Hi! Huge fan, I have been watching all of your videos and am learning so much! I saw that you had trouble producing the name of the lake in Mexico, the way one would pronounce the name is Show-Chi-Meel-Co and the way one pronounces Axolotl is actually Ah-show-low-T'. This comes from my native language Nawatl, Nah-what. Another fun fact the word Axolotl is two words put together, the first part is water, Atl Ah-t and the second part is Xoloitzcuintli Show-low-cu-wean-t-lee which means strange looking dog. In our creation story, the Xolotl the twin of Quetzalcoatl and Xolotl who was supposed to uphold his duty in the creation of the new world decided to run away and morphed into multiple kinds of plants and animals before landing as the an axolotl which didn't fool the wise Quetzalcoatl. In our story, he is supposed to give a sacrifice of the highest order which was themselves and would be reborn again but even more glorious than before. Except for Xolotl who was cursed to stay in the form of the axolotl 🤓 hope this was fun little read! Thank you for being awesome!
Can you give me a list of names in that language, I’m from Mexico buz grew up in the USA so I don’t know many names except for Xochil. I’ll appreciate it if you respond to my message. Thx in advance!!
This video is too sweet. You really love these animals! Flixl looks like toothless! I just started looking at setting up an axolotl tank and so happy to have come across your video!
i feel like it should have been mentioned to use a cooling system in place of a heater if someone lives in a warmer place. I only really know the very basics about these cuties, but that's something i've read is important to have during the summer if you don't have AC and live somewhere that gets hot. My fish room stays at a steady 26 degrees or higher this time of year since our trailer has a tin roof so even my jarred bettas don't get cold lol. would be way too warm for for an Axolotl ;3;
Hi Frankie, I hope this finds you well. youre a super likeable person who loves his axolytls. But I have an issue, need advice. I have a 9 to 10 in axo(Lucy). I feed her exclusively earthworms, she gobbles them up. I rinse them off prior to feeding. But every two to three weeks, I MUST break down her entire 30gl. tank and wash top to bottom. Reason? it seems that her water gets perhaps too much uric acid in water? water becomes discolored. Then I refill with fresh cold water with slime protective additive, and water anti-stress water conditioner. I sure could use some advice from a dude I trust. Gil
Hi, I'm 16 and have just bought two axolottles. My dad owns chilids and has never owned axolottles before so all of this is new😅. Your videos have been so much help! Thank you !❤
Frankie's Aquatics it’s been confirmed that I will be getting my axie in about a month (once I prepare everything) and heck yeah! The info in this video combined with a few others gave me a whole textbook full of info! Thank you 😄
seafoamyy_ if it was gold I was gonna name it golden experience, if pink it’s name would be bubblegum, if black I would just give it my name so I guess Jr.
Thanks Frankie a few pointers I've not heard u say before being a novice water pup owner have many other questions can't wait for u to come back in June hope the breaks goin good and all the family too.
Hey I’m new to Axalotle care I did some research on the little critters and found out I can’t put gravel in the aquarium any ideas of what I can put in there?
New subscriber and new axie owner.... wanted to find out if an axolotl about 3 1/2-4" is ok to put with an axolotl that is about 4 1/2-5". My only concern is that the little one may be close to blind because every time something touches it it freaks out and runs into everything trying to hide.
Hi Frankie! LOVE your videos. My granddaughter's name is Frankie. :) I just started 3-40 gallon tanks. I had cycled filters and was told, by the reputable breeder I bought them from, that I could place the Axolotls in the tank within 24 hours of starting the filters. The little ones are in the tank, but I'm worried it's a mistake. They are all juveniles born on Oct 7th. There are 11 of them... long story. Anyway... I only have them in 2 tanks. They are all eating and look healthy. My concern is that the AM is at 1 in both tanks, Nitrite is at 0 and Nitrate is at 0. What can I do to balance this out? They have been in the tanks for 3 days now and I changed the water out today because I was worried about the Am. I had an adult that I have had for 9 days, and she was not looking well when she arrived, and she died today. Broke my heart. I had removed her yesterday and put her in 3 gallons of conditioned water, and I lost her today. From the day she arrived, she did not eat 1 bite. There are 2 juveniles that came from the same breeder in the group of 11 that are not looking very well either. They eat, but not great. I'm worried they are going to die also. Just not sure what to do and I really do not want to have any more lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I only have water conditioner in the tanks. I feed them red wigglers. Water temp is consistently at 66. There is a plant in the tank. filters are air with sponge filters. Thy have a cave. No substrate. Ok, sorry for so many questions. I trust your opinion on this more than the breeder.
