A very little known way of resetting a PC Engine and a TurboGrafx 16 either Hucard or any CD game is press run and select at the same time and it takes you to either the cd hucard or reset the game you have in it. if you have a turbo ever drive in addition to what I mentioned there is a reset button on the ever drive that takes you back to the game menu on the ever drive. Also the North American Turbo Duo controllers used the PC Engine style plug on them. TTI used to sell what was called Duo adapters that allowed the use of Turbografx 16 controllers on a PC Engine or TurboDuo and also adapters to use PC Engine and TurboDuo controllers on a Turbografx 16. if you search Ebay you can still find these adapters today.
The PC Engine has some amazing games and graphics that are hard to believe came from a system that dates back to 1987. It was so cool experiencing some of those games for the first time recently when I bought my RGB modded PC Engine. Excellent vid Ron. I can’t wait until we Blast Off to the awesome Shuttle unboxing!
Sold all my Turboduo stuff about 6 years ago, sometimes I miss it, but I made a lot of money on selling (needed the money due to some crisis) but glad it could go onto someone like you who could enjoy what I had enjoyed for over 20+ years. I live vicariously through emulation now and I’m fine with that, I have the fond memories of this hardware all through my teens, 20’s and 30’s.
Sleepy Jarvis you are in luck Konami is making a Turbografx 16 mini in the Americas and Konami is also making Coregrfx in Europe and the PC engine in Japan so if you really want one of those you should pre-order one of them as soon as you can
The history of the Turbografx in Europe is quite obscure, nobody really knows what happened. NEC released it officially only, I believe, in the UK while France had a (grey?) import operation of Japanese PC engine units modded for their 50Hz TV system (wich is not PAL). Spain seems to have received units that look like the UK ones but have the euro power plug (wich is different from the british one). Rumors of a significant Austrian import are not proven. In Italy you could only order it for stellar prices in some of the very few independent stores that did parallel import in the 90's. Magazines started to hype the PC Engine in Italy in 1987, as soon as it was released in Japan, and then NEC gave us the middle finger as there was no release here. What a disaster. It was the console I wanted the most T_T
Also everyone saying “I wish it was smaller I would’ve liked that better” you say that, but back then bigger was better. All the smaller form factor Nintendo’s and Genesis were viewed as the cheap looking kiddy model. We have different views and tastes now than when we were kids in the 80’s.
Huge PC-engin and PC-FX fan and collector from day one, but I never knew the shuttle system was an original, as it's well known for being a knock off Korean and Taiwanese version is well known
It's crazy to think the Turbo Grafx has so much empty space inside. I wonder how things could have been had they gone with the Japanese design and Japanese box art rather than what was used in the states.
TG-16 is 16-bit in the way that mattered at the time, which is the GPU. If we worry about the CPU, the original Xbox had a 32 bit CPU yet nobody acts it was less capable than any of its competition.
TG-16, Core Grafx and PC Engine(PC Engine Duo-RX) ,are these the same consoles, only reissues? Graphics and music are the same as well as compatibility?)
I am surprised they sold any units anywhere, RF out, 1 player, only 2 buttons, and was to 1 up the NES being 16 bit-ish, Now we need Mutli-taps and add-on's, I bet if you wipe the Label off it say PolyMega. LoL
Hi guys I just got a white PC engine and a core graph unit in what I wanna ask is what power supplies should I use on these two units I will also be using a SD system three from Tara onion thanks I appreciate any help
Nice. I was actually thinking in getting one for my framemiester. I really think beetle fast even on a pi does a pretty good job. it prob has the least amount of latency out of the other emulators. I don't own a pc engine yet so idk if there is much of the difference. But only played a few games for the cd and card. What are your thoughts for something who played both? Im looking at the SUPER SD SYSTEM 3. But people have push that thing saying it's not that grate in the rgb department and has some sort of design flaw. It's very expensive for something with a flaw. From the other review video's i saw it looks pretty good. I heard ver 2 is better. Also herd voltor and some other guy is making a chip to fix rgb and some other stuff. Audio amp chip exists. It's all extra expenses. Some people said it may be a good idea to get a recaped modeed duo, but id still need a everdrive and burning the disks i hear is a pain. Im willing to dish out the big bills maybe but really should I save and stick with beetle fast on the pi since i havn't found anything wrong with it yet. For something that costs that much you would think you would get a whole system
I know. The retro pi doesn't have that feature. But beetle fast does use a speed hack that is why it's called fast. which i find ruduses latancy by alot. IDK how it compares cuz i don't have a pc engine. I use the pi in the living room thou. my pc is in the pc room. I am planing on making a mini pc build using my current pc parts in a smaller case for the living room with some sort of program like big box.
ok. what you have to say about beetle fast on the pi and the actual hardware. I notice no latency like i do for the Nintendo emulators. IDK if ill come across emulator problems thou. as i only played a few games. sometimes you gotta compare. as someone who hasn't played most of the games i just don't know if a game is missing something.
it will prob run me like $600 in my country for everything. it's kinda scary actually. Whatever. it just means working alot of double. im yong i can do it.
I don't know if I agree with the size analysis. You have to think about how we were in the 80s. The smaller one looks toy like. I appreciate it now, but compared to the huge Nes , most of us dumb kids would have equated size with power.
Awesome video, I have the white one, curious about the shuttle being a budget console. Looking forward to that video as well. Wait, did Sega rip off that circular indent and use it in the megadrive? What was also very misleading calling int he megaDRIVE. Back then I was doubting, does it have a cd drive in there? I love Sega, but pc-engine > Megadrive colors + audio push the pc-engine in front for me. Back then I also thought that the Turbo Graphx 16 was a SuperGrafx Turbo Graphx 16 is hideous, pc-engine is a beauty so is the Supergrafx As for the PAL release, I bet NEC just pulled the plug early while the European release was being rolled out. NEC is very strange in that respect. Avenue 6 highly recommended, d-pad is a bit small, but plays fine! A few other fighting games also use 4 out of the 6 buttons (for the neo ports)
Bigger is better 'Merica! Lol the turbografx American marketing/ localization teams killed the system almost single handedly. They were offered an EXCLUSIVE on Mortal Kombat, but they declined because they thought Americans were tired of fighting games!!
People who made those localization decisions back then we're so disconnected from the real American audience. Best example would be cover art for really any system honestly. Like the Super Famicom box art is usually so so much better than the SNES, same with Dreamcast. Annoying.
Dont worry prices will go back down. Retro gaming is the "cool" thing right now but eventually it will fade out just like any trend does. Im just sitting back waiting for it. Just gotta be patient.

