de Mars this Wednesday, (hopefully it doesn't rain a lot)
At the end of the parade, a choir made up of children sang in front of the presidential platform. The children and the musicians were arranged in the shape of a skull. This gives an idea of the fate that the military reserve for the President of the Republic.
The Guillotine was replaced with something that was far more cruel: la déclaration d'impôt. Who would have thought that it was possible to lose your head multiple times?
