The best mechanism on the internet. I must have looked at a dozen options and thought up a dozen more, but this one was it. Cheers for the share. Now, if only mine had come out as elegant lol.
I did your mechanism and it came out great. I had purchased a cajón 2 years ago with no snare. It was not an option. So I added one using your method. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Put this in my "view later" list of saved videos... Wow Steve... aside from appreciating the video itself... I'm looking at how much we've changed since then.
hi Steve, Your brilliant design has just reached the UK!! I made the adjustable snare mod to my Cajon together with the screws lower down too. I had to tweak the slot in the ply with a flared bracing as my sides were only 10-11mm thick. But what a great sound now. transformed! Thanks Steve.
Little suggestion. Maybe put a piece of leather or rubber on the bar that stops the snare so it doesn't make a noise when you shut it off don't want that sound to be part of the performance lol I like the simplicity of the shut off though right in the front you don't even have to think about it just on or off in the middle of playing. I love it
This is an awesome mechanism Steve, certainly the most simplistic and convenient way to switch while playing. What is the hardware that it used for dowel tightening adjustment?
I noticed that the screws on the skin don't go all the way to the top. Does the lack of screws all the way around help the sound? Thanks for the video!
Hey Rick Ivey ! yeh the top screws are left out so the corners of the skin will stick up a bit. That way when you hit the top it gives it a nice ‘slap/snap’ when you play ;)
Steve, Love the video and ideas. Best on the web for sure. Is it my depth perception issues or is your box deeper than the width? Looks more rectangular than square? Or is it me?
I assume you have found them already but for people who see this and have the same question: I just bought a snare for a snare drum and cut it in half for this.
what is that tapa material called, mahogany plywood? and what thickness do you use. what is the tonal difference between what you use and baltic birch plywood?
Wei T it makes a difference how close to the top of the drum the end of the snares reach.... and yes the length also affects it. Shorter is a more milder sound, and too long can make the snares rattle too much... depends what you're looking for in sound.
w w w W W W W W OW..... Im a pro conga play for 30 years.... nice ......you have to get a GREAT finish on it cuzz we need show time....then take it to the NAMM show in Anaheim Ca. next to Disney Land every year Jan 19th you have a great drum.....also show it to pro drum the in Hollywood cal.....very nice and get it to Nashville thats gona be your big market.....Great workk k k k k

I just did this to my own cajon.
Sounds way way better.
Thanks for sharing, legend! 😁

A neat modification, I was looking at how to make the snare "turn on or off" and yours is a great method.

Super cool design.
Fantastic video! Just an awesome design.
Love the small switch design. Think I'll use a car door lock as a fancy switch.
Gracias Steve por mostrar tu trabajo.
Great video great workmanship
Amazing work, Thank you.
I’m learning a lot from you, Steve

I screw in a small piece of wood that the snares rest on, so they don't shake around when turned off. Cheers!
great job could you show us how you make the switch please.
very cool
Thanks
Awesome mods!
I did similar, but also made two small holes for the Allen key
In this episode Samwise Gamgee modifies a cajon! Love this
Excelente trabalho!! Parabéns..
This is an awesome mechanism Steve, certainly the most simplistic and convenient way to switch while playing.
What is the hardware that it used for dowel tightening adjustment?
Gourav Saha t-bolts and those nuts that dig into the wood
Best video

@@littleiglooprod Thanks, I'm almost done with my build and I wanted to make sure before I attached the skin.

jey stive im from the philipines ill been watching you .
i wont to learn . i ask you sir what kind of metal string to use.
Hi rodel pelo Steve uses the metal snare found at the bottom of a snare drum on a regular drum kit
rodel pelo snare drum snares, cut in half
I know this is old. But tell your buddy to make one with a foot pedal for on off to utilize faster during the groove!
Is the build on UA-cam for this Cajone? I'd like to make one. Show us how you did this.
No sorry, maybe I'll make another video
@@steveregnier7317 I emailed you for details which you were kind enough to reply. A step by step video would be awesome!
Amazing idea...👍👍👍 I from ina
What is the hardware that is used to tighten the snare dowel?
So Steve what where you doing in Pg and where are you now?
Big Rick's Haberdashery I'm in Spruce Grove Alberta now, building guitars 😀✌️
how do you make that switch please thanks
Where can i buy the snares and how you name theme (phrase), Greetings from the Netherlands
I assume you have found them already but for people who see this and have the same question: I just bought a snare for a snare drum and cut it in half for this.
What size dowels did you use?

Nick Dino it's mahogany doorply 1/8" , the best sound I've found so far
Hi steve , the snare Does the length have anything to do with the sound?

Tantos locais e formas para fazer a adaptação, fez na frente...
genius!
Do you use 3/4 or 1/2 for the body?
Justin 3/4, biscuit jointed corners
is this garry moore fixing cajons??? ;)
No, this is Samwise Gamgee from Lord Of The Rings

Prince George, eh? Skookum!
how to remove buzzing metal noise?
stil in abailable in the market.

when I close my eyes, Steve sounds a lot like Alex Lifeson......
No no no..... Muy mal diseño
Porque?
@@WhistleWorld porque el ajuste del snare esta al frente... Pudiese estar de lado que es mas práctico.
Que no te guste no quiere decir que sea mal diseño!
