I very much relate to this comment…these will immediately go into my basket on Amazon, then of course sit in a drawer for months on end until I bump into another video on them and finally (maybe) use them. 😂
I ordered the tempera sticks just now based on how other media works with it. Excited to try them with my gelatos! Oh crap…I just bought more art supplies 😂
Happy accident of finding your channel. What beautiful work you do. I have every color of Gelato ever made. So expensive. I just bought the 20 pastels in Tempera. Simply gorgeous colors. Watching your video I sent for this 32 color set. You are an enabler, I am an art supply hoarder, natural I subscribed 😂 TYFS. Hugs, British Kate in 🇺🇸
Every time I watch your videos, I have an impulse to take out some art supplies and play with them :) And I do! :D Those gelatos colours are just perfect and both gelatos and tempera sticks look like they're very fun to work with.
I really like the advice and wisdom you pass on. I am wanting to do art so badly but compare myself too bad effects. Your wise counsel helps me over come that block.
I know how easy it is to fall into that comparison trap, but remember, your artistic journey is unique to you. The more you create, the more you'll see the beauty in your own work and progress. Keep going, and don't be too hard on yourself-every brushstroke is a step forward!
Beautiful sketchbooks ❤ Interesting to see how the gelatos and tempera sticks perform - Thankyou so much for sharing! I look forward to seeing how you create your printed textured grounds 😊
I love seeing how you might use the tempera sticks! I bought them a while ago after seeing them in a Sandi Hester video where she got them as a fun gift. But, I couldn't quite figure out how to use them without them looking too bright, but you did it! Gorgeous florals! Cant wait to see more!
Thank you so much for your video, it popped up at just the right time, it gave me a blissful rest from the outside world, and I feel inspired again to embrace my art and all the mistakes I might make along the way .✌️💐
I bought 60 Kingart and have been trying to make art with tempera sticks alone. The brightness and transparency have been a problem. You've given me some ideas for mixed media and maybe I should try a gray or tan paper.
I love the shuttle art tempura sticks, but they are super bright! They also make a 20 piece pastel set which is a great addition for more subtle applications
Great video, thanks Ohn Mar. I like that you are so open minded about using different art materials, and not too quick to dismiss cheaper art supplies. I also use Tim Holtz Distress Crayons, which seem very similar to Gelatos (although I only have the opaque ones to compare to). They come in some nice earthy tones and readily available (Art shops & Amazon!). Makes me want to get mine out for some messy play!
I recently just got all the gelatos, now I want all the tempuras. Unfortunately the translucent gelatos are discontinued, so that is probably why you paid so much on eBay. I got mine from a online craft store in the US at regular price. The tempuras made your artwork pop and it turned out beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Keep creating 💛💙💜
It’s a shame the Gelatos in Europe / Uk are tricky to find & very expensive as they are very portable for location sketching. Folks are chiming in with suggestions for alternatives so will keep looking
Ohn Mar, how do you store your art supplies so you remember what is where? I think i simply forget about an opportunity to use and art supply because it’s not in front of me and organized not in the best way…
lovely video! I love paint sticks!!I own a set from the brand playcolor. I especially like that they dry up in the end making them easier to use in a sketchbook opposed to oil pastels for example.
If you’d like to use tempera sticks with colours that are a bit more muted, I can recommend Kwik Stix. I still prefer the gelatos over the tempera sticks though
I have the translucent set of gelatos which I also purchased regular price from a small craft shop her in the US. After your video I checked out shuttle art tempura sticks and found they have a pastel set of 18, so I ordered those. I love gelatos but unless you activate them with water (or baby wipe) I find they never dry and remain tacky and can smudge for quite some time, which is tough in a sketchbook. I hope these tempura sticks dry a little faster
Loved this one it was so inspiring and it just had the creative juices flowing!😂 Thanks for sharing! Do you have a video of how you make the texture background on the gelli plate? I have to admit I loved that texture you made and am brand new to gelli, but I can't wait to watch how you do it! Thanks again!😊
Very interesting to see this excellent demonstration, Ohn Mar, as have often wondered about how those two products compared and differed. I could see the paper in your sketchbook was pilling when you added water, tho’…..is that right, or was I mistaken ? Always look forward to your videos, and am especially enjoying your classes on Skillshare . I procrastinated for so long before I joined 😂😂
The paper in the royal talens sketchbook doesn’t take much abuse. I find that it pills very easily. But the upside is that it’s a cheap cheap sketchbook to play in and I think it’s great for these experiments although Ohn Mar has created the most gorgeous paintings in hers :-)
Have you tried gel sticks? These are also marketed as being for children and are inexpensive. They seem similar to the Gelatos I have. Gel sticks are water soluble and blendable with finger tip. I often use them in a fairly heavy application, blending them together like oil pastels, but they do dry, so great for sketchbooks. You can also use them really thickly and get texture.
@@OhnMarWinArt Oops, the key word I left out was crayon. Gel crayon sticks. Faber-Castell and Marabu have expensive sets of these, but they look pretty similar to the Kingart brand ones I have. Kingart also makes tempera sticks so I don't think they're the same. Other companies make the gel crayon sticks as well. I've recently seen a set of soft pastel colours that is tempting me...
Thank you for sharing your scratch book with us I adore your style and have learned so much from you since I followed you, I have had so many different colours of these stickers and would like to send you some if you let me🙏🫶❤️
“Made for kids rather than someone with an art supply problem” 😂
I just can't help myself
As someone with an art supply problem I felt that deeply. 😅😅
😂 How many of us fit that profile?
I very much relate to this comment…these will immediately go into my basket on Amazon, then of course sit in a drawer for months on end until I bump into another video on them and finally (maybe) use them. 😂
I'm a big kid with an art supply problem lol
"....no mistakes....only opportunities to learn and grow...." I love this. Play is my game. I just loved watching this. Thank you.
I appreciate the attitude of “How these are useful.” As opposed to just like or dislike. Good or bad. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the review, I teach 3rd grade and love to do projects based learning. These are going to be a great addition to our classroom art supplies.
I ordered the tempera sticks just now based on how other media works with it. Excited to try them with my gelatos! Oh crap…I just bought more art supplies 😂
I have my gelatos for many years and I loved them! It‘s pure beautiful pigment and they won't be empty.
I totally agree!

... and now Shuttle Arts has a pastel set of tempera sticks ...😛
oo i've never heard of gelatos and tempera paint sticks! so cooll - thanks for sharing ohn mar!

Ooh, might have to add these to my very long wishlist! I too have an art supply problem :D
I’ve heard gelato are being discontinued so they might be really difficult to get hold of. I am still hunting around for alternatives.

Yes... most definitely, Ohn Mar's artwork in that book is delightful !
it was that particular sketchbook which is made for mixed media rather than watercolour, so yes you did see piling of paper
Ohmygod so temptedddd 😂❤ i love bright colours so this might be it for me haha
Go for it!
So fun!

Wonderful!
Thanks for this. Really useful.

I have a few sets of Gelatos and have tried for years to complete my sets…impossible I’m afraid. I still need 23…😅
Thank you for the video. It's beautiful but too much plastic for me.
I understand
Unfortunately Faber Castell no longer makes the Transluscents…cannot find them anywhere 😞 so odd because the colors are beautiful.
No wonder they're tricky to find
I have a problem with gelatos, they transfer to the next page. Do they do the same in your skechbook ? or did you "varnish" the pages?
I am not too bothered by that. It might be worth putting in a thin piece of paper between the pages.
on camera they look like oil pastels
