Hi, I'm a new rider here (3 months). I'm really sorry to see this happen to you, and I hope you recover soon. Sometimes, I wonder when my first really bad crash will be. As my confidence grows, so does my willingness to push my limits farther out. My friends and family all think I'm nuts for getting into something like this at 50, but I still feel that it's something that I need to do. I hope you're able to get back at it very soon.

This resonates with me. I did finally have a bad wipeout a few months ago. If you don't like having to heal, then wear quality protective gear and NEVER skip a single piece of gear. Especially the boots... Ankle injuries are the most common for EUC drivers. I never drive mine without motorcross boots.

I had a similar injury ... On December 25, 2021 I was out taking photos in the snow and I slipped and broke both my tibia and fibula vertically. Thankfully had surgery the same night as the injury. The iWalk 3.0 was a godsend! I wore that thing anytime I was vertical and ... Maybe I just practiced a bunch, but I found it SO MUCH faster than crutches ... And usually safer too! (IE: climbing or descending stairs)
Of course, at least once a day I'd get tired and not lift my leg high enough, the vibram would skid on the ground and I'd be thrown into one of those slow-motion falling scenes where arms would fly and I'd ALMOST hit the ground ... (thankfully never did!)
Heal well, brother, and keep moving . . The only thing that helped me recover as well as I did was by staying on the go as soon as I could after surgery!

So happy you are doing better! Once you get to the walking boot part you will be amazed how well you can actually move around with it on. I never really had to use crutches to supplement the walking boot. Looking forward to your triumphant return to the EUC!

I remember my tib/fib I was waiting tables a couple months afterwards, and walking fine. I remember going on a mountain bike weekend about five months afterwards. I put my ice skates back on at eight months, but I didn't start playing hockey again until about ten months. I was still a youngster then though. I imagine it wouldn't be that much different. I am five months after a recent elbow injury. I am still feeling some weakness. It was tough getting started back. PTSD is a thing. Now, not much trepidation, but I am riding my suspension wheel more than anything. Many people who don't ride don't understand why I still want to.

Cody here :). Awesome vid!! I've broken quite a few bones (sitting here with a broken collar bone now lol) so I def know how stir crazy it gets. So the injury I had was a torn ACL from traditional unicycles that actually led me into EUC. I had to redo the meniscus part of the surgery from a car accident and wasn't allowed to put any weight on that leg for 8 weeks
Super glad I could help my man! We are will ride together soon when we're both healed up!

Fast recovery, Marty. I had back to back surgeries this summer and wasn't able to ride for awhile. I was amazed how weak my EUC muscles got in 6 weeks. Kind of painful, but mostly just sore as all hell for about a month. I'm 64 and never broken a bone; not that I haven't tried all my life. (knock on wood) My worst injuries on PEV's has been the Onewheel; easy to learn, easy to injure, in my opinion. 3 years in and never crashed on pavement on the EUC yet. (knock on more wood) Cheers.

Glad you are doing well, always appreciate your demeanor. I have hit the ground pretty hard, the last one made me question
my choice of riding an electric wheel. I have always considered riding the electric wheel a high risk activity
more so than any other activity where there is some risk of falling or injury. Safety equipment can prevent minor injury
discomfort but is not protection from all injury. Glad to see you posting content and the healing is progressing
in a positive direction, best regards.

Invaluable. Thanks for demonstrating your recovery equipment. I’d be interested in the physical therapy progress as well.
I’m hopeful that EUCs will advance faster than my need for ambulatory assistance… so far, so good.
If we survive all the falls, our proprioception will be excellent even after senility sets in.
My neighbor, back in the day, was a daily manual unicycle rider and rode until he was 85 (twice a week just before retiring his wheel). His mind left reality 10 years earlier but his body kept balancing until until death, which sounds good to me.

okay, thank you, i will look again.
also, arnica cream (cvs) can help reduce pain and increase the rate of the healing process and contributes to reducing inflammation. i use arnica cream every day on old injuries i accumulated over time. i also use redmond clay (also called bentonite clay) mixed with water into a paste, and apply to skin cuts or burns when needed, and to areas of injury, and wrapping with sandwich wrap to keep the clay from drying. the clay can also reduce inflammation, reduce pain, and help with healing. when in use, i apply the clay to area of pain, wrap the area with the sandwhich wrap (keeping clay moist, important) and i change once each day, allowing skin to air out/dry for an hour or two, before reapplying. the clay also reduces scaring as well.

    San Diego? Surf's up.
Broken ankle sucks; ribs/shoulders also suck. Glad your foot was generally intact.
I had an accident and didn't break my ankle or tib/fib (it looked like that was it but it wasn't) but instead it was found 5 miserable weeks later to be fractured cuboid/cuneiform, which is the tiny bones mid foot that everything basically runs around and through. I knew a guy snapped off both his legs' bones at the shins (water skiing accident, hit a dock) and he was only down 7 weeks (lucky he got clean breaks and no exposed bone).
Glad to hear it's going well, make sure to fully rehab and be careful - when you're splinted for a while it takes a bit of time for everything to loosen up again properly, speaking from quite a bit of crashes/accidents.
My motto, at age 56, is: *that which microfractures makes me stronger*

I broke my leg on a 16x (well, shortly after coming off the 16x) after getting bad wobbles. Got a knee scooter similar to that, but I missed my motor so with an e skate motor, twist throttle, vesc and a 3D printed pulley I made a 25mph 2000w knee scooter lol
Biggest regret was not showing the doctor

Shame if they don't explain the crutches when they might think you're old enough to know. Nobody knows unless they tell us.
Those armpit pads are for controlling the aim of the crutch foot, NOT holding weight. they should ride up to an inch or two under the armpit. It should only be a workout for the muscles to hold your weight on the handles in your hand - not hard on the shoulders or armpit.
Best of luck on your recovery.

      @ElectricUnicycles  9 місяців тому +1

Oh, I know how to use crutches but it's hard not to distribute 'some' of the weight to the armpits. That's why they are covered with super soft foam.
      Thanks 🙏

Get better soon Marty! I'm also recovering from a euc accident. On 8-4-23 around 630pm. I was traveling east bond on Tomah ave on my 16x doing around 18 mph when a west bond truck turned left twards North York st in Porterville CA striking me with the front of their truck, causing me to go over the hood and I landed on the road next to the passenger side of the truck. The left side of my body is torn up, and my left knee, ankle, ribs, and spine still hurt a lot! My LCL in my left knee and something in my spine may be torn. due to my terrible health insurance their forcing me to wait over a month before they will do a mri. My wheel needs to be repaired or replaced, and I'm not sure where to take it if anyone has any advice?

Thanks, and I hope your injuries can heal without intervention. If you don't know anyone often you can find a dealer that will repair wheels, at a price.

Life is what happens as you make your plan's, shit happens. Things always come round, but you have to be patient and realistic. I always gear up even on the Ninebot One E+. I always think that one day I will keel over and I don't want people saying how well I looked, and how they never would have thought. Much better, he looked like he had had a hard life and I'm surprised he lasted that long 🙂 Having said that obviously it doesn't pay to be reckless, its funny how we take our mobility and general health for granted until its adversely effected. Exploring toys to make the best of the situation a great idea. Still room for some sketchy riding, letting the wife drive - don't tell her I said that. Glad you're on the mend, all the best, still tinkering in the workshop is good, should be a video there, no peace for the wicked 🙂.
