I only started on the Addi three days ago. I tried unsuccessfully to make a hat and I used two colours, but the yarns were incompatible and one of them bulged. I think I will try your method with the brim in one colour only - although the picking up stitches looks a bit scary as I have no idea how to successfully rectify that yet! The only other thing is that I have spent far too much on yarn! I tried to unravel my first attempt to save the yarn but it’s all knotted up and now wasted! I will keep going - it’s a matter of growing in confidence and not being too nervous about mistakes and learning how to sort mistakes out. A very helpful video! Many tutorial teachers tend to waffle on about not a lot and I can’t see exactly what they are doing - but you were to the point and at least you didn’t film every stitch made but jumped to the important bits.
There is SUCH an easier way to remove a piece from the addi. Just get a bent needle and knit through every single stitch, takes about 40 seconds. Then spin around twice and it will fall off the loom. This will save you so so much time
Excellent video. I have Prym Maxi. Once I practice more I will try this pattern. Btw, your voice is lower than your music. Once music played it was loud and startled me since I’m wearing headphones. 🤣

Wow... great job, however Got a little lost at the 70 row total count as most Addi adult hats are a bit longer, would love to know the inches in length. I’ve ordered 3 Addis over the years and never once got the pick it was always an additional piece to buy. So 45 for base color and 25 for top color (but the base is folded over at 20th row) so it’s 50 rows basically showing... is this a teen sized hat??🤔🤷🏽♀️ I’ll have to try this one out this weekend. It still looks lovely, just wrapping my brain around the row count and if it’ll fit the average adult head of a 7-8.5” hat in length Love your website
I would call this a fitted small/medium adult size hat as I have a small to medium-sized head. I would have to measure the height of it for you to see what the final was! If you want a taller hat with more slouch you can add additional rows. I knit one with 100 total rows and it was more of a slouchy fit on me but still super cute!
It's a drawstring cord lock. It came with the pom from another maker but you can find them on Amazon and they make attaching and removing your poms so quick and easy and keep them from falling off! Here is one similar to what I have amzn.to/36MZOOg
Thank you! Great question. I used the tapestry needle to secure the top of the hat and then tied a knot and wove the ends in on the inside a few times. I did the same with the brim color on the inside of the hat. I hope that helps!
My first row after making the brim always looks a little wonky. It looks like the yarn is a little looser on that row. Do you know what would cause that? Also, can you just remove the waste yarn by undoing it instead of cutting it out?
I'm guessing it has to do with the yarn pulling a little big more after the brim is attached. Maybe stretching the hat length wise after finishing could help? Removing the yarn by undoing it would work too I just always found that it worked better for me to cut it.
When attaching the double brim it does tend to get tight towards the end. I simply go slow and make sure to pull up on the cast on section. Then when I start winding again I go slow on the first round. The next rounds will be easier.
Hi, I finally tried this and I have a question. After hooking all the stitches to the needles, I find that it hard to crank my machine. Is that normal?
Depending on how heavy of a weight and sticky your yarn is, the first few rounds may be a little more "sticky" to turn. A lighter-weight yarn will make this easier.
I haven't tested this pattern with any other yarn so I can't say for certain. You could do a swatch and compare the gauge to see if you need to add more rows. The gauge is listed on my website via the link in the description.
The circumference around your hard is too big? Are you using the 48 needles Addi? The 48 needle Addi should fit most teen - adult-sized heads. What yarn are you using?
@@sharongardner9044 That is a great yarn for the Addi. So you are saying it's too big around the head or is it too long? I just want to make sure I know exactly what's not fitting so maybe I can help.
@@sharongardner9044 If you are using the 48 needle Addi it should fit nicely around an average teen to adult-sized head for any hat pattern that you make with worsted weight yarn as that is what the Addi King is sized for. For this pattern make sure that you only knit a total of 70 rows so once your counter hits 70 you cast off. If you would like it to be even shorter you can knit fewer rows. Let me know if that helps! Sometimes practicing on your Addi to get the right tension is helpful too.
Great instructions, but hated the music, it was not necessary, and too loud, kept having to mess with volume to hear what you said, and then turn down the music. Just saying. Great instructions.
I completely agree with you. This was early on in my editing experience and I didn't know how to lower the volume of the music. I apologize for it being a little loud. My recent videos are better!

Love this hat! I didn't get the hook tool with my Addi! I will have to see if I can find one. Any idea what it's called?
I have used a loom pick or a dental pick available at a pharmacy x

What would the pattern be for a child? And should I use a 40 peg instead?
Depending on the age of the child I would use the smaller 40 peg machine for a child.