The Pc Engine the little engine that could!
Love it! Gotta be one of the smallest consoles ever.
I think i can, i think i can, Too small for the shelf for the time's, would make the shelf look empty
Wish they would have made that form factor here in the states instead!
We’re on the same wavelength. Just bought a Core Grafx and the Super SD System 3 the other night. Gonna play Rondo of Blood when I get it.

Another system I should never had sold so many years ago, but what really hurts is the Turbo Duo I gave up.
The more I learn about the turbografx 16 I feel very privileged to have had a friend who lived 2 houses down who owned one along with about 20 games.
unboxing retro games systems is genius idea, this was fascinating stuff
Awesome review I'm glad your putting the tg16 use!!!
Ive always wanted a TurboGrafx16 & the Core, or PCEngine
Sleepy Jarvis you are in luck Konami is making a Turbografx 16 mini in the Americas and Konami is also making Coregrfx in Europe and the PC engine in Japan so if you really want one of those you should pre-order one of them as soon as you can
Do you think you'll do a video on the "super SD System 3" from terraonion?

I'm pretty sure the Virgin Megastores in the UK sold a grey import version of the PC Engine which were also modded, this time for PAL.
New subscriber. This is great content 👏
16:34 Yay! Fireball!🔥

that was 1994, toward the end. at that point we already saw 3D0 and PSone... i'm talking 89-90 when this stuff first launched.
I love my turbo grafx 16 ,that machine was awesome.
I never had one growing up, but had a couple friends who had them. I remember being really impressed and wishing I could get one! haha
The TurboGrafx controller might have a bad cable. Whenever mine acted up, it was always the cord.
Just so you know there is a reset on these systems. You just push in all the face buttons and hold for a second.
Love these systems
hell yeah! Fun systems to play, tons of awesome games!
One of the greatest home consoles ever.
One thing you left out was could you play pc engine hu cards on the turbo grafx console & vice versa,
Huge PC-engin and PC-FX fan and collector from day one, but I never knew the shuttle system was an original, as it's well known for being a knock off Korean and Taiwanese version is well known
That console looks interesting.
such an underrated console
PC Engine was doing S series and minis before it was thought about. PS1 did it afterwards. We will not talk about Atari…..
It's crazy to think the Turbo Grafx has so much empty space inside. I wonder how things could have been had they gone with the Japanese design and Japanese box art rather than what was used in the states.

I came across a thread somewhere that the TurboEverdrive can play CD games. Has that been your experience? I thought it was only the Hue Cards.
TG-16, Core Grafx and PC Engine(PC Engine Duo-RX) ,are these the same consoles, only reissues? Graphics and music are the same as well as compatibility?)
Nice! Dropped a like. :)
Alright awesome!!
Triple cheeseburger here dude!!! Hehe
Which one would you suggest I pick up?

I use this power supply for my coregrafx castlemaniagames.com/collections/turbo-grafx-16/products/triad-power-supply-ac-dc-9v-1-3a?ref=mlp
Nice. I was actually thinking in getting one for my framemiester.

The system does have a hell alot of shoot em ups. and some 2d platformers

That shuttle pc engine kinda looks like a Atari Jaguar
Wait, PCEngine and Turbografx controllers are not compatible?
Nope. When I was first getting into TG-16 and PC Engine a few years ago I discovered that... kind of a bummer
Awesome video, I have the white one, curious about the shuttle being a budget console. Looking forward to that video as well.

Hardware info?

Its about time to go Metric, like the rest of the World
Bigger is always better (not)
People who made those localization decisions back then we're so disconnected from the real American audience. Best example would be cover art for really any system honestly. Like the Super Famicom box art is usually so so much better than the SNES, same with Dreamcast. Annoying.
them online prices made my eyes bleed....yikes. When breaking out scale, wipe some flour off for "sure thing" comments.
Yeah man it's crazy. They were $50 to $60 a year ago. Ever since the Super sd system came out the prices went up
Dont worry prices will go back down. Retro gaming is the "cool" thing right now but eventually it will fade out just like any trend does. Im just sitting back waiting for it. Just gotta be patient.
