I'm protestant and for us it doesn't matter what the pastors do, whether they are married, divorced, have children and a partner unmarried, are gay married (which they can do at church) or whatever. People will gossip if you are from the city and disrespect the local traditions though. By the way, we have Buß- und Bettag, which is also a day of repenting (basically) before the new year (Advent) and it's randomly on a Wednesday (instead of a Sunday) because we put it in afterwards because we were jealous of the Catholics and their confessions (basically again).
My parents also never bothered me with applying to university or studying, but mostly because they didn't know how that worked because they didn't go to the level of school I went to that qualifies for university. I also had the internet, so I was fine. It's a great time to be stupid anyway, especially when you live in a country without tuition and with student financial aid.
The ending thing Randall says about drinking and "blank lip it" I grew up around white skater kids who SAID THAT TO ME when I would ask for a sip of water or something. SHIT was insane
