@@kristenbetthel1072I was wondering the same thing.
@@kristenbetthel1072 No, I have never needed to do that. :) Good question!
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead thanks Janice, these look easy, worth a try! Enjoy your weekend, and your pickles!
I ordered a copy for my daughter!
Sarah, I tried to make burger rolls using the recipe you posted from a live stream a few weeks ago. They were a marvelous success. I wanted to thank you for giving me the courage to expand my cooking skills. I also planted herbs and vegetables according to the instructions, in fully sun. Wow, the parsley is growing well. I am very grateful for this site and your warm family. Janice, love the “What we eat in a week”. Have a great late summer weekend
Oh Bev, I'm so glad you tried out the burger buns! I know I tend to think things are more complicated than they really are and am often pleasantly surprised that the process is much simpler than I'm made it out to be. Thanks for taking the time to leave a kind comment!! :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead Where can I find the burger bun recipe?
Hello, great video. 😊 I enjoy watching all of them. Have a great weekend. 😊
@@kristaclark4950 Here you go, Krista! It's from The Prairie Homestead's website. www.theprairiehomestead.com/2018/01/homemade-hamburger-buns-recipe.html
@@ozarkfamilyhomesteadthanks I don’t know why but I thought those were sourdough rolls. Any reason I can’t make hotdog buns with this recipe? Thanks
❤❤❤❤ Such a beautiful, Christian loving ❤ family
Hello everyone I’m going to wish you and the family a wonderful day
I am going to try this recipe!! Janice please show how to make kimchi!! Thank you!! 🤗❤️👍
I love fermented veggies! Especially kimchi! Thank you 🙏
You're very welcome! 😊
Thank you for sharing, Janice and Sarah. I love learning about stuff like this.
Janice I loved your “ Just cut them like this- dute, dute, dute” to show penny slices! LOL
Love these videos, with you and Sarah, cooking and preserving😊😊😊😊😊
This was very helpful and educational thank you so much for sharing skills that we all need to start doing and bring back to everyday life.
Beautiful apron, definitely my colors❤😊
Enjoyed that did not know how to ferment pickles. Got to try those.
Thank you for showing step by step! I’ve only pickled using vinegar so I am going to have to try this method of natural fermentation. 💗💗
Neat -really enjoyed the video ❤
This is something I'm definitely going to try.
You're making me want to try again. I tried a bunch of times years ago. But they always ended up too soft. I decided I was done trying a decade ago. Thank you!
Yum! I love homemade pickles! I finally found a lady near here who still makes grape leaf pickles like my Grandma Ginny used to make. Just picked up 3 quarts this morning! I think you would love those, too! Especially if you have grape vines and have plenty of grape leaves (I can’t remember if you do). They are a fermented pickle, too!
Thank you for sharing. I love learning things from your family.
May God bless you all indeed. AMEN
Love from South Africa xoxo
Wonderful working hard
My mom used to make fermented crockpot pickles using grape leaves to line the bottom and all around the big crockpot that she had, my dad and I always snuck by and dove our fingers in the crockpot to grab a pickle when mom wasn't looking!! They were so good! Thanks for posting this.
I really enjoyed watching this video
Very interesting video I thoroughly enjoyed it
Thank you for sharing your wisdom. You made it look so easy. Sadly our cucumbers didn't do well this year. Maybe they will do better next year, then I will try this.
Thank you for sharing. Pretty good process!!
I’m so sorry for your loss of your tube friend it’s hard to lose a friend. I’m hoping that my best friend will be at church on Sunday if not i get disappointed and when she is there i get happy and smiley
Love your video's, great infomation. Thanks
Thank you for sharing lots of cukes here too. Canned dill yesterday, bread and butter today. Will definitely try your recipe on next batch our of the garden. ❤
Awesome! I hope you enjoy them! :)
Love your videos!!! If you have time please share more garden preserving i have lots of zucchini and tomatoes coming in !!! Love following along to you great directions!!!❤@ozarkfamilyhomestead
Thank you 😊
Thank you Janice. I'm going to try this out. I am a big pickle lover.
I just picked a large amount of cucumbers this am. I’ve had so many this year. So now I’m going do this! Thank you!
I love fermenting! I started with kombucha, turned to water kefir and started with kimchi about a year ago. The best thing with fermenting vegetables is, you can change the recipe however you want to (just need enough salt). I make kimchi from pears and add carrots and whatever vegetable looks good and is affordable. And there are actually different kinds of chili flakes, even pretty mild ones. And because I love kimchi that much, I would probably turn the cucumbers into kimchi 😅. Using pears definitely adds some sweetness to it. Maybe your family would like that better.
