I carry an FNH for security mainly during the winter in a shoulder holster. 60 rounds in 3 mags is comforting. I'm not a huge Ruger fan and like their revolvers more than the semiautomatic pistols.
FN - PROS: chrome lined barrel, polymer coated slide (quieter action), slide doesn't have a lightening hole (less opportunity for contaminants) trigger assembly has less slack, available in three different colors, shorter overall length, slightly better aftermarket support -CONS: price, trigger guard is not recessed, not prepped for optics,
Notes: overall, if you like it and can afford it, buy it... but try the Ruger first. If you don't plan on operating in a dirty environment, or you plan to add an optic, you might find the Ruger more appealing.
Ruger - PROS: lower barrel axis, recessed trigger guard, price, magazine holds an extra round, fiber optic front sight, predrilled for optic mount and OEM optic plate, shorter grip length, magazine holds 21 rounds -CONS: action has higher sound signature, trigger group isn't as tight, manual specs say high pressure rounds (+P/etc.) are not recommended
Notes: for those with smaller hands or chubby fingers or just prefer a slightly shorter reach, slight advantage in recoil (barely perceptible, negligible for those familiar with higher calibers), grip and trigger feel is largely subject to opinion but may yield better personal performance/control
Overall comparison: these are both great firearms. I personally chose the Ruger. I preferred its grip, recessed trigger guard, forward sight, and that it's factory prepped for an optic mounting plate. In short, you get 98% of the functionality (in some ways better) for half the cash. While this last part is largely subject to personal opinion... the trigger group isn't nearly as bad as many people make it out to be. It also (for some odd reason) feels much better in practice. I don't know why... but loaded, the trigger feel is much better than cleared. Also, presumably because the grip fits my hand better and the forward sight is more visible, I am considerably more accurate with the Ruger... especially with successive shots. In my own experience, the Ruger just performed better. My only drawback to the Ruger is the slotted slide. I get why they did it, and I appreciate the outcome. There isn't that much energy available from the round to operate the slide... meaning the overall slide weight is critical. The slot makes the slide lighter, and broadens the compatibility for optics. While most civilian use won't find this a problem... field/tactical use would definitely dictate choosing the FN, as there is much less chance for contaminants. The FN also has better aftermarket support with loads of holster options. This also brings up another point... the FN has a great draw and stow feel. The shape of the slide lends well to a holster. I have yet to purchase a molded holster for the Ruger, so I can't compare/contrast here.
At any rate, both are fine pistols, and are an absolute grin-inducing blast to shoot. The accuracy is amazing, the trajectory is flat, the recoil is low, and the magazine capacity is high. If you can afford the ammo... all day sessions at the range will be low in fatigue and high in satisfaction.
I have both and Ruger is easier to shhot
FN shits on the Ruger entirely lol. Price isn’t an actual con because things that are quality cost money and the optics can be fixed easily with a mount online.
I bought a Ruger 57 and I like it. It's a little large for a carry gun but it's also fun to shoot and the bullet is very fast.
Have any issues with the mag ? I seen a lot of problems with that
FN needs to give us a 5.7 in the 509 compact!
There's a reason why they don't. The 5.7x28 requires the longer barrel to maintain time under pressure required for cycling the action. A compact would require specialized ammunition with a longer/heavier projectile to ensure enough energy is available to the action. The longer ammunition would then require either less powder (defeating the purpose and advantage over alternatives), or a longer cartridge length (it wouldn't be a 5.7x28 anymore, requiring different magazine, chamber, action, travel, and again defeating the purpose).
@@jessicacopeland1644 If that were true then 5.56 barrels would all be over 16".
@@coreymoyers - ummm... no. 5.56 has significantly more powder charge to provide the energy needed for short barrel operation. Also, the projectiles are heavier. The steel tip alone is 19gr with total projectile mass exceeding 50gr. The comparison isn't even close, regardless of diameter/bore.
@@coreymoyers this is true, trust me if they could make them shorter they would. Try shooting a draco, it’s literally centimeters from being to short. The powder doesn’t burn off like it should and it’s spit all over you and everything around it.
It’s hilarious to me that people don’t realize that the slide is locked back when the mag is empty and when they themselves loaded the mag. It’s funny to me when people go to pull the trigger, anticipate the shot only to realize it’s empty when they lounge forward. In the military when we would be at the range with the M9, we instructed the trainees to be mindful of the remaining rounds left in the mag when shooting. Though in the heat of the moment that will be the last thing on your mind. But having the edge to pay attention to the remaining rounds is helpful.
Which one do you recommend
90% sure they just put her there for eye-candy anyways...
