  • Hi! The sunflower lanyard scheme allows people with hidden disabilities to get the assistance and understanding they need when travelling or out and about. I wanted to share my own experience of travelling with a sunflower lanyard, which has been very positive so far! I hope this helps if people have any questions or worries about getting a lanyard!
    Love,
    Jessica x

I suffer from autism and wear one in the three supermarkets that operate the scheme. It saves so much time and frustration as I tend to go blind to the things I'm looking for. The staff will show you where things are, make sure an item is what you want and you've successfully loaded it into the trolley. The scheme is spot on for what I need!

I have mild Asperger’s Syndrome and got my sunflower lanyard through the post yesterday. I also ordered it with a plastic wallet, Main info card and the recent face covering exempt card. I just hope other people understand, especially if I board a bus or train without a face covering.

Does this help with that? I have autism and I have one too.

The sunflower lanyard is not used to exempt yourself from a face covering. It’s to get additional support. You need a medical exempt card for face covering.

My daughter works in joules and they have been shown what these laynards mean and when they see one, and my daughter told me about the scheme and now im proud to wear mine and not have to explain because I have the hard of hearing card on mine , its so hard because I can't lip read anymore being out and they lift there mask up so I can understand. Wish a mask was made so we can lip read shop staff and so on. But its nice knowing a lot of people are knowing what the sunflower lynard means .
So ty I enjoy going shopping more now.. feel more confident now going out on my own..

    Hi great video! 🌻
I will get one of these. I’ve been a bit reluctant because I have an obvious physical disability and am in an electric wheelchair. I have lots of hidden disabilities which is the purpose of the lanyard. I don’t expect to be treated any differently but it’s reassuring knowing people will be aware I have other hidden disabilities.

Hi Jessica! I'm a third year Geography student at the University of Birmingham currently undertaking research into the experiences of people with mobility-related hidden disabilities in public spaces. Your video was really informative, and I was just wondering whether you would be interested in answering some questions about your experiences when using the lanyard? Thanks,
    Emma
