    There needs to be a full length documentary on Kanye and his producing. From beginning to now how his style has changed and how he picks his samples and beats and the process he goes through to make a song from start to finish. To hear the stories of the studio would be amazing.

    People find it funny to make fun of Kanye West and say he's not a genius, but musically he IS a genius, no other artist EVER, has taken such a journey through musical evolution in their career, like Kanye West has. Listen to College Drop Out, then Late Registration, then Graduation, then 808s, then Dark Fantasy, and tell me that isn't an insane evolution that could never be replicated.

    • @Jayblack1984

      Kanye's a dope artist and producer, but genius is a bit of a stretch. To say Kanye is a musical genius is to put him in the same category as a Mozart or a Beethoven. Quincy Jones himself said as much. He used to compose full scores on napkins in restaurants without even hearing anything he was composing. Kanye will never be able to do that.

    • @YourPalHDee
      @YourPalHDee 7 років тому +65

      Jayblack1984 I've got to say like, things like that aren't proven. And is genius defined by those surrounding?
      like how we say Dogs are intelligent.. they're really not, they're stupid as fuck, but compared to most animals they are.
      My opinion is that Kanye is a musical genius. He's evolved and pushed music forward more than anybody else in the past like 5 generations of music.

    • @Jayblack1984
      @Jayblack1984 7 років тому +4

      Again, that's a bit of a stretch considering the long list of producers that have come before him whose accomplishments literally evolved the sonic landscape of music. Agree to disagree.

    I think a LOT of the people commenting here need to learn about the sample culture. It's not just finding a sample and then taking the sound and using it. If that's the case anybody that's ever used a digital recreation of any SOUND at all is SAMPLING that sound. He's not sampling drums, he's not sampling rhythm, he's not sampling lyrics...he is taking old songs and finding creative ways to make them sound new and refreshing and reintroducing them to the world again. Sampling in itself is an art form, but hey, haters have a job to do, so don't let me stop you.

      not to deny anything of what you said, I agree mostly, the only remark though: art has become probably the most underrated and misused word of our century. making music out of samples is of a form of art, not sampling.

      s4lmon Every major musician, every talented artist, especially electronic musicians draw inspiration from others. You're a fool if you think sampling is indicative of a lack of musical talent. People bag on Ye for sampling Daft Punk. That Daft Punk song itself is filled with samples.

      Dermot Roche bandawhat33 Those are great legends sir but you have to understand that hip-hop culture is based a whole lot on sampling these greats from the past. It pays homage to what was done in the past and sometimes gives those songs a second life in a new genration. I personally enjot looking up the songs sampled in my favourite hip hop music and just enjoying the good music from the past. Kanye is an extensively talented producer, and the way he makes use of classic soul and rock music was unprecedented. He revolutionised the entire industry. His lyrics usually have a lot more substance than most of the "rappers" that we have today. Sure he has his personality flaws but I don't think that should take away from his talent and all that he has done for the hip hop culture and music industry as a whole.

    • @bandawhat33
      @bandawhat33 9 років тому +1

      Brent Titus he has no musical talent. He doesn't write the songs or compose the music... He can't play an instrument. He doesn't sing. Any idiot can rap. the people working for him are the ones that sample the music and put it all together. that's not talent at all. i personally don't like his rapping but if anything let's say you do... you'd have to say that he's a good lyricist or poet but you can't call him a musician because he's not. music just aint his thing. and we live in a pretty a.d.d. culture today where people have the attention span of a fish and so people can't enjoy a song anymore without some baboon like kanye west spreading his idiot message and "rapping" through it and basically ruining a beautiful song.

      He didn't really push the genre he just made it more aware. Whatever Yeezus was Death Grips had that sound first. Kanye just made it mainstream though his effort wasn't as good as what Death Grips had on Money Store or in fact any of there albums. Don't get me wrong Yeezus is good but I think people have over exaggerated the albums content.

      Victor Gonzalez Go and listen to "Ready to Die" again and rethink your life. Half of the album is about how poor he was and things he had to do to survive. Also, your comment didn't relate to the original at all.thedondon911911 Biggie wasn't a producer, meaning he wasn't responsible for whether or not his beats contained samples. He's considered a genius as a songwriter/lyricist, which has nothing to do with how people feel about Kanye. Wolf Haley Funny how out of all the lyrics he's ever said that's the one that you felt compelled to quote. I'll let you figure out the implications of that.

    When was the last time you heard a rapper make a religious song popular?

    Who introduced the new generation to old school music through sampling?
    Who told told the world that "George Bush hates black people"

    When I was picking college classes in 99, I saw there were classes on recording studio engineering and a whole program on it....obsessed with music my entire life I thought learning to produce would be living out a dream...but I let my fear of the unknown/being a female in a male-dominated environment consume me and I didn't pursue it. Fear has always held me back but I give a lot of credit to Kanye's openness in pursuing his dreams and not being driven by fear to inspire me now that I'm in my 30s. I still fantasize about producing records though.

      You should fight for your dream... It must be hard being a female trying to succeed in the music industry, but it's definitely not impossible, I'm pretty sure you are talented, don't be afraid, you CAN do it :)), everything is hard in the beginning, and if you don't try... You'll never know... I have a similar dream, and I am afraid at times, or doubtful, but we need to try, and enjoy it, cause at the end of the day... Is our passion :).

      +Stephanie Moran that happens to me very often, my dream is being a pop singer/songwriter/producer, and I'm studying music right now, and I have singing classes at school, but I'm very insecure about my voice, even though I've been told that I'm good, and even when I have to practice, I get afraid, and sometimes I don't even practice because of the fear, I think I just don't feel good enough. Sometimes what helps me, even when it might sound depressive, is that everyone will die someday, and it won't matter if we succeeded or not, or our mistakes, there will not be people to judge what happened, the point is to enjoy what we do, no matter were it takes us, if you love it, go for it :)).