Oooh, I've not heard of kimchi using pears! The one I showed in the video did use cucumbers and we like the taste of it. It's just a bit too spicy for us! :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead I'm in a German fermenting Facebook group and asked for ideas. You can also use pineapple (but I can't eat raw pineapple) and simply all vegetables and fruits that don't get too mushy.
Thank you Janice I want to try that recipe ❤
I loved this!!!!
I’m going to try these for sure! Thanks
Fabulous,I'm definitely making these❤thank you
Thanks Janice and Sarah- I amexcited to make a couple jars to see how they turn out for me.
Take note of what Janice says iwas subscribed then I noticed something different yesterday. I wasn't subscribed anymore but I'm back to being subscribed again you really have to watch for that.
That's so frustrating! I do not understand why that keeps happening to people! :) (Thank you for resubscribing though!)
No problem love your channel so always will.
This was a good, good, good video- I think I have everything on hand to try this. Thank you for sharing
That's one of the things I like about this recipe, Kate. I typically have everything on hand to make up a batch, so I don't have to buy special things. I hope you like them too! :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead Just went out and snagged what cukes I could find. I was going to ask if you guys ever planted dry beans to grow for more dry beans? I just experimented with that this year, and I find it is a lot of work. I planted a 20' row on a fence-some pinto and some navy. So far, I got a pint jar full. I'm guessing another cup or so on the bean vines yet.
@@user-lh1sw4tu1k Yes, we've grown dried beans in the past, but we didn't do it this year. We tried succotash beans and they did well for us, but we would have to grow significantly more plants to actually have enough to feed our family! :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead I agree- AND.... My pickles are on the counter :)
Mom taught me to make them . Whole tiny ones garlic and dill in bottom of jar first then cucumber . Yum
it looks amazing i dont think i could make them as my place is always cold summer or winter lol hugsssssss
I really enjoy your videos!
Thank you so much for this video! I can’t wait to try it.❤️
will definitely have to try this I just absolutely love your videos
Going to try to make these pickles. Have the jars and the disks, and auto burp lids on order.
I hope you enjoy them, Susan! :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead they are already bubbling. My house smells like garlic. lol mine looks a lot like yours did. Canned 12 pints, two half pints, and one 10 oz. Jar of plum jam yesterday too. Wish I could find more apricots. My first batch is already down to three jars. My family loves the homemade jams. I have a jelly making cone, but we like jam the best. I use only about half of the sugar. I use my Le Creuset Dutch oven to cook it in. It keeps the heat in and constant. It cooks in half the time.
I enjoyed watching 😊❤
Ooohhhhh Kimchee, spicier the better😂😂😂😂😂
I should have been patient lol you answered by canning question lol
Thank you very much for an excellent explanation❤
Sarah is so talented. I can not find Aprons like that in Australia. The size is never comfortable. 😢
Truly enjoyed this video Janice. I can do this! Thank you. Have a great day! 😊
You can absolutely do this! :)
Janice i enjoyed this video, pickles are my favourite ...any pickles 🥒..i will make these ..thankyou for sharing
good afternoon Janice and Sarah
Hi Leteakea! I hope you're having an awesome day! :)
Great video!
Idea: put the pickle jars on a baking sheet with sides to keep the mess contained?
Learning from you. Was surprised there was no vinegar!❤
Awsome thanks for sharing ❤❤❤
Love your videos!😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Thank you, Vanessa! :)
I have no idea what fermented pickles taste like, I will have to try it myself ! Thankyou😊
Use excess cucumber for bread and butter pickle s, no waste then just more food to enjoy
Really enjoy your videos. I have a question. How long does it take you to use all those beautiful eggs? Seems like you always have a lot of them in the baskets. Thanks for sharing your homestead with us! I love seeing everyone and I’m so impressed with your wonderful children and how kind and thoughtful they are!
Yay-just the video I was looking for ❤
I hope you enjoy and are able to preserve some yummy pickles later! 😋💕
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead So interesting -I thought I needed vinegar🤯-I’m going to try this I have a bunch of pickling cucumbers right now
@@dbrolig1534 Nope, no vinegar needed! Really very simple. :)
I had to watch a re-play of your Tuesday Live...so sorry for your loss of viewers...R.I.P.
Looks good but love pickealed eggs better lol
Thanks for sharing! I am curious as to what the taste and texture difference is between the fermented pickles and the pickles you can? Maybe even compared to store bought ?
