- Here it is! The epoxy color pour on my opal countertop project.
After much (anxious) deliberation, and coming the web for opal images, I struck on the concept to imitate Boulder Opal. I love the complimentary colors and stark contrast between the fiery opal and raw stone.
I apologize, my daughter called me near the end and stopped the video prematurely. Again 🤨 I knew it happened but my hands were gloppy and I couldn’t stop! 😄
After priming and painting, I did “underpainting” with cellophane, aqua glitter and champagne gold spray paints, misted with alcohol.
For the epoxy, I used a number of techniques including dirty pouring, and “smudging”.
After filming stopped, I continued to work the piece in the following ways:
Turquoise and fire opal glitter/mylar veins
White, turquoise and shimmery grey green marbeling, feathered with heat gun
Gold spray paint veins, applied with a stick and misted with alcohol
Turquoise mica in alcohol, spritzed over areas
White and walnut spray paints over misted and spritzed with alcohol.
I used Stonecoat countertop epoxy, about a gallon for the color coat on this 17 sq ft counter. I always have to mix lots extra for
When it felt done, and set enough, I pulled the tape... and tweaked a tiny bit more, lol.
This was not your everyday commercial countertop, for sure! It was a work of art, and why this client chose me to do this countertop. I’m so grateful for clients like this who provide me the opportunity to express my creativity in this way!! Can’t wait to get the clear coat on today!
I hope you enjoy watching my process, and the final result. I welcome your comments and questions, and please remember to “like and subscribe”!
Cheers!

That is an amazing job 👍🏻👌🏻

Just spectacular! One question....did you spritz tinted resin with alcohol immediately after spraying paint onto board? Thank you!
Thank you! 🙏🏻 If you mean, do I immediately spritz the alcohol over the tinted resin that’s been applied and then over sprayed with spray paint, the short answer is, yes. The long answer is... if you do the spray paint and alcohol application too soon when the epoxy is too fluid you can lose your cool “cells” effects. If you wait until it is too set up, the paint dries too quickly and you don’t get the effects. That said, when that’s happened, I’ve heated it with a heat gun (be very careful you don’t scorch it!) to reactivate (liquify) the epoxy and respritzed with alcohol with good results. I hope this answered your question. 😊
This is GORGEOUS! How long have you been using epoxy? I want to do my kitchen countertops but am V scared! I love these colors! Where did you get the opal cellophane?
Elaine Diggs thank you so much! I went for training a year ago. I had a special job opportunity and wanted to learn hands on. I’ve only done a few professionally, since then, but I’m starting to get more referrals, and I finally have an awesome studio for all my artistic pursuits! 😄 I got the cellophane from Michaels.
Does the Epoxy stick to the paper or do you do something to it?
Hi, it seems to stick just fine. I don’t do anything special.
