I was asked by a viewer how the Yoke system attaches. It's a very valid question as it took me an absolute age to work out how it works.

To the best of my knowledge the rucksack was part of a four piece system and so with just the rucksack adding the yoke is a bit difficult to understand. I believe what I have come up with is correct.
Here is a short video explaining how to do it. Hope it's useful.
Its a Yoke System and not a Yolk as i put in the video. Bit late to edit it after the upload.
Bought mine from Surplus and Lost. Here is a link to the seller if it is of any use to you:

One of the best tutorials I’ve ever seen along with perfect voice pronunciation in the instructions you give, a teacher I could listen to at a lecture at college….Brian

Get an old style hiking backpack with an external aluminium frame, fit the Austrian pack to that, will work a treat.

i must say, these two straps at 3.11 don't do very much to adjust the Rucksack for more tension or better wearing comfort. it's actually the opposite and less comfortable, at least in my experience. i cut them off and upgraded with a german sleeping mat as well. this was definitively a good decision. the result is, that the backpack now sits closer to my back and it feels more comfortabel and sturdy thanks to the mat. those unused straps are actually meant to attach a additional smaller pack to them and if not using it, directly to the belt, along with the two ones on the front that you already cut off. if you have the Belt, then you only will benefit from it. anyways...i will purchase a second Harness along with a belt, if i can get hands on one. but i don't really like this system anyway. there's too much metal stuff hanging on it, which makes the light weight nylon Rucksack a little too heavy and my fingers smell like metall after touching those adjusters and carabiner hooks.

I agree and have a great deal of sympathy for the Austrian Army chaps it was designed for, they must have hated these. On the up side I try to keep the weight down and just use mine as a day pack. It’s really large and does the job of carrying my camera kit along with it her necessities. Thanks for the comments 👍

Does anyone know where I can find the straps for this? I have the pack and some straps that came with it, but I'm looking to attach it to an ALICE belt and the straps that came with mine only attach to the pack and have no way of attaching to a belt like the ones shown in the video.

Hi Alan, I take it you are from the UK. No sorry, I have looked at various army surplus online stores that I usually troll but no joy. Bought mine as new old stock from Surplusandlost. Not sure if they would be able to help you. Good luck with your search 👍

Surplus and lost uk. It is an online shop and they also sell on eBay. The new old stock is probably no longer available. Good luck with your search 👍

I have just received this bag from ebay, and interestingly, I have TWO adjustable straps that go over the front on each side. No idea what the 2nd is for. Any ideas anyone?

The bag was part of a larger kit. If I understand the question correctly, on the yolk system there are 2 longer straps that hang down. I cut mine off leaving a few inches so I can pull the load forward occasionally at the shoulders if it slips back. Hope that helps. The longer straps were for attaching another bag.

The kit also includes a belt. As I understand it, that 2nd strap attaches to the belt to distribute weight to the hips, like any other load-bearing kit. I would try any ALICE/G.I style belt.

Yes the straps for the belt. I got one for my bag. And and other addtitional bag was also issued, a breadbag which could be attached front or back to the belt. Altogether the 2 bags had about a hundred liter gauge.
