The second dog Beanie was introduced to was absolutely adorable. He/she also had the best playbow, very clear body language and really tried to seem as none threatening as possible in hopes Beanie would want to say hi. So cute.

It’s good to notice that sometimes when a dog seems mean and aggressive towards other dogs, it’s actually because they’re insecure and afraid. Even if the other dog is showing submissive signs, like laying close to the ground, defense sometimes looks like offense.

My dog hates other dogs. She is treated like the queen of the world in my family. No matter how much we try, Braggie will never get along with other dogs. Whenever other peoples dogs get loose she freaks out and tries to attack, making the whole situation worse. She is an absolute angel towards us owners and other guests that are not babies. I just keep her away from as many dogs as possible

@@ariannarodriguez9400 Well, other people should keep their dogs on a leash anyways. When the other people's dogs are on a leash and yours is too, nothing bad can happen, even if one of the dogs does not like other dogs. But if other people let their dogs off leash then it's not your fault if the dogs get in a fight! (Sorry for probably bad English xD)

@@tterexx426 no I understand what you said, your English is perfectly fine! And yeah I always keep mine on leash but my neighbor’s dog got off leash three times while I’m trying to walk her and the owner just looked while I’m struggling over here to lift my baby up above my head while that huge dog (who wants nothing but to play) is clawing all over me trying to get my dog and my dog is scratching my arms. And the owner just stares. That’s what infuriates me the most. That people, despite their dog not being on leash and having problems with other people, just watch their situation and call their dogs from their back porch as if the dog is going to stop and come to the owner. But she moved to another neighborhood so I don’t have to worry about her anymore

    • @tterexx426
      @tterexx426 2 роки тому +1

@@ariannarodriguez9400 Yeah, I understand! I think it's fine for people to let their dog off-leash in a controlled environment, like a fenced area or when there isn't anyone near except perhaps a dog their dog knows well and both dog owners know they get along. But so many people let their dog off leash even towards strangers. And that can end badly. I wish you and your dog all the best!

"....you can't expect them to change in two seconds."
Because Victoria has SO many years of experience, to inexperienced it DOES look she can make a change in two seconds. Her calm energy and ability to read a dog gives her the edge in being proactive.
We, as owners, have to do the work it takes to develop Victoria's skills in ourselves. Having the tools and knowledge is useless, if we don't discipline ourselves to do the work with our pets.
Edited to add: In all reality though....the dogs DO learn in two seconds....and we people need two hours(?), Days(?), WEEKS(?). Boy, are we dense!! LOL

Yup! I used to work under a horse trainer with over 50 years of experience and taught by some of the world’s most renowned trainers. It was absolutely astonishing the way she could come in and in 1 minute get a horse to do something I’d been trying for half an hour. 7 years with her and I was still learning something new every day when I left.
It’s the expertise that makes it looks so quick and easy. We as amateurs have to remember our relative inexperience and be patient when we don’t get results so easy.

dogs don't learn in two seconds. victoria just communicates effectively which can iinfluence a dog's behaviour in the moment. changing the habit takes consistent repetition, which is on the owners to do, which is why it is in fact the owners that victoria trains. the dogs are pretty much just there for her to demonstrate what the owners should do.

2 months ago my partner and I adopted a reactive 4 year old jack russell/boxer mix. She's a very sweet loving girl with people, but her anxiety comes out in the worst way when she sees other dogs. 2 seperate adopters had taken her home, and returned her, because they weren't prepared to take on her reactivity, but we knew she was the one for us and welcomed the challenge. I'm happy to say that in 2 months she's making great progress, she even went on her first walk with another dog this week! Thank you Victoria for all the wonderful advice and techniques you've shared on this channel, it's been such a great resource for us. Much love from us, and Lucky 🐶❤

This is why you are supposed to introduce your dog to other nice puppies and dogs of different breeds and sizes when they are a puppy, as soon as they get their shots to protect them from parvo, they should have lots of positive interactions with large and small dogs. I was lucky my dog made friends from pugs to mastiffs during that prime socialization period with dogs right on my street and we had play dates in a neighbour's yard with several well mannered dogs in my neighborhood so he learned how to interact with all kinds of dogs, big and small.