Had to mute the sound. The "music" was driving me nuts.. I often wander why Ytube channels insist on music during shooting episodes. ??
Often wonder why guys like you are gay and boring?!
Has Ratt "Way Cool Jr." and "Round And Round" playing in the background.
I have to agree,i cant finish the vid, musics to loud & nerve racking, maybe a bit better tasteful music would help, not outting down the music, just the wrong choice for this.
I have the Ruger 57. Really nice shooter. Ammo costs hurt a little
I love the FN. Probably the best pistol Ive shot, and Ive shot some great ones.
Painful to shoot a 5.7 and crying about your shoulder hurting you just lost your man card.
😂😂😂
Seriously? Five shots? I love you guys, but there had to have been someone on staff that could have shot this gun without issues...
The chrome lined barrel is the winner for me.
The ruger is definitely something I have in mind because I like the grip on it!
the grip is amazingly comfortable for my small hands lol
@@keanandelarosa1329 yes small hang ruger if you can grip comfortably, you more likely shoot better
🧢
FN rates their barrels on the FSN to 20K before accuracy would degrade. It would be interesting to see how long the Ruger barrel lasts.
No where near that.
@@willws2conceptsshephard Ruger says they have samples surpasses 20K rounds without issue, so time will tell.
Damn, the chick missed out on all the targets 🌚
Could be passing right through the targets as well these are fast projectiles
@Ronan The Accuser exactly she wasn’t hitting shit
They're both great firearms in their own right. To sum up my experience with both... the FN is the better for those who need a who need it to function in dirty/dusty environments, want to use the 27gr lead free rounds, or desire a wider range of compatible reflex sights. The Ruger, in my opinion, just feels better. I tend to be more accurate with it (especially with follow-up shots), the grip feels more natural, the safety is more intuitive, I prefer the sights, the recessed trigger guard and lower barrel axis lends a much more natural sight line and instinctive draw position. The latter is secret sauce to my preference for the Ruger. It simply handles better... especially in terms of balance and recoil management (what little there is).
The FN is a great unit for those who need it. It has some tactical advantages that shine in paramilitary and law enforcement. That being said... for the average enthusiast, they might find not only a better price point in the Ruger... but better performance as well.
At the end of the day, it's all about what matters most to you and your application. For me, I chose the Ruger. I needed a functional firearm for household protection and occasional carry, and also an introductory firearm for my wife with ZERO experience. The latter was a huge point. When it came to putting lead to target, we both found a natural preference for the Ruger. Price wasn't really a consideration. It's just icing on the cake that our choice was half the price, AND performed better FOR US. After firing both, we came with our preferred pistol, a stack of ammo, and ZERO buyer's guilt. I have more appropriate weapons for tactical applications. This was home defense, range plinking, and the occasional short range predator protection.
Ruger means great gun, plus lotsa $ left for ammo!!!
Agreed picked mine up yesterday and love it ...ammo expensive fpr 500 rds but damn did the 1st cpl hundred rds gp fast today lmao...
Shoot more of Ruger 57 What kind of bullets does it shoot
For a comprehensive review, Paul Harrell compared the two. Check him out if you wish!
FNH and Ruger are light years apart in quality and class. Ruger makes nice .22s and "some" revolvers not much else. FNH makes Tier 1 World class firearms.
Yet in the 5.7 that general observation doesn't apply. Especially for the price. Ruger slaughters it.
Lifted_Above you're joking right?
Well if she is being attacked an she pulls that gun all you have to do is stand still till she runs out bullets.
Curious if bullets were in fact passing through the targets.
We may never know! Honestly though, both did shoot great and Jaydan is working on her shooting.
Sorry, that wasn’t actually meant to be a critique of the marksmanship but more the ballistic characteristics of that really niche round! Keep it up guys and gals and stay safe
Ending was the best part!! Why did Carol kill her husband lol!! Great comparsion and lovin' the look, style and comfort of the Ruger over the FN. Now I just need to "pull the trigger" on buying it.
I own the Ruger and I have shot both guns. I think you pretty well nailed the differences. My own experience is that the FN is a much more accurate gun. It shoots like a rifle. Ruger has noticeably better ergonomics especially the safety. FN put their safety in the oddest place for some reason.
Great synopsis
Ruger 5.7 love it
FN, simply because it’s a battle proven firearm. Not so sure of Ruger future, but if you’re on a budget may be best option.
