    Making is TOTALLY a form of healing. When my mom died a year and a half ago all I wanted to do was watch jimmy Diresta videos and go out in the garage and try to learn the techniques I saw jimmy do. Making things totally helped me through my grief, it also helped my house look more awesome

    I search and try to find every video that I can featuring Nick Offerman. I am a self taught wood worker and try to gain every ounce of knowledge that I can from him. He is an inspiration for me to keep making the things that I do. Thanks Nick!! love your work. Looking forward to reading your new book.

    After an injury that drove me into an early retirement, I knew I had to do SOMETHING to avoid going crazy. Or dying.
    I had always had an interest in woodworking. I dove into that, and now you can find me in my ever-expanding woodworking shop. Making. Anything that strikes my fancy.

    Nick's message is very inspirational. I typically Make because others need something. Sometimes I get to make for the pure whimsy of getting to make something. Almost always I enjoy the process of doing as much as the accomplishment of having made something.

    I make whatever strikes me at the moment in my wood shop to deal with a stressful job. I can close the laptop and put away the crap I have to deal with every day and get out the pecil, paper, ruler, and protractor and draw out a plan. No, I don't use sketchup. I'm old school. My shop time allows me to focus on one single thing, and have no distractions while cutting wood. It's my zen. It allows me to continue in my career.Nick's got the goofiest laugh ever!

    I make because I spend 30 years working to repair, fix, and supporting people as a manager. I had an urge to create vs fixing something. I got into woodworking. I have rarely built more than two of the same thing. I explored building jewelry boxes to wood stripped kayaks.. I guess the next thing is wood lathe or welding, who knows.......

    Well I started making stuff out of wood because I wanted to give a nice rustic farmhouse table for my mom as a gift and I couldn't find anything like what I had in mind anywhere. I fell in love with wood and metal as a materials and continued the journey to chairs, few similar tables for friends, reading throne (literally), and couple more projects. I make because I love making people around me happy. #WhyIMake

    I make because I enjoy learning new things and with quilting specifically because I can never finish learning and it combats the ideas of what's an "appropriate" craft for men. I taught my girlfriend how to use a sewing machine and make or enhance her own clothes and don't feel one ounce less of a man

    I make lip balm, soap and skin lotion because I can make it better for less money than commercially available products. I make knives because I am a knife nut and a retired woodworker. Then I make sheaths for the knives. I also carve spoons out of green white ash. All the ash trees here on the east coast are being killed off by the emerald green ash borer. I also turn exotic wood walking canes that can be used as an attitude adjuster.

    Nick Offerman, you're a total bad-ass and thank you for the inspiration. facebook.com/rockinboxes2016/ I've been trying to become a modestly better woodworker for years and everything Nick says has helped me to do so. I make keepsake boxes from exotic species. It's so easy to get started...it's one of the easiest and cheapest ways to make yourself feel better and to make others days a little brighter with a thoughtful creation. Thanks Nick

    Why is being a maker or the maker movement all of a sudden so popular now? Is it because so many people have gone to college instead of trades and have forgotten how to install doorknob? People have been making things for thousands of years but now all the sudden it's cool?

    • @RandomSpongiform
      @RandomSpongiform 7 років тому

      Well yeah, I lot more people are college educated but they still miss the connection to something real, so it's more of a need that's being fulfilled with this movement...