@@Br0nto5aurus sure they may be fine now but that's how the damage to the trachea takes place to begin with by pulling and straining too hard against a flat collar. Small dogs are at high risk for trachea damage from flat collars and most owners aren't aware of that. So really these two dogs have multiple risk factors going on, 1. They are small dogs 2. They pull a lot 3. Owner is unaware of risk 4. The owner also yanks them around a lot as mentioned by Victoria. That's 4 things working against them and that means that one very mild and quick mistake could easily cause serious damage.
All due respect these dogs are at high risk and I feel that it's irresponsible to ignore and keep using the wrong tool especially when there is no downside or large cost working against fixing things. Why needlessly risk a dog's health when changing to the right tool is so easy and inexpensive and in fact more effective?

@@roxiefrox252 I believe they ment they are more prone to developing breathing issues due to smaller dogs being at a higher risk of trachea damage as well as a disproportionately large amount of small dogs are brachycephalic. I honestly think that's what they were getting at but simply worded it a bit oddly. As for brachycephalic dogs (dogs with very short snouts and flat faces which are prone to a spectrum of serious breathing issues ranging from extremely problematic and outright deadly to more mild cases) there are a few larger brachycephalic dogs (boxer, chow chow, bull dogs) but overall the overwhelming majority happen to be small dogs, for example, pugs, french bulldogs, caviler king Charles spaniels, Boston terriers, Chihuahuas (especially apple headed Chihuahuas), Shihtzus, pekingese, affenpinschers, Lhasa apsos, Brussels griffons, Pomeranians, etc etc. All of these breeds are at a higher risk of developing many different breathing issues due to their bone structure as well as their soft tissue structure. Many end up having to have part of their soft palate removed because it's elongated and encroaching on their airway or even have their nostrils enlarged to improve airflow etc. They sadly have many issues due to how we breed them to look a certain way even though it causes them to suffer. Also as you correctly pointed out smaller dogs are naturally more prone to trachea damage simple due to size and pulling (either by the dog or the handler). Cheers :)

Let's address the elephant in the room: They can be bitey, nippy, or snarly with humans too. My Maltese (A rehome) just started exhibiting this behavior. If she thinks you're picking her up wrong or if she doesn't agree with grooming at home, she whips her head around. She hasn't actually bitten me, yet but given her behavior I am buying her a humane muzzle before her first grooming appointment since being in my home.

“I have to listen to woman now”
...???? Is that weird for you or something, buddy???...
Homie isn’t a bad dude but he’s pretty much the research about how “men have no idea how much they talk” embodied in a single person

It’s also possible that this is just a misunderstanding due to the fact that he speaks English as a second language. When he said that I took it as “I have to listen to THE woman now.” As in Victoria, not women in general. I’ve seen lots of misunderstandings due to language barriers like his, where he can express himself well but not always as specifically or intuitively as someone who speaks English as a first language, so I like to give the benefit of the doubt until I know the intent. I work with many ESL students as a professor and in other areas, and I’ve found this is very common.

I'd like to see the good dogs Victoria is using for training receive treats, too. Doesn't seem fair that they're being so calm and playful and not be rewarded.

Am I the only one here who got a puppy one week before the pandemic lockdown and now has a dog that has super poor dog socializing skills? Just me? Now I’m working on reverting those fears she has…

One has nothing to do with the other. You still should have been taking the dog out and letting it socialize. Now you look a fool.

Victoria: How many times do you walk them?
    Guy: 2, 3 times
Dogs: -are hyper active and overstimulated -
Who here's watched this show enough to know better? 😂

I have my dog, walked 2-3 times. Daily. Morning and dinner, and it’s a super long walk. And my sisters run after her all day, and she still has energy. No matter what we do

Seem like a personable couple. I wonder why they isolated the dogs to the point that they both have the social competency of a brick. Not being able to read a puppy bow is odd

Come on, Victoria. I have 15 months old small dorkie and she wants to greet absolutely everyone. All dogs and people, this can be nuisance sometimes, because she also loves small children and I do realise that a small child can get scared, so I control her. Besides that, she is really lovely and talks to everybody who wants to talk to her.

No chance in hell that guy walks those dogs! He had no clue what to do when other dogs passed🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ it’s getting insulting to call in a overqualified specialist like her for such “minor issues” that never needed to become a behavioral problem if you just visit a dog school! And freakin walk your dog!!!🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤯🤯
My (terrified of ppl) rescue had to be sedated for her doctors appointment today, that’s a real problem!

If a small dog like Beanie is barking to the wrong dog she is gone. I can understand the owners to have the need of change. Of course some owners make mistakes. Without this show wouldn't exist.

    • @roxiefrox252
      @roxiefrox252 3 роки тому +8

That’s not a minor issue, these dogs were at very high risk of starting an attack and/or being attacked. That sounds like a “real problem” to me.
