    The AirForce donated a B1b to a technical college I think in Kansas, and they’re going to completely disassemble it and scan it in 3D to try to identify ways to keep them airborne for cheaper going forward.

      I hope the Raider is as promising as the brass make it out to be but the AF loves to toot their own horn.
      I think the niche the B1 fills is nice to have. Perhapse the are waiting to design a new low flying super/hypersonic aircraft that relies on speed more than stealth.
      Of course in a real situation B1s would be flying with a system of other craft.

    How about a redo when you don’t know the approx vector the LRASMs would take? Like nobody can launch until the AWACS sees the B1R and then, like in real life, you’d likely have to fan out to find them as there’s no true idea when / where they would be launched.

    • @Jay_the_AV8R
      @Jay_the_AV8R Рік тому +15

      I had the idea of having a few aircraft like 3 airborne doing CAP, where after AWACS detects the B1R they are vectored in and the ship scrambles more aircraft. If the missiles were launched from a stealthy platform like the B-2 or F-35 then I’d assume the odds are heavily stacked in the attackers favor.

    A redo with air launched decoys mixed into the missile stream? Perhaps multiple B-1R's with a mix of decoys and missiles firing on different axis and a time difference between launches. The first launch attracts the defenders and decoys them out of position for the second attacker, with decoys to confuse any goal keeper patrol.

      That shouldn't be a fair fight
      carrier based aircraft are almost always some compromiss, they must survive harsh sea conditions, and be able to do almost every mission, but USAF use more specialised machines and units.

No searching, you just stay on the updated data link intel as the mission progresses, staying clear of enemy sensors that can burn through your stealth/countermeasures.

      Subsonic ASMs just aren't survivable in the 2020s. At just 12 mile horizon distance modern ship AESAs can burn through any stealth, and against subsonic targets 12 miles is at least a whole minute of engagement window for ship missile defence. AESAs with beamforming also have practically unlimited illumination and fire control channels to engage simultaneously arrivals, and Chinese VLS uses concentric canister launch so firing rate aren't limited by common exhaust channel overheat like on Mk-41.
      B1R themselves can also be detected very far out, so if they need to fly high and fast to obtain max LRASM range of say 300 miles, that also risk putting them within PL-15 range of the carrier's fighter screen.

Also not to forget any US Hunter killer subs in the area including ship launched missiles as well. This video is a cool representation but the US would not Risk just 1 bomber with such a simple attack pattern. So it seems it might make sense to try to get the enemy aircraft to commit much of their force in the wrong direction. For example, B1R strike comes in from Guam, as a B2 flanks from Alaska. Perhaps the B1R, to the great consternation of the J-20s, would be carrying AIM-260s instead of LRASM, then the B2 comes in with the LRASMs from another direction. You might also consider having F-22s escort the LRASMs in, and pick off any Chinese aircraft that attempt to intercept them.

    Be interesting to see how both incoming and air defence would be affected by proper wave/sea conditions, rather than a smooth flat surface as here. It would affect the cruise height and therefore detection/interception maybe?

    Will you guys be updating the flight characteristics of the F-35 to be more realistic? The F-35 is able to fly to its full potential now and has been doing some insane moves at airshows. As in F-22esque types of maneuvers. Combined with a HOBS AIM9x and HMD, it should be the most deadly plane in the sky right now. What are your thoughts? Thanks guys!

    You should add an F-35 escort, they would probably wipe the Chinese fighters out of the sky. Also use a more realistic scramble time. I doubt that many fighters could get airborne that quickly

  • @JimFinley11
    @JimFinley11 Рік тому +1

    Maybe a dumb question, but if the bomber flew in an arc with the target ships abeam and released its missiles more slowly, so that they were homing in on the targets from around that arc, would the CAP still be able to stop all or most of the missiles? Seems having the missiles coming in from half or a third of the compass would be an impossible defensive task.

    At about (07:20) you talk about radar acquisition, but I would _speculate_ that during a period when the U.S. is actively engaging enemy fleets, that both undersea and satellite assets would be released to assess where enemy ships are (and their type based on propulsion acoustic waveform envelopes and visual cues) and feed these data to the missiles to allow better targeting...long before radar capture and ID are needed. Indeed, these may help the missiles be even more stealthy and reduce the need for a missile's active radar by remotely providing individual ship IDs and close approximations of individual positions,. The missiles might even be capable of executing final approaches based on visual IDs.

    I’m wondering IF you can replace the warheads of 4 of the ASM’s with a jammer to accompany the flight as penetration aids ?? They would come on when they are detected. Also you dont scramble till AWACS warns you of incoming ASM but you still have 4 on CAP and 2 ready 5

    I actually really like the Boner. The proposed V-tail would have made it a very distinctive silhouette in the air, and the Boner would have had enough upgrades that it could conceivably have the sort of longevity the BUFF currently has.
    Also, the fact that everyone would have started calling it the Boner pretty much the second it rolled out of the hangar, if not before.

  • @danielkleiner7369
    @danielkleiner7369 Рік тому +1

    I would imagine that when any airborne missile is launched that you would like the missiles to swarm the enemy all at once. Sort of a time on target I believe. An easy way to manage this would be to have the B1 launch the missiles perpendicular to the target instead of head onto target. The LRASM's would correct course to target and more or less all arrive at the same time plus from slightly different vectors. You could also program the missiles to do the same, but it seems simpler to launch perpendicular.

    From my point of view, all that we would need to do is fly two of the B-1Rs up to altitude/speed, let them perform an attack run without dropping any missiles. The enemy group will see these two attack runs and scramble to intercept. Defending two different attacking aircraft from a carrier with finite fighter support will be difficult but, possible. However, it will also draw them away from the real threat. Meanwhile, the two B21s or B2s will be flying an attack run from some other directions and actually launching missiles. 24 to 48 inbound missiles will be nearly impossible to stop from an undetected approach. Run this scenario and observe the results.

    I think it is the most beautiful plane in the world. And it is an actually a great platform for bringing long range weapons to the fighting area and allow the F-35 or the F-22 to take control of the arms from he aforementioned planes and launch them once the fighter aircraft empties his payload and can use the B-1’s weapons as its own. Which keeps the B-1 safe out of the enemies fighting box and allows the more sophisticated aircraft the ability to have more and various weapons at its disposal. A win win so to speak.

    • @Darthybuddy
      @Darthybuddy Рік тому

      Nah. thats space that could otherwise be used for more explosives or fuel for range. And the way these work, a jammer would just give them away. They arent worried about being locked up because they are so low and fast that you don't have time to do anything with that lock. If you want to get a jammer into the mix, I'd imagine some airman could rig you one with the warhead replaced by a radar emitter though. So, who knows.

    • @tomte47
      @tomte47 Рік тому

      While the lower RCS would help with jamming it still have to fight the power output of the ship radar.
      Ship radars are enormously powerful and would burn through that jamming at long range.
