This is an ideal first contact with Arca, really. Prada and Rakata could be two of the few examples in her discography that are more accessible to a casual listener, since it’s drawing from reggaetón and a more “poppy” song structure here (more examples in her Kick i and Kick ii albums).
Most of her music really does take the experimentation further in the electronic side of things and, this may be my own personal opinion, but I wouldn’t consider her to be hyperpop. She may lean towards this genre a few times but she’s never fully identifying in it. The key to understanding her as a musician (and as a person even) is quite well reflected in these two videos: always morphing and birthing something new.
If you’re familiar with Björk, you probably know she can’t be easily defined as an artist. I’d say it’s the same with Arca here: she has her own universe and the composing behind it has a clear and unique style to it.
All this to say that the music videos only approach won’t be enough if you want to understand her. Partly because she hasn’t made many MVs, but mostly because she has so much variety even within one album. I think I’ve read you don’t do albums on your channel but, if you’re willing enough and intrigued enough, I (or someone on here) could definitely compile a list of “essential” songs of hers you should listen to. Then you’d take 2-3 titles at a time and react to them in different videos. Let us know, no pressure if you don’t feel like it!

After reacting to her new song, I completely agree with you. This definitely had more of a raggae sound, which were the drums I was latching onto.
I apologize for calling it hyperpop. It's a newer genre I discovered and was under the impression that most experimental music would fall under that category, but I should have just called it experimental.
I know 0 about Björk 😂but I understand the idea of having your own universe. It's clear that Arca does what Arca does, and does it effectively! It's VERY hard to describe, but it makes everything uniquely them!
While I am trying to understand every artist I react to, it's not a main concern for me or this channel. I mostly want to bring entertainment and education to my reactions, which is why I'm constantly making jokes and breaking down techniques used by the artist. Unfortunately reacting to just a song alone wouldn't provide much entertainment to the viewer, and my Arca reactions already get lower amounts of views.

While you've softly suggested content for me to check out in your comment, I'd like to formally ask you if there is a music video you'd like me to react to. New artists are more likely to be covered sooner, since a theme of my channel is to cover as many different artists as I can, so that people can find new music through my reactions.

Absolutely no need to apologize, we're all learning and that's what we're here for. I'm still getting acquainted with your channel and the content you want to create for yourself and for the people watching your videos, so I really appreciate you wanting to stay true to your intentions and viewers. Numbers weren't that great for the two reactions you did on her, so I get what you mean. In case you were to go back for some more of her, then do check out the MVs for "Nonbinary" and "Mequetrefe".
That being said... for future reactions on other artists, here's a few titles you could take a look at:
- Björk: "All is full of love" and "Army of Me"
- Rosalía: "La Fama" and "Saoko"
- FKA twigs: "Sad Day"
Funnily enough, all three of them have worked with Arca at some point in their career.
You can take your time with these, of course. Just throwing them out there.

@@kylespevak6781 I'd suggest grimes (early works are a bit more experimental, newer stuff is more main-stream for the most part), eartheater (very experimental with incorporation of more ambient sounds, while partly still leaning towards electronic/dance; depends on album) and charli xcx (mostly hyperpop, except for the earlier albums and crash - her newest album, which are more pop oriented) for the start (no idea if you know/have already reacted to any of those; I'm new to the channel :))
other artists I enjoy are:
tr/st, pastel ghost, namasenda, sky ferreira, caroline polachek, oklou, kilo kish, sevdaliza, gfoty, shygirl, sidewalks and skeletons, santigold, roisin murphy, muna, weyes blood, and others
I don't really know your audience and if their taste in music leans in my direction, but maybe you could react to any of the earlier listed artists if a few people suggest them, I'm just throwing everything I got out here :)

Arca's amazing! and yea she's a trans Venezuelan producer. since you like more straightforward hip hop you probably know her production on Yeezus. would recommend some more arca songs but I feel like it won't be your thing even though I think her series of KiCk albums released last year are incredible. check out Kick iii if you like stuff like Death Grips though
I am open to everything! I grew up listening to System of a Down and screamo covers of pop songs, so hyperpop and it's similar genres are right up my alley