Do you have a video on how and what to feed them as babies, juvenile and adult. And what size is considered adult? Mine is about 5 inches. I tried feeding him a earth worm cut it in half then in thirds he only nibbled in it. So then I put brine shrimp and he ate a little more. Iv only had him for two days.
Hi Kristen, I don't believe I have a single video that covers your questions, however I do answer many of the questions throughout where possible. I will however do a video covering the basics very soon so thank you for your suggestions! Axolotls usually take a year or so, depending on appetite to reach adult size, however they can gradually grow throughout their lives. Pixel, my chunky water sausage snack shining example of this. I hope thia helps! 😁💙🌟🌈
🥰The new mexican billet 50 pesos has an AxolotL bought one billet from Mexico I like the Axolotls but I don't know how to keep them That's why I bought a billet better
Hu Frankie im sorry if im really late but thanks for this video i really like to got one or two but my mother and father dont want it only if the price per month is really low how much do you spend on foor and more thinks
Hey !! So I've rescued a few eggs and need help! Do I need to keep the temperature of the water the same whilst in the tub before hatching of so how do I do this? Also when changing water each day once hatched do I have to make the water they are going into the same temperature they come from? Hope that makes sense? Also do the eggs also have to be de chlorinated water? I am under the impression I have to buy something to add to the water in order to make it de chlorinated? Complete beginner and just want to help these little baby eggs?? Please help. Would be so thankful for any information you may have xx
hi there, this is a long shot as i dont know how else to contact you, but my axie has stopped eating an has a slightly curled over floof. what should i do
Will axolotls willingly take food whenever given to them? My girl mochi always looks up at my everyday for food although feeding recommendations are 2-3 days?
Hi! i love your videos, im getting an baby axolotl soon and i have some questions. Do i need to cicle the water for baby axolotls and do i need a filter? Cause i did some research and some people say i cant have a filter on baby axolotls and some people say i do need it. same thing with cycling. sorry for my shitty english and Thank you!
I have an axolotl and she's not eating her belly is sunk in half her tail is gone and her right fingers. I gave her a salt bath and changing her water daily. This is the first one I've had. I have another and he seems to be fine. Can you help me on what to do please?
Omg it would be amazing if you could see this I have been really considering getting an axolotl and even if this video was made a long time ago getting an axolotl from you would be great!!
Hi frankie! I am considering getting an axolotl but I want to be sure I am fully informed on them before I start saving up for one and the care it needs, With that being said do they need to have a mate? I know some animals can get depressed if they are by themselves so I want to make sure I can just have one or if it’s ideal to have a friend☺️ Your video was soo very helpful and much appreciated!
I just figured out what killed the 1 adult I had. Breeder told me "DO NOT" add "Stress Coat" to her tubbing because it has aloe in it, and it will hurt her coat even more than ammonia. It also eliminates chlorine :( I am so sad!!!!
I don’t know if you’ve gotten an answer from somewhere else, seeing as you commented six months ago, but axolotls don’t mind being by themselves, they are anti social creatures, but they also don’t mind being with other axolotls as long as they are around the same size. Some are more aggressive than other though
Watched again as it's very informative..my two rather large babies, Tad and Gilly, are growing at a phenomenal rate 🥰 just wondering about how often they should be eating..once a day or more than ?? Then have happily excepted the pellets you recommended but they are used sparingly..now eating 3/4 worms between them each day but generally seem hungry most of the time but won't eat more than the amount mentioned..I've thought of dividing the worms as in two meals of a couple of worms each feeding..would that be ok ???