Fermented pickles are way healthier than all of the pickled pickles sold at most grocery stores, Walmarts and Targets here in the USA.
Thank you for the video... how would you describe the flavor, is it salty? I want to try these.
Hi Janice, I love it, I always learn lots on your channel thank you! I have one question and I'm sorry if it seems a bit silly, so when you have pickled the cucumbers do they taste vinigary or just salty, I had it in my head that you pickle things using vinegar?? I will have a look at that book! Have a great week! 🥘🌻🥚🥚🍞🐔🐕🦺🦆🥒🥒🥰🥰
Thank you! Can you do this with other vegetables? Carrots?
❤❤❤❤
Janice, have you thought about fermenting your own red wine vinegar? I saw Jessica from Three Rivers Homestead doing it and I've been thinking about giving it a whirl myself. I love to ferment!!❤
👍❤️
Hi guys❤
Hi Janice- Fun video! Just one question- so you use a special salt for this recipe? Thank you 🥒
Hi Mary Ann! I just used the course type of Celtic sea salt that I purchase from Azure Standard. That's what I've been using for years and it works great for me! :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead thank you my dear friend xo 🌸❤️🌼
Hi Janice...can I use any kind of jar???
Fun to watch you cook! Don't you need to use vinegar to pickle something? Do these pickles taste like store bought pickles? Actually, I prefer sweet pickles...do you have a recipe for those?
I have never made sweet pickles, Krista! I think these fermented cucumbers most closely resemble the refrigerated Claussen pickles in the grocery store. Several people have been surprised that I don't use vinegar, but it's not necessary for this recipe. :)
So interesting! Did you use pickling salt? I have never made pickles, but would love to try!
Dear Janice do I have to put garlic in the pickles my family doesn't like it
Hi Janice, what kind of salt was that. Thank you
Cathey, I used a coarsely ground Celtic sea salt that I purchase from Azure Standard. I'm sure something similar is available locally though! :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead thank you Janice
I've been preserved for 74 years and counting!😅
Her laugh sounded like a horse whinnying.🤣🤣🤣
Janice do you buy your mustard seed from Azure Standard? I can 40-50 jars of bread and butter pickles from my cucumbers. Buying those little tiny jars of mustard seeds is hard on my budget for I use 5-6 of jars. Cost is around 30$ for all the mustard seeds. Your fresh pickles look delicious!!!!!! Thank you!!!
Can you use picklepipes and weights ?❤❤😊
Will you be doing canning videos for start to finish.? I have canned oranges and pineapple. Canning really scares me but it shouldn't.
Hi sweet family! I heard that you could use grape leaf to keep them crisp. Is this true? Can’t wait to try this. Thanks!
I've heard that too, but never tried it myself, Tiffany! I have tried putting my cucumbers into ice water for a few minutes before slicing them. I do think that helps in making them crisper. :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead thank you so much
2 questions: Did I see carrot sticks in one of the jars? and would I have to do a hot water bath to make them shelf stable so I don’t take up so much room in the fridge?
Do you ever can or water bath pickles too?
Yes, we still have a pretty large supply of shelf-stable pickle spears and dill relish that we preserved two years ago! :)
Janice, do Fermented Pickles taste similar to store bought pickles and can you store them in a Food Storage room?
I love your pickles ,can you use other vegetables like sour kraut
Oh yes, we typically do a large quantity of fermented sauerkraut each year as well! :)
What kind of salt do you use? I've tried this year making pickles for the first time, and they turned out ok, but not great. Wi keep trying! 😊
Do you ferment sourkraut also?
Can this method be used in a half gallon or gallon jar?
Hi Janice can i use any kind of jar??
Do you make sweet pickles?
Would/could the jar explode if they aren't burped?
I want to ferment cucumbers and always have. No vinegar?
No Vinegar ?
Is the flavor like a garlic dill?
Do you go to church on Sunday
Would any other vegetables be suitable for fermenting?
Oh, bunches of vegetables, Judy! Fermentation and dehydrating used to be very common ways to preserve foods, but I think they've fallen out of favor with canning and freeze drying taking over. Beets, carrots, cabbage, green beans, and a whole bunch of other vegetables can be fermented. :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead thnx Janice, I'm going to give this a lot more thought xx
I have no idea how the taste would compare to my water bath canned pickles. A few years ago I made A fermented red onion. Yuck! It was not for me.
Nice to see a "how to" video.
Sarah, I’ve looked everywhere for your hamburger roll recipe, can you guide me as to where I would find it?
