Great video thank you very much! I'm moving to the US and was wondering about this topic, and for me its totally useless. I replace eye glasses once every few years at most, and when I buy glasses I buy them online anyway. You really cleared this up.
If you don't currently wear glasses, are age 40, get the vision insurance, get the eye exam and get ahead of the day when glasses will be needed. Then get glasses with the insurance each year for the first two years. (You'll want two pairs) The turn off the vision insurance for a year or two. Rinse and repeat.
Great Video and something I've been asking myself for the last 2 or 3 years. I pay extra out of my paycheck for vision insurance and my (Reading only) Glasses cost nearly $250 out of pocket for nearly bottom of the barrel frames.
It's a tough choice! For reading-only glasses, maybe some of the inexpensive ones would be good enough. Have you tried any of the online glasses companies?
@@SmartFamilyMoney Going to check out Warby Parker. I think I got an email saying something about my Eyeglass plan (that I'm locked into for the year) has a deal with them. Will find out. Thx!
Does anyone know what they mean by vision plan ? Because the eye doctor place I went to asked me what my vision plan was and I had no clue what they were talking about.
A vision plan is a separate insurance plan (usually through a job) that covers eye care only (eye exams, glasses, contacts). If you're not sure if your job offers one, ask someone from human resources. If you don't have a vision plan, sometimes your health insurance will cover eye exams, but health insurance almost never covers glasses.

That's terrible advice. Literally anything could happen to make eye sight worse or better then the prescription you purchase

Wow, I only have to pay $35 for the year for my county's vision insurance. The county pays the rest of the cost.
Nice! That's a deal!
thank you for this info
You are welcome! Do you have vision insurance?
@@SmartFamilyMoney no i don't. i was thinking of getting one since i'm using glasses and contact lens. i might not need it since i saw your video... ü
Close to $100/year for 1 person for vision insurance? I'm assuming that is not through an employer. Because I only pay $40/year through my employer.
Yeah, that was through an employer. I bet your employer is paying part of the cost and not all of them do. Nice benefit if they do help pay though!
My employer does not provide vision insurance. You’re lucky.