The whole two songs are sung in Spanish, not a "Indian", nor a ficticious language as you believed.
The imaginery of the first part is centered on the myth of María Lionza, a Venezuelan deity. Arca's image over the "danta" and the pedestal is set to remind the María Lionza huge statue placed on the main highway in Caracas.
Well he's not wrong. The whole music video has eastern left hand path elements to it. By left hand path i meant Hinduism. If you look at 4:12 that's goddess of destruction kali right there. and at 10:38 that's how hindu rituals called puja's are performed. Also the bulls throughout the video. @@Fein811 in other words, imposing an outside cultural perspective/mythology on a rich indigenous culture (mesoamerica is hella diverse) without reference to said culture is wrong. One doesnt need to invoke Adolf Bastian and the notion of elementargedanken to make an epistemological point, but maybe a western POV will get the point across, given the context of this commentary. We can discuss this in many ways, however. End of the day, give reference to mesoamerican traditions, which also share many of the same archetypes you are trying to point out, if you are going to discuss Arca. If you cant relate your references to the source material than sit on the side lines. Or at the very least frame your commentary under the notion that you are merely trying to draw connections to cultural archetypes across cultures.

Aye I love arca. Her music is wild and her visuals are dope. She’s a talented DJ and singer. There’s a lot of trans symbolism in this music video because arca is trans. I’m still trying to decipher everything about the music video, but I love looking at it so much. Great reaction! 👍

Since you mentioned that you grew up listening to system of a down & other metal/hardcore styles of music, she soooooo worth doing more reactions to. Obviously she’s not metal, but having a history of enjoying hardcore genres indicates that your musical ear is most likely primed enough to enjoy her other stuff. (At least that’s how I think it worked out for me.😊)
Her album KicK iii is one of her best, albeit not for everybody. But if you weren’t scared away by Sophie, then your mind will certainly be blown by KicK iii. It tends to be an overstimulating experience for most first-time listeners (even me, a long time fan🙃) but it’s so so so worth-it. She reallllly challenges her audience’s pre-conceived notions about what good music is “supposed” to sound like. It’s actually quite inspiring for fellow creatives.
(Not to mention that Arca reaction videos tend to pull a decent amount of views…. She has a sizable fanbase, but most mainstream reaction channels don’t react to her stuff. So we tend to gravitate to anyone who will listen!)
Nevertheless, whether you decide to react to more of her stuff or not, I loved this reaction! You’re very smart, intuitive, and open-minded. Best of luck continuing with your own music!

Please do more research before blind reacting to a video. “Satany” “Is this a chant?” “What language is this if it’s a language” It’s going to make your videos sound more intelligent. This reaction just wasn’t it. Doing your research on the singer as well would be able to help you with their pronouns (which are she/they/it).
Also, face shopping is about being trans & choosing the face you want to see in the mirror. This video by Arca is very similar in that it’s trans & nonbinary. “Second Puberty”. The trans community is so beautiful.
However, I’m happy you enjoyed & liked the music. I think just doing more research, or any research at all, will help with your page.
Thank you for your feedback! You're telling me contradictory things though. How can I react blindly when I have researched? Instead, I like to be educated by commenters like you, especially when it comes to things I don't understand like trans identity and languages I don't speak. Sadly, if you want non-blind reactions before I've come to know the artist, this isn't the channel for you.
Usually I do know a bit about the artist I cover (because i started with people I like) but now that I get requests for artists I haven't heard, I want the person who requested it to seem my unfiltered reaction.

Faceshopping can be about many things such as the commodification of beauty through easily accessible plastic surgery nowadays OR how beauty is perceived on the internet when a lot of it is fake. Seen a lot of takes on it all sound very plausible, so the trans angle is just one side of the story