Thanks Donna! I'm so pleased to hear your two (not so) little ones are growing along nicely! Axolotls usually have a good appetite, and I feed mine 1 set meal each day, then they have a break at the weekend where I'll only feed it they're restless and hunting for some snap. I guess it's about finding what works best for you as the keeper and the axolotls. Some feed large meals a few times a week, whereas others feed each and every day. I also find Pixel begins acting odd and loses her appetite when shes about to lay her spawn, other than that shes a little monster who will eat all day if she was able! Lol Thanks again for your continued support, Donna. It really doesn't go unnoticed, thanks! 😁💙
hello I am a new axolotl owner I have two axolotls and they are around the juvenile age , they don't move often or eat ( only my smaller one eats ) are they dying? .
I have a baby Lucy and he or she is about 2 inchs (sorry for my imperial measurements) long just started growing back legs. I couldn't help but notice you started one of yours in a big tank while they were still small. Would you have any recommendations as to better keep a baby/juvenile in a larger tank? I got my pH at just above neutral. Water temperature is at 65f (sorry for imperial measurements metric is fat superior lol). I got plenty of places for the baby to hide. Only thing I'm really worried about is the filter and feeding in such a large tank almost 50us gal. I have no other fish or substrate aswell. It's quite comical to have such a baby in such a big tank. I'm just looking for some pointers or would it be a better idea to use a racking style system until it's bigger. My apologies for such a long questions. I've noticed I've became obsessed over my other 2 Axolotls so I'm sure you'll understand 😂 thanks so much
Good day, and many thanks for your comment! So, when it comes to keeping smaller axolotls in large tubs/tanks theres a few things to consider. First being feeding! Soemtimes it can prove a little time consuming, messy and rather tricky to monitor how much the little one eats in such a large space. Second filter strength! If your filter is a little strong the little ones can sometimes have a tough time swimming without being pulled around by the filters current. Other than those points I honestly feel they enjoy the added space! 😁👍💙🌟🌈
@@FrankiesUploads Thank you sooooooo much I already bought a sponge filter for the tank. And now I'm a subscriber. Many thanks from Florida ☀️⛱️👍. Keep up the good work I'm sure I'll have more questions for you.
Love your vids LOVE THIS VID TO (Sorry caps) But i love ur vids 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😀😀 But all the axlots are SOO cute 🤗 I just wanna take them out and give them a BIG hug (Sorry for spelling mistakes) Pls keep Buddy PLS
I've got a question for you. Breeding. Is it best to get a male and female from from different suppliers to stop inbreeding? Or doesn't matter? Thanks.
Yes, personally I would introduce new bloodlines rather than inbreed them. However axolotls can inbreed without any foreseeable issues, as do most amphibians.
Hi there! And many thanks for your comment 😁 You'll likely find as they grow older you might need to consider a larger tank. The bigger the better! 😊💙🌟👍
I have a juvenile axolotl that doesn't seem to be growing very large and his/her fimbriae (gills) are not very pillowy, never really have been. No sign of fungus and I feed every other day with 50% water changes weekly...any suggestions? I want a chunky money with fluffy fimbriae on his /her head
Hi there, many thanks for your comment! I'm sorry you're having a sticky time with your axolotl. Can I ask a few questions to iron out a few things it might be? Firstly, how are your water parameters? Are temperatures keeping good too? Hows the little ones appetite? And finally, what filtration are you currently using? 😁💙🌟🌈
@@FrankiesUploads no ammonia, nitrite or nitrate. I do weekly water changes my sponge filters are from what I can tell are well established...oh, wait I just thought of something. water flow. I have 30 gallon one axolotl and two sponge filters running. I covered the bubble vents but I can still see him kinda float sideways in a gentle way. Could that stress him out ?
