    My dad worked as an Apple Education systems engineer for an Apple reseller. They were cleaning the warehouse at work and at one point he brought like two of these home (circa 2000) and my brother and sister and I would play network games with them. A lot of Bolo!

      if not mistaken it was Apple who recommended to raise their Apple ///, 5 inches from a table and then drop them down - hoping to re-seat the ICs which might have come out because of lack of ventilation! :D

    So glad I got this in my recommended, instant subscribe! No music, no voiceover, just the sights & sounds of giving a well-used PowerMac the respect it deserves. I find this very similar to that one Toyota Sienna detailing video that blew up a few years back, but this is right up my vintage Mac alley. I can't wait to see what you do in the future, hopefully you can tackle a Mac Plus (it's beautifully simple to work on).

    I absolutely love your style of videos. I used these computers when I was in Kindergarten. We had the walls lined with this specific model, probably about 12 of the 5400 model in total . I remember it very fondly. I was always running to get to one to play Thinkin' Things Collection 1 on it. I am glad someone has a deep passion for preserving these computers.

    What an amazing restoration - and video. I know how long it takes to make those close-ups.
    One suggestion when you re-install SMD caps: apply solder on one pad, add flux, solder the pad. THEN, apply solder to the other pad. If you apply solder to both, the capacitor won't reach the PCB. It'll work I guess but if you do one at the time and make sure the first pad has reached the PCB, then the second pad will be in place to take solder.
    Looking forward to the next video!

    Great work-slow, careful, meticulous, but fast-paced in the editing. Subbed! In the late '90s I had a 5200CD (same form factor). It was famously underpowered, but the I/O was pretty robust for an all-in-one. I was fond of it.

      @@KevinFields777 good question. I didn’t track my time, but it was probably around 40-50 hours spread over a week. The end use depends on the computer… most of the projects on my channel are going into a big video installation at my office, some are working / interactive displays, and a couple are gifted to friends.

    That big pile of AIOs at the beginning.. what happened to the rest of them? I’ve been trying to fix a AIO G3 but there’s an issue with the analogue or power board and nothing I’ve done has been able to fix it. Would there happen to be any that could be salvaged from that pile perhaps?

    • @iiidiy
      @iiidiy  2 дні тому

      Maaaaybe, but they were in VERY rough shape. I picked up the one in my AIO video last winter, around Dec/Jan and he had several dozen back then. By the time I went back in April, they had been picked through and he was down to the dregs, maybe a dozen or two left, but all in pretty awful condition. He probably still has some left, and you could get a parts machine for cheap, but the parts will all be suspect. Feel free to reach out directly of Mastadon or email if you want to chat further about it

      @@iiidiy thanks for the reply! Ah I suspect that’ll be a dead end then as I want a confirmed working power and analogue board. I’m in the UK where these things were never sold, so trying to get ahold of something to even test it with is near on impossible. Of course shipping a whole unit over here is impossible too as it’d arrive as a surprise jigsaw puzzle.
