What I FEEL when I look at Jack is a horse that so deeply wants to please his human, but for the life of him....quite literally....does not want to do what he knows he is being asked to do. It is WAY outside of his emotional comfort zone.
Okay...so I have been doing this wrong. I thought the bow cue could be used to make them lie down also. That's wrong. I'm surprised though that sometimes the horse can stand in that V position forever until they decide to go down. Neither of my horses are very patient. If I were to try this, they would continually try to step out of it over and over...I would keep correcting them, and they would start to get angry at me. Both of these horses are clearly very cold and patient. How do you teach a hotter horse who is NOT patient to do this?
Stacy, I have a question. How do you get the horse to stay down after it's laying down? My horse lays down but he immediately rolls and then gets back up. How do I get him to not roll or stay down for a while?
Wranglerolmata I let them get up, but ask them to go down again right away. If they are getting up because they are panicked then it is different than if they are just getting up on their own. If they are just getting up on their own then I ask them to lay down again right away. I also use a cue to tell them to get up. Teaching the 'end cue' or in this case a 'get up' cue helps them understand when it is expected.

Had back surgery. Am back home healing. I need my "JAC - FIX"! Thank you Stacy.
