    Apart from how gut wrenching this is to watch, this is the most informative series of its kind I’ve ever seen. Thanks, Different Media. Having seen Ray Outfitted’s work before, I’m not surprised by the rigorous approach they took here to clearly identify every issue uncovered. They are a class act.

    What a helpful process for those of us on the cusp of creating our vans. Thank you so much Forrest and Ray Outfitted

    Thanks for sharing all this. People need to be aware of all these considerations when buying or building a van.

    It would be usefull if you could demonstrate the error in how the ceiling boards were fastened and show how to fasten them correctly

    • @Differentmedia

      Screw them into ribbing

    • @davideckenroth8394
      @davideckenroth8394 Рік тому +4

      What were they screwed into?
      They were cut to fit. Just remove and install correctly. I am a diy for my own projects. I cannot afford lumber and my time is not in high demand.
      If I don't recycle I cannot afford to build
      It was great drama for the wealthy campers but poor diyers need to know how to do it correctly not just see ranting demollition

      @@davideckenroth8394 Instead of nails and glue, attach with screws.

      @@skit220 that's alarming that they used nails. I can't imagine anybody doing that. Why didn't you say so in the video
      Are you saying the ceiling boards and over head cabinets were only glued and nailed to the metal?
      That cabinet looks quite solid and square as it was being pulled out.
      As a DYIer I would like to find a van in that condition since I have the time but little cash. So I would be glad to rework the build. I understand that when you have a production system it's not practicle

    These videos are a great service to the community. Ray Outfitted is amazing. I don't have the vehicle yet or live in Canada but I'd definitely consider them for a build consultation if I wasn't able to go in person.

    I appreciate that you don't want to call any one out here, but I think it's really a disservice to not disclose who the original outfitter was, so potential new customers can be aware.

      They shut down thankfully. But there are many more like them out there, so hopefully this series gives people the insights they need to make better decisions on who to hire

    I get the sentiment of the safety aspect and that there was water damage and excessive amounts of glue to many parts...but seeing the materials completely trashed and then thrown in the skip bin is a little shitty. Could have re-used some of the fixtures or the ply from the cabinets - even if not on this particular project. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

    What a shame. Van owners hard earned money gone to waste.
    Would be good to have a series on how it went back together.
    Thanks for sharing.

    I would have been sold this van seeing the finished interior. So shocking that the interior had to be gutted to fix all that was wrong with the build. Owner probably has to pay for demolition plus a complete new build.

    A truly exceptional video. Thank you so very very much for the masterclass. That's not a van, that's a Petri dish!!
    Thank you green-shirt lady; I can truly feel your passion and insight. Thank you so much.
    So basically, you're saying, just get a correctly made van from a reputable manufacturer that knows all the details. I surmise it's all very well making something *look* correct, but to *be* correct is a whole over level of understanding.

    Too bad the owner was not able to carefully dismantle the van to salvage the materials.
    I would have been happy to dismantle it for them so I could keep the contents for my own build

      Most of the wood was water damaged and worthless. Ray outfitted allowed me to salvage the electrical and plumbing and I plan to use it all in my off grid cabin.

    this has really changed my outlook on building out a van. How would you suggest to transport 2 small dogs in a van conversion? I know.. a crate. But where? How would you secure it? What type of crate would be strong enough?

    • @Differentmedia
      @Differentmedia  Рік тому

      I've seen people incorporate crates into their build, like this couple.

    so after 20 minutes of this video, what was the fundamental flaw that you mentioned at the start? not to use wood and plywood in subfloor? to treat the wood? not to insulate the structural bar? What???

    Where did the water come from? Did it come up thru the underside of the van? Or did it all come from the water tank leaking ?
