- Rescuer Scott, Practicing "toxing" and unconscious diver, a rescue skill we analyzed on our last IANTD "Essentials Instructor course
Aside of the obvious rescue bit, this skill requires equipment awareness (placement, function and control) , and will put the student in a situation where he or she will have to manage his/her buoyancy but also the toxing divers buoyancy.
On sidemount, equipment removal is a bit different and requires the backmount diver to have a close look at his/hers configuration before the dive.
THIS "TOXING " DIVER IS NOT AN EXACT DESCRIPTION OF ALL OXYGEN TOXICITY EVENTS BUT A WAY TO PRACTICE THE SKILLS A DIVER MIGHT NEED ONE DAY IN SUCH AN EVENT.
THE EXACT WAY OF HOW TO DEAL WITH A "TOXING" DIVER, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT DOWN ON PAPER

great video! thanks for taking the time and effort to do such a clear and helpful video. Sincerely appreciate it :)
Maybe a stupid question, but, why do you purge the regulator. I have not seen this technique in back mount yet. Secure regulator, yes, just haven't seen the purging.
Hi Olé, this is a technique that has been used for decades by the DIR agencies for a few reasons, if the diver would starts to breath again has or her lungs wouldnt be filled with Water and the diver would directly be breathing the right gas, due to the convulsions the diver might also breath.. May be shallow breatthing later on..some people way the airways might state open like this ..anyways a shitty situation
I find it odd you would choose to do a safety stop in an emergency situation.
Hey, practice..imagine this would be on a decodive