Hi Gavin, thank you so much for your kind words! They are very much appreciated! That pH would be considered a tad high for axolotls, although you can purchase a product by API which will considerably help reduced that to a more suitable level of between 6.5 to 8.0. Axolotls are very forgiving in comparison to other aquatic critters with Parameters, although I would personally try to reduced those numbers for your own peace of mind. Thanks again for the support, and I sure hope to see you back in the comments again very soon! 😁👍🐡💙🌟🌈
I have one more question. First off I all ready have my tank cycled and setup. I've been working on it for about a year now 😅....... I'm not exaggerating. I was going to get an axolotl until something hit me. my pH was way too high. because of the conditions of my water I can only lower it to like an 8.3 - 8.4 witch is really sad. So to solve this problem, do you think I could raise a axolotl newborn/egg so it grows up in high pH and is not as bothered by it? Btw, thank you so much for the help 👍
Hey Gavin, firstly congrats on the preparation! It's great when people much like yourself go above and beyond to organise things for the safe arrival and care of any aquatic critter. And as for your Ph problem it's a toughy to say the least. Whilst you might have success with raising a hatchling in such waters, it would be a gamble, and one I'm not certain I would be willing to take myself. Might it be worth purchasing bottled water and testing that to see if that fits your purpose? I know that obviously comes at a further expense with water changes and such, but I feel that might be your safer option longterm for the safety of your axolotl. Ph it a tricky factor to tackle, and whilst there are several products on the market that can better balance your results, nothing can guarantee a permanent solution for such issues. Let me know if bottled water could be an option for you, as I'm very intrigued myself. Hope this helps, and thanks again for your support to my channel! You're awesome! 😁👍🐡💙🌟🌈
@@FrankiesUploads Great News! I took your advice, but bottled water was a bit expensive for me. So instead I'm going to get a RO system to lower my pH. I'll add equilibrium to help to Gh and Kh rise again, but not too much. I'll also get a pH buffer so the pH of the water will be around 7.2-7.5. I'm so happy I can get an axolotl finally! I've waited so long 😅 Thanks for all your help!
@@gavin1078 Hey that's fantastic news! And you're most welcome for the help! Only too happy to provide advice as and where I can. Please keep me updated with your axolotl! I'm super excited for you to start your journey! 😁👍🐡💙🌟🌈
Hi there! No, I wouldn't use a heater at 15. Axolotls much prefer cooler waters, and aslong as the water isn't nearing freezing temps you'll be fine. You may find thier metabolism might slow a little, but otherwise they'll do just fine! 😊💙🌟🌈
First comment I'll edit when I've watch the video mate 😂😂👍 watch it now mate great video like always and pixel looks like a tank and how did it taste mate u no u tried it 😂😂😂
Hi I has the pleasure of acquiring two Babies from Frankie two days ago..I've named them Tad and Gilly and they are gorgeous..mum and dad and just adorable and I'm hoping my two will grow and flourish..only problem now is I can see me having more in the future 🙈🙈
Thank you so much, Donna. I'm pleased to hear your two little ones are doing well. I will arrange visiting soon, promise! All the very best to you all 😁🐡💙🌟🌈
Hello there! Yes, you can offer them dried earthworms aslong as they are not bleached or treated with any other chemicals, which some bird feeds are. However, I don't know how much nutritional value those would be to your axolotl.
Thank you! I had so many people reach out and curse me for that! 😂 I think I may have got it down in another, more recent video! Appreciate your help! 😃🌟

Do you have any links for tanks you recommend?

Thank you, I appreciate that tons! 😁👍🐡💙🌟🌈
Would a pair raised from eggs eventually outgrow a 56 litre tank or is that just about right?
Hi there! And many thanks for your comment 😁
You'll likely find as they grow older you might need to consider a larger tank.
@@chickenfriedfish4059 well considering you didnt cycle your tank is it still alive?

How exciting! Do you have any idea what type if axolotl you are going to get?😃💙🌟🌈
Im thinking About a albino one and Maby gold our a black one
I’m interested in purchasing
Can I keep axolotls with a pH of 8.2-8.8? Also, love your videos!😃
@@FrankiesUploads thanks for the help!
@@gavin1078 Anytime! If you ever have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch! Have a great day! 👍
@@FrankiesUploads I'll try it out, thanks!
You're most welcome, I wish you well, and please do keep me updated!
Hi frankie do i need a heater in the tank?,the water at room temprature rests at 15 degrees ? Thanks.

Mate can you feed them dried bloodworms?
Hello there! Yes, you can offer them dried earthworms aslong as they are not bleached or treated with any other chemicals, which some bird feeds are. However, I don't know how much nutritional value those would be to your axolotl.
Xochimilco is pronounced "sochi-milk-o" so you don't hurt yourself on the next video lol. Props for trying though! 🤙🏼
Love the video
Thank you! I had so many people reach out and curse me for that! 😂 I think I may have got it down in another, more recent video! Appreciate your help! 😃🌟