Ruger doing just fine
I disagree my fn slide started to rust not very battle proven to me
The FN is a tad lighter , hence the extra recoil for the young lady , if you throw an RMR on it and/or a light , you’ll appreciate the weight more , bones the other way bare for the ruger , but the value is there , I own two FN’s and ones bare the other with an RMR , the ruger is definitely on my list as aftermarket barrels become available, and that price !
Not to mention the high bore axis on the FN.
Just got the Ruger 5.7 very very well thought out gun. Affordable at that I'd go with the Ruger all day vs the fn.
Yee gads, if they weren't wearing glasses they couldn't hit the side of a barn right either.
That acid head music in the background will do it to a guy every time
Comparing FN to ruger
Is like comparing Sig Sauer to glock
It’s twice the price because it’s twice the gun
Plain and simple
Say WHAT? The Ruger 57 is MORE RELIABLE during the break-in period, a bit more ergonomic to hold, better front sight, HALF the price (no chrome lined barrel), better trigger feel, adaptable to red dot sights, DUAL 1911 type safeties, metal magazines, did i mention HALF the price?
I would wager that the Ruger 57 will have far fewer stoppages over its life than the FN Five seveN.
How many military contracts does Ruger have? 🤔
@@69deputy aren't Government contracts usually handed to the lowest bidder no necessarily the best product?
My next gun is the ruger 57
Fn57>> all day babe
I hate that Ruger made this because now the ammo is hard to find all these people with the ruger's are buying amazing amount of ammo and not leaving any for the rest of us. And overall FN is the better gun
Cheap knockoff
Lmfaooooo you mad that the FN is shit compared to the ruger, it’s okay buddy
@@kingoscar4970 that's like saying a ford focus ST is better than an Audi RS5
Straight facts im happy that there are more variety of guns that take the round but I'd stick to my FN regardless of price point
Is it louder than a 9mm?
Yes
Geeze! When you're on a UA-cam gun channel. You should be able to freaking shoot!!. Thats embarrassing.
Have you shot at a Throom target before? It's possible that his rounds were passing through those targets and not knocking them over. It probably would have been a better idea to shoot paper for the video.
I hadn't gotten to the paper target portion yet....yeah Chris.....I stand corrected! hahah
FN for me…Own it..And Love It.!!!…Price is nothing when my Family or my life is at stake.!!..
I would like to see a comparison between the walther ppq mod 2, the hk vp9,.
The cost of the ammunition makes either of these guns
a poor choice.
Bout the same price as 9 now
I would like to see you do the SCCY CPX3 And see how you guys like it and would it be a good budget gun
Is it just me or did the FN seem to have more muzzle flip than the Ruger?
FN for the win ....
dude i originally wanted the fn5.7 till ruger came out with theres. and I jump on the ruger and I LOVE IT SO MUCH I've never ever loved a gun so much. after i got the ruger I then shot a fn5.7 and it wasn't what I thought I didn't like the ergonomics on it at all and the sights were almost like facing downward and wasn't as accurate as I was with my ruger. for the price and build ruger got it. but then again I'm just saying my thoughts. I love guns but hands down *for me* it is the greatest gun. no rifle or pistol is better. it's match made from heaven for me everything about it is perfect.
Same here it's my Favorite handgun
I put my order in on the Ruger 57 4 months ago and has not come into the gun shop yet, what the hell. Has Ruger stopped producing this gun.
Probably working on drop safety issues
I talked with Ruger about a month ago and they told me they did not expect the sales to take off like it did and they are trying to produce them as fast as they can to get them out to the gun shops. That was a no-brainer on their part cuz they should have known the Ruger 57 being half the price of the f&n five-seven that sales would go through the roof and they should have just kept producing them instead of waiting to see if they would sell or not.
Just want to add, I have only seen one reviewer cover it.
The ruger is not a carry gun, it is not drop safe.
Then don't drop it. Plenty people carry lcp2 fully loaded without an issue. (Also not drop safe)
@@zarinkai2927 true but I hear Ruger isn’t great of it got dirty?
My FN Five seven kinda out of wax when I am at the shooting range
Wow! the perfect channel to compare guns 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
USA🇺🇸RUGER 57 THE BEST
If your shoulder was hurting, why make a video???
Put in 500 rounds of range time for each pistol brand and there would be a difference for different shooters that's what I know about handling & shooting different firearms.
And what did you find?
@@baba10ye more range time would give you consistency to the skills of the platforms.
Ruger wins again. 57 sounds way smoother than 5 7.
The only thing better on the Ruger is the price ....... fn designed the 5.7 ground up and Ruger isn’t in the same category of quality as FN when it comes to firearms
@@trey87chevy I'd say that too if I spent 1200 on a plastic gun. 🤷♂️
Unprofessional chick she tried to shoot a gun that was already out of bullets
Nice video 👏👏👏
Just because one cost more doesn’t always mean it’s a better gun. Not an FN fan, overpriced.
