FlipaClip announced that they’re getting a new update this year. After the new update comes out, I think that would be a perfect time to compare it to procreate dreams.

I know this was probably not your intention but what irks me about the Dreams hype is that people ignore all the much more capable and in some cases more accessible apps like Callipeg and Toonsquid that have been around for a while and are great. Dreams doesn‘t even have a selection tool neither a very frame by frame friendly timeline, quality of life features like shift and trace, etc etc. Sure, it will probably get some of those things eventually but without the Procreate name and the flashy faux Apple marketing campaign they drove, i don‘t think it would‘ve made such a splash at all. I‘m not saying don‘t use or don‘t like the app but it‘s not like it‘s the salvation for independent animators of the 21st century as it was hailed. It‘s an open beta of an app that is more catered towards motion graphics than character animation. And unfortunately, the hype overshadows a lot of its competitors by smaller, just as dedicated developers.

Ik! I use ToonSquid, and I’m really disappointed that no one else really mentions it, as I THINK it’s the best animation app for iPad.

I have both Toonsquid and Dreams but use only Toonsquid for now.. I know Procreate will improve but didnt mind my buying it now cos that price may change in future.

🤔 Yeah, you have to give the Procreate team credit for creating buzz around their new product. 👏 For Procreate users who want to make the leap to animation (probably a decent size market), dreams makes a lot of sense. But for those who understand the animation process & have the mindset, it’s not an earth shaking moment. Still, there is a beautiful logic to their interface that I think some artists will really like. It’s a Fender Strat versus Les Paul kinda thing. ✌️🍷🎩🎩🎩🌏🕊
