Juneteenth at the Zora Neale Hurston Branch Library

The Hurston Branch Library celebrated Juneteenth with Juneteenth craft activities. Participants dropped in make bracelets, buttons and checkout books about Juneteenth. Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, was designated a federal holiday in the United States in 2021 and is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States. The holiday's name is a blending of the words "June" and "nineteenth", as it occurred on June 19, 1865.