Forever love my fn , gotta keep it original not like those bootleg 5.7 ( ruger ) 😂😂😂😂
Lmao @3:51 you shot the middle of the wood 😭😭😭 talking about “yay” y’all can’t shoot for shit @5:58 look at your grip!!! You weren’t hitting anything
Shoulder hurts? The 5.7 feels like a 22 lame asf
You should have conducted tests where you were not Hurt on your shoulder, just think about it, you think everybody's going to believe that that's the reasons why you miss those shots
There is no possibility lol get your aim up man you work at a gun range USE IT!
I like both FN and Ruger. I have not shot either 57, but I probably would go with the FN.
Same!
Good choice
I sold my FN five-seven the grip was too bulky effected my accuracy. The steel mags are a deal maker slimmer grip improved accuracy. Ruger makes great guns but they are FUGGLY the 57 is gorgeous
All FN weapons are military grade, in principle FN does not make weapons for civilians, the FN 7.5 is 20 years old, it is no longer protected by its patent, it was designed for non-combatants, nevertheless it is the standard pistol of the Belgian army which wins almost all NATO competitions. the price you have to compare what is comparable, seriously how do you make a quality weapon for $ 300 from time to time you have to think. Poor quality hardware solution and workers paying $ 4 a day
Harder to get the ammo than most guns
THE FN IS ONLY $1075… OVER PRICED SHIT IN HIS STORE… RUGER IS $749.. BOTH AT academy sports… TFOH…
Should've had one more category. Drop safe.
How your shoulder hurt from shooting 5 shots from a pistol wtf 😂😂😂
If your arm hurt to where you can’t shoot more than 5 rounds you don’t need to be shootin bro 😂 get your ice pack and your rocking chair
Grouping is on the shooter, not the gun...
The Ruger's 57 would've been perfect if it didn't include that thumb safety. Would've been even more appealing than the FN.
Hi, sorry, why missed ?!
That was the most uninformed video about these two guns yet. Ruger recommends that you not carry their 57 loaded in the manual. Because of the way the firing pin block is engineered, unintentional discharge possibility. There’s a lot of controversy swirling around the Ruger currently, rusting issues, magazine issues, firing pin safety concerns. Better do more due diligence before buying one. And you can buy the FN57 for $1100 pretty much all day. The triggers on both guns are not great. The FN with a trigger job can be made much better. No qualified gun smith would touch the Ruger because of the design flaw. Amazing how people think they’re qualified to review firearms and potentially put people safety at risk and do little or no research first.
last i checked, vary nearly ALL firearm manufacturers recommend against carrying with a round in the chamber mostly for liability reasons. Same reason why beer-manufacturers warn against drinking then getting behind the wheel of a car?
The hammer will not strike the actual round unless the trigger is pulled back. It's 'possible' for the hammer to fall halfway from a seriously hard impact on the firearm (ie: will fall to a half-cocked state), but it will NOT fall beyond that unless the trigger is pulled.
guess i can't have a u tube channel till i grow a beard. sorry but FN wins
The Ruger trigger sucks I love my FN but if you can’t afford the FN I guess you will love the Ruger finally being able to get 5.7 in a pistol lol
Price vs quality = Ruger
What's up with the acid head music in the background ? I can't hit a barn door right with that stuff playing either. You guys suck at shooting lol don't blame it on Ruger
Blondie gave a better review and she is obviously tougher!
She should punch him in the shoulder for his terrible & obviously bias review and take over the video & his man card! 💯 LOL!
Fn is lighter an more accurate
Man….they can’t shoot! Lol
why the 80s garbage rock music?
Fn feels and looks like plastic and it's bulky . Ruger doesn't, winning.
FN is not huge...
@@chltmdwp it is compared to the ruger 57. It's bulky like a water gun. Go to a gun store will both they'll tell u the same thing. And fn feels like plastic the ruger don't.
@@mixedmarksman5873 not sure what you mean by huge because the footprint is smaller than Ruger. Do you mean the grip is thicker or wider? I only shot FN FiveSeven once and I prefer the plastic feel to make it light. I'm sure Ruger will feel better though. To each their own.
@@chltmdwp the upper is way more bulky. You would have to hold both in your hand to see. The ruger barrel is about half a inch longer though
@@chltmdwp ruger 57 only weighs 24 ounces. 3 more ounces than fn not really noticeable
Background music was a little annoying and distracting like the video overall
